what the difference between getting rid of the ego and resisting emotions?
-
Yes one can become equally good at the career you chose but if you want to be so good they can't ignore you the best chance is to stick with something you are already good at because it will take longer if you divide your attention to many things as i said before you can still switch career if you want to but it might take some time to get as good as your other career and longer to be so good they can't ignore you what i mean by you can get equally good at any career is not that you can become an expert in as many fields as you want but in what ever field you chose you should still be able to become an expert in many fields but it's probably limited due to how long it takes thats right about more or less 5 years but there are some other advantages with staying longer with one career there might be a better chance to have a bigger impact but it is also important it is with something you are really interested in(if you are not interested in it it might be better to do something else you are interested in and get really good at that) i recomend reading the book if you need more clarification there is probably some good information in the life purpose course too but I haven't taken it my self yet so i am not sure what content it has but i guess it's really good like leos other content

There is a difference between limits with the mind and limits with the body I haven't taken the life purpose course i just mentioned the things i have been learning on my own releated to learning and expertise the only place where there is a difference in learning really seems to be with the body not with the mind for example in basketball i have heard being tall matters and it's not something you just can fix like that (if you even have self control over it) thats the only place i have found limits plays a role it also seems un fair to compeare someone with legs with someone who doesn't (or vice versa) in a sport that require legs the body should be the only place where there is a limited in learning and the author of peak seems to agree with this(in fact thats why I mentioned and think it my self) And the reason why i think that about iq is because none of the books seems to support it in terms of what matters for expertise plus there is a whole book about intense focus called deep work that also argues that focus is the new iq and that focus is really a skill(read the book for more details) stephen hawking is probably one of the best in hes field and he can't even move most of hes body i think thats a good example that the body doesn't set limits for what the mind can do but it does set limits for whats the body can do btw if you already are in a field thats about whats you are good at i recommend to go with it but for other reasons which is mostly based on so good they can't ignore you(a book thats about the idea thats it first when you become really really good is that where you will have passion and the best chance is to go with something you already are good at because if you divide your attention to many things you minimize the time you have to get so good they can't ignore you in one field or the field that matters to you)

I think it make sense that if everyone used the same learning method, time and learned under the same circumstances(for example free of distractions) the chance of getting the same results would be really high(also that they are at the same level in the field it would be unfair to take a completely new person in the field against an expert) i agree that somebody who have had more effective experience in the field would probably do better than someone who hasn't but I don't think that limits the other person to have the same results if the person use similar methods
-
I don't mean to be rude but thats why i said "i don't think anyone have an unique gift it's just that they "started earlier" and might have used better "learning methods" than some others at least that what i understand from books on deliberate pratice and cognitive science on learning" I don't think you need to be special in any way to be able to do something it really comes down to how you do it none of the books mentioned seems to support the idea that you need a special gift in order to learn something(except adaptability which seems like something everyone have) The books doesn't seem to mention the idea of iq should play a role either I recommend reading the books for more details or interviews with the authors
-
I don't think anyone have an unique gift it's just that they started earlier and might have used better learning methods than some others at least that what i understand from books on deliberate pratice and cognitive science on learning Peak: Secrets from the New Science of Expertise The Talent Code: Greatness Isn't Born. It's Grown. Here's How. Talent is Overrated: What Really Separates World-Class Performers from Everybody Else these books should talk about the idea the real gift we have is adaptability acording to peak so it make sense that anyone can get equal amount out of any career but it also mean they at least have to do the same amount of actions as the other person (or equal effective actions)

hi does anybody know about any interesting *superpowers* in personal development? i don't mean superpowers like superman or the flash but something that brings great value(and advantage in that area) to your life similar to for example deep work (some said deep work is like a super power in our increasingly competitive twenty-first century economy) or balancing theory vs pratice(leo said it was like a super power in the video) i am not mentioning them just because they said it was a superpower but it really make sense why they could be one

@Joel3102 deep work and delieberate pratice deep work can help you 10x increase(by increasing your focus you also increase how much you can get done in less time) your focus than what it is now(if you have low intensity focus) if used probably and deliberate pratice is the key to become good at skills but its not some magic piles or quick fix(which it might sound like) but its hard work by using these tools you can get more done than somebody who doesn't use them or use them as much and it might seem like you increase your inteligense (cal newport also argues that deep work is the new iq) these tools are also what the research on expertise shows thats that what experts use thanks for all the replies

highly recommend reading deep work by cal newport

You would probably also be burnout very fast it might be better to put a lot of effort in a few hours instead of a small effort over the whole day @Shiva you can actually pratice the piano without sitting in front of it some research shows that people who used their mind to re create what they needed to pratice would get similar results as those who used regular pratice https://youtu.be/f2O6mQkFiiw -

You can still become good without spending 10000 hours but 10000 hours alone isn't all what is required it's more important how they are spend by doing deliberate pratice but i am not sure if that is the same for consciousness it's not my own opinion but something but from anderson erickson who came up with the deliberate pratice if you do it 4 or 5 hours a day 5-6 days a week you should be able to do 10000 hours in about 10 years -
hi i am really sorry you feel that way i hope everything turns out ok the best thing i recommend is to either get professional help or a really good personal coach (leo is really awesome and tripp adivce for dating https://www.youtube.com/user/TrippAdvice he goes into details what really work not some pickup lines) some of the other things i have found use full is if there is something you want to achieve stick with what works and and don't stick with what don't work if something doesn't work ask if its because you don't do what it says or if you do what it says and it still doesn't work(if its the last one its a possibility that that's the reason it doesn't work and it's not because of you then it would be best to find a new approach) something else is literally to go all in give your 100% attention to what you want to accomplish and take full responsibility and find hope(not hope from the outside but from the inside) figure out all the distractions or time wasters that have nothing to do with your goal an stop doing them in the period you try to accomplish your goal (imagine you do nothing the entire day except using all your willpower(but still recover probably) on trying to achieve your goal (but of course still get enough sleep and food and be with your family but see if you can minimize everything else you normally do in your free time try to achieve one single thing at a time but start with the most important one some research shows we are really bad at multitasking) something else that is useful is when you have found your goal find systems that can help achieve your goal(or actions you can do to achieve it) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFrR0cGWnac&t=176s (The Art of Solving Problems Permanently) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijSng_X9soc&t=517s (Fake Growth vs Real Growth - What If You're Just Tricking Yourself?) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l96TZeZGlDg&t=861s (How To Deal With Strong Negative Emotions) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XulpS3cAkOM&t=145s (How You Lie - All Your Dirty, Sneaky Lies & Manipulations Exposed!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WSlkzz2_Bk (What Is Happiness? - An Extremely Advanced Definition Of Happiness) http://www.4dxbook.com/blog/category/the-4dx-book/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heNMGlDN8Sk (on giving it your all) http://calnewport.com/ (everything on how to ace career and have lazier sharp focus aka deep work) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNia6dzeE-4 (Hard Times = Growth) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufNOWvcfrE4 (how to love your self right now) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fqn2bDRKDJk&t=60s (Why Is It A Great Time To Be A Guy?) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rey8B-yu5Y (How To Stop Being A Victim - The #1 Reason You Are Stuck In Life) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIeQ2a8WmTc (How To Stop Being A Victim - Part 2 - What All Victims Fail To Understand) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfF7EpHXyDY (Responsibility vs Blame - Why You Are 100% Responsible For Everything) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3J3n7p0PNg (How To Stop Playing The Victim And Start Changing Your Life) the road less travlled scott m peck radical honesty by Brad Blanton i hope everything turns out ok good luck

i don't really think it matters that much as success (deepening on the field) require different abilities i wouldn't count the possibility out that there is someone feminine out there who is successful but its a good question
-
@Azote i agree that going with your gut is probably the best idea but i am not sure you could call the ideas in so good they can't ignore you laws the same way with science the ideas in the book don't say you can have one life purpose rather that that is the best chance to become passion about what you do is to have one life purpose as it give a better chance to become so good they can't ignore you(you will probably understand it better if you read the book )
-
@Azote probably true but might be irrelevant as I am not talking about me and even if elon musk is busy he is still able to make successes i might have misunderstood now that i reread it sorry for the trouble
-
i would say it is possible but if you are looking for something really valuable the chance might be better to stick with one and really focus on it(from the perspective of so good they can't ignore you by cal newport)

I don't mean to be rude by how usefull is the first letters? The book list doesn't cost that much if you don't have any money you could mention it to others maybe you are lucky to get it as a Christmas gift(or birthday gift)
-
I would say as soon as possible(or as soon as your are aware of personal development) if you are very busy right now maybe you could have different periods where you do personal development or if possible you could maximize your time to personal development by chancing where you spend your time on by controling what you have control over (For example you might not be able to control how much you study but you should be able to control what you do in your free time)
-
i have heard in some videos that leo did a series of projects in personal development (i am paraphrasing) would be awesome if he made a video on this the reason why i think it can help you to ace personal development is because some research shows that we aren't effective at multitasking but to get good results is by single-tasking(even quicker if you work intensely on it while single-tasking) and this is why I think a project is useful because it helps prepare the things you need to know in order to be successful(and also what you should spend time on in the period working on it and for how long) at what you chose to improve and it also improves the chance at getting the results you want instead of working a little on it here and there kind regards

The richest person in the world is still a man (however it shouldn't matter what gender is the "richest") and there have been a lot of successfull people throughout history who was a man that made a lot of money one example is franz liszt who actually are known as the most skilled pianist to ever lived and he made a lot of money from hes music(and thats not from playing simple chord progressions) and almost everywhere he went the ladies wanted him (some even call him the first rock star and he is the reason the piano is in the position it is on the stage today and that just the tip of the ice berg of hes accomplishment) i am sorry but i think you are making it harder than it needs to be i am sure if you look hard enough if there is a bad thing about dating in one gender you should be able to find one equally as unfair for the other gender i would actually even say that life is equally difficult regardless of who you are however people are in diffrent places in their personal growth/development which is why some have it easier than others(maybe not equally difficult but definitely some level of difficulty) most people in general doesn't make that much money (in the millions+) it doesn't matter what gender you are
-
it might help with the suffering part but it doesn't eliminate pain forever (still really useful)
-
It's not my main goal my main goal is more to become really good at something but it would be fun to be able to earn that much money from something you like to do
-
Would be really cool if he would make a video about this (also if he could explain what it really means to eat healthy what food should you chose that's healthier than others or if there is some healthy food that look familiar but the way it's produced is unhealthy) there are some things that are obvious but i think there is some things that might be less immediate obvious
-
would be awesome if he would make a video on this in also most in any area if you want to make improvement/progress it always seems to be because it is emotionally difficult that stops one from doing it but that also stop one to make the improvement in those areas would be awesome if he made a video that could help one to do it even if its emotional difficult kind regards

you could maybe tell him where you are now with your career and ask him what a good direction is to go in or/and figure out what steps he toke in his career
