But if you start now you may still achive the 10000 hours by 50 and even 20000 hours by 60 and you still have many years afterwards it's definitely not too late to start plus you can still get very good and earn money etc. before 10000 hours john williams is 85 and is still making awesome music The average people in 40s aren't working towards mastery(or have achieved it) and even many people below or above so you are definitely not a lone and its definitely still possible to achive it If you are interested I recommend reading so good they can't ignore you and deep work by cal newport they are about what matters in career and how to get really good faster maybe also read on some book by anderson ericksson he should be the one who originally came up with the 10000 hours rule or at least was a part of the research behind it

So good they can't ignore you by cal newport it gave me a clear direction on what to do with my career
-
If you haven't already i recomend taking cal newport and scott h youngs top performer course it has very valuable information realted to career the only downside is that it isn't always open alternative there is the books by cal newport, and deliberate pratice something of the things cal newport recommends(as i understood it) is stick with as close as possible to as few things as possible (for example instead of chosing between 3 different fields go with one) and then get really good at it there is always self education a lot of free online places to learn from hope you can use it

Something that may be usefull is leos video on how to deal with strong negative emotions and cal newports blog on digital minimalism he talks about that being on the internet can create anexity if you aren't careful about how you use it alternative here is a video where he talks about it -
I don't see why not the only downside may be that you may waste some time if you aren't interested in it By the way i recomend reading so good they can't ignore you if you want information on life purpose it's based on evidence from people who love what they do and bring value to the world

@The black sheep i am sorry but its not the only way the research on concentration (or deep work) says that its a skill that must be trained if you aren't good at it it's likely because you haven't trained your concentration that much or that you may have too many distractions going on which create attention residue (which make your concentration weaker everytime you switch your attention to a new task especially if its done quickly) i have tryed meditating in the past but it doesn't help as much as deep work in terms of improving concentration

Deep work, deliberate pratice 100% immersion(for language) pratice testing, explain like i am five, active recall, rapid learner by scott h young how to become a straigt a student cal newport, learning how to learn online course, ultra learning scott h young, spaced repetition, over learning, depth of processing, attention residue, a mind for numbers, the feynman technique authors: scott h young, anderson erickson, daniel coyle, cal newport, babara okley(may have spelled the names wrong) i recomend starting with deep work as it will help to learn about the other techniques faster but there is no quick fix for learning only how you do it more effectively (you can't escape that hard work but it doesn't still mean it can be rewarding or that you still can get what you are looking for)

Read deep work it's all about how to improve your ability to concentrate

what are the benefits of fully feeling emotions 24/7 besides a healthy mind? what are the consequences of not doing it?
-
Happy new year whats your opinion on intensity (or going to the edge of your comfortzone) in terms of making progress in any area? for example in deliberate pratice you need to go at the edge of your comfortzone to improve your skills in deep work you have to concentrate at the egde of your ability to concentrate to get the best results(without distractions for a longer period of time) in work out you have to have some sort of intensity if its too easy for your body you may not make as much progress as if you where doing it more intense to ace life one have to do something emotional difficult (or at the egde of ones emotional comfortzone) does intensity play a bigger role than a less experience in personal development would think in terms of progress in any area?
-
I am not sure if it's original or not but: if you don't take responsibility for your problem it will remain a problem so far i think it make sense(it may or may not be a quote from scott m peck) can be an usefull reminder sometimes
-
@Omni no one said it would be 100% guarantee but it give them a chance to open up to the idea for themselves
-
What i have heard from someone else was to give them the facts/evidence etc. and then let them make up their own mind from there
-
I alwys thought that to reach our goals we must work on our weaknesses because thats most likely what hold us back not strength if we had strength to reach that goal we wouldn't be hold back so it to me it make sense that its a weakness we must work on(isn't that whats personal development is afterall and how we become stronger? To grow?)

Taking action on finding your authentic personality
-
Something that may be useful is to be radical honest (maybe in this situation most important to be honest with your self) something i have tryed before was to really give as much attention as possible to the thoughts that i had and feel what felt authentic and what didn't If you want the best results I recommend doing it full time of course with breaks (with some theory and pratice)

Is human suffering a requirement for great art? I don't think so at all i have composed music for at least four years and played the piano for about 10 years and i have never used suffering as something that improved my skill the research on expertise doesn't say anything about suffering rather what matters in improvement is deliberate pratice(and deep work, rarer and valuable skills) the more you do it the better you will be and thats what really improve your skill you could use suffering in your art but I don't think you need that to make great art I don't think john williams, alan sivilstri needed it to make their great works or other artists something i have noticed with top performers is that a lot of them if not all seems to have had a huge amount of education(or learning) which is very likely to play a role in what made them great and not suffering but don't let this stop you if you want to have a career you can still be pretty good and even better with more time of the right effort we all have to start somewhere
-
i know i shouldn't say both but i would because that increases the chance of getting really good results how i see it is almost similar to two side of a coin they both have 50% of the same value which would be the *end result* if the other is lower it doesn't add up to the whole value of the *coin* but i am not an expert(they may be a better way researched by others) on this just saying this from personal experience

it looks like an Airship -
deep work(high-intensity focus on a cognitive demanding task with zero distractions) it helps to learn things a lot quicker than it usually takes, learning how to learn effectively(things like active recall etc.) execution productivity with routines and rituals and as a habit (i think it helps increase the chance of getting the same high quality in productivity every day) fully feel every emotion 24/7 with zero resistance, being able to delay gratification or face the obstacle even if its hard until you have what you had in mind at least that's some of them

really awesome video in case if you haven't watched it
-
*I’m curious as to what causes depression* something i have noticed from personal experience is that it comes from the lack of doing something emotional difficult but i am no expert so it might not be correct but i hope you can use it
-
one reason because they aren't directly about acing life(and not much about going to the edge of our comfort zone) but mostly about how to get started for example some of the techniques to ace life would be the other video leo have where he talks about doing something emotional difficult(at least in my opinion)
-
I think this would be really interesting i am aware that leo have a video called one simple rule to ace life(or something similar) where he talks about a specific technique but i think it would be awesome with a larger list of techniques to ace personal development (i don't mean any quick fixes)

Hi i apologize if this is off topic but whats wrong with the scientific way of understanding the universe?(or just how scientists understand the universe) And materialism? And why is the alternative approach supposed to be better? I don't mean to start an argument just trying to get a clearification as i have seen serval people say that the people who use the scientific method think they understand the universe but they really don't or something similar (i am paraphrasing) Please instead of just saying it is wrong say why because just saying it is wrong doesn't give any clearification about why if possible please post evidence not just opinions I don't mean this in a negative way and i am sorry if it's understood in that way it's just that it helps with clearification i have still gotten some very useful replys
