@Monkey-man not saying it is but the research says that this is the path you have to take if you want a life purpose (getting good at your craft) sorry but cal newport isn't that a big fan of the look inside method either aren't you saying yourself that that is the goal? (To be happy and work hard? For example by sacrificing)
-
@Monkey-man not what science recommends if you do that you will end up less happy than those who work hard at their craft so no thanks sorry but there isn't any research that back up that you will be happy if you look inside for your passion you have to earn it. If you just look inside and do that how much satisfaction will that produce compared to someone who work hard at their craft? The research also says that the better you are the more likely you will feel better about what you do
-
Sorry but it doesn't seem to be what the research says if you read peak performance by anders erickson and so good they can't ignore you by cal newport they don't say we shouldn't have a life purpose rather that we aren't born with it and have to earn it (same thing with talent/skills) unfortunately people who thought they would have passion first before earning it would end up less happy than others who worked to improve their skills(paraphrasing cal newport) finding your calling won't solve lifes problems if you look at people like elon musk even if he did what he loved he was still divorced with hes wife

Maybe sometimes but you may not always like what everyone else will find valuable and if you find something everyone else likes you would need some way to comfirm other people do like it so it isn't just a belief if you don't have anything else than the appreciation for it. you probably should have the appreciation for it but I don't think it's something that's will be the key to what you will produce that probably more likely rarer and valuable skills(if you read so good they can't ignore by cal newport you will know why)
-
Probably not that important it seems mostly like something the keep being motivated or an emotional thing which is 100% ok but I don't think it's the key to make something remarkable or rarer and valuable you could probably go with out it and still be able to make something that makes a difference if you have the knowledge to. but it is also more important than just appreciate creating something new also important to act on it

Isn't it common knowlegde? I see people talk about this everywhere

I think it can be a big trap to be convinced something that isn't true is actually true for example there is people who in the old days that believed gravity wasn't what we know it is today, for example, some people believed that if you dropped two things at the same time no matter where and people would get into trouble if they thought otherwise they wouldn't hit the ground at the same speed even if they had diffren't weighs but if you put them in a vacuum it turns out they actually do hit the ground(for example if its a feather and a heavy ball) at the same time some people have done that experiment both on earth and on the moon and it seems to be true both places if done in a vacume (you can probably find a video that explaines it better than I can) how would you figure out something is true vs it just its something you want to be true? I think one of the dangers of believing something is true when its actually not is psychological consciences, for example, in the example above if you disagreed with them you could have gotten into trouble but if both knew what was actually true and not just what they wanted to be true it could have been avoided its likely it also could set you down the wrong path an extreme example would be if you believed you could fly because you thought it was true and actually tried to do it the consequences could be bad(tried to fly like superman) if i remember correctly it was also one of the four things scott m peck thought was important

isn't that a knowledge system of its own? by that logic aren't you fooling your self either way? there may be limitations to knowledge but its the reason we are able to type here in the first place, sending rockets to space improving on previous technology or watch leos video on youtube etc
-
i recommend checking out Scott h young(hes m.i.t challenge, rapid learner and ultra learning) he have tried something similar but i recommend you to be aware of what role a degree plays and then decide afterwards (in case you want to replace it with school)

surprised no one said *no one*

Maybe find the core of the problem and then bite the bullet i have found if there is something i wanted to do and was difficult that was the solution that often came (if you don't know the cause it may help to think about when it started) it may be difficult but it seems to solve the problem for good

I think this could be a cool video it may be important to know about the science of expertise if you want to be world class at what you do there is also some benefits to getting world class like, passion/satisfaction, impact etc(which cal newport talks a bit about) some of the things I have found my self so far is expertise: deliberate practice about stretching your skills at the edge of your comfort zone while getting feedback deep work about optimizing the intensity of your concentration the idea is the more intense your concentration is the more you are able to get done in less time and at a higher quality (an example cal newport who is the author of the concept/book talks about a person called Brian who was able to produce in 3 weeks what normally would take him a whole year by doing deep work and adding routines and rituals) learning on how to learn: ultra learning(Ultralearning is typified by tactics that dive straight into the hardest and most difficult part. Naturally, these tactics are mentally demanding and often uncomfortable, so many people who are choosing how to learn prefer a more casual approach.) (quoted from Scott h young on how is ultra learning different) it is hard but it can produce very good results in a shorter period of time and be rewarding total immersion(for language learning), active recall(for memory) Feynman technique, explain like i am 5 (similar ideas but really useful to improve your learning and to pinpoint the things you don't understand), practice testing,(one of the benefits of this is that you get feedback on your learning if you got the right answer or wrong answer which can be usefull so you can improve and it can help you eventually getting the right answer) building a learning project(can be useful so you know exactly what to do and can just focus on what you need to learn), spaced repetition (can help improving your memory and make it stick for a longer period of time), overlearning(can help making skills automatic so you can do them instantly as they were second nature) deconstruct skills(if i understood it correctly it's about, for example, to find a skill and then taking that skill into smaller parts and then focus on each of these smaller parts for example if you would draw faces instead of drawing the whole face every time maybe only focus on the eyes or the mouth) some of the not so effective learning techniques where unfortenly, things like highlighting(some says it could be effective but its a bit narrow for example highlighting everything isn't that effective but highlighting important words could be however you may not learn that much from it as if you where trying to understand it) and rereading compared to other learning techniques rereading can produce the fluency illusion which is the illusion of thinking you understand something but you are really recognizing the information which mean you don't really understand it(Feynman technique can be good to use to avoid this) http://bigthink.com/neurobonkers/assessing-the-evidence-for-the-one-thing-you-never-get-taught-in-school-how-to-learn some other things are, attention residue, focus mode vs diffuse mode, single tasking instead of multi-tasking, plan your recovery to avoid burnout, plan where when and for how long you will be working, always try to get the insigt/aha moment etc at least that is some of the things i have found out so far sorry for the long post if there is going to be a video about it i hope it can be usefull would be an interesting video

Take full responsibility even the emotional challenging part of your life - leo paraphrasing a little (from hes video on responsibility)
-
I think this would be an awesome video on as if you don't do any emotional difficult things or take responsibility for them it can have some consequences(or try to aviod them), for example, it can create limits of what you feel like you can do which can be a problem if there is things you really want but feel like you can't because there is something emotional difficult standing in the way it can also be difficult to balance or taking action on doing something emotional difficult so it doesn't take all your energy away from you would be really interesting (i am aware of hes video on one simple rule for acing life which is really awesome but I feel like it doesn't go much into the why and how but mostly that you should do it)
-
the road less traveled by scott m peck is really awesome
-
sorry but how is this making limits on yourself and reality? we aren't adding our self to those categories(i don't mean to imply that there is anything wrong with doing so) only discussing them in case you just where adding to the discussing and not talking about us sorry for the misunderstanding
-
what do you mean by perspective? what about females, males, shemales(the opposite of a shemale which i don't know the name of unfortenly)
-
@MisterMan why such a long post? Sorry but it would be helpful if its was shorter. sorry but I didn't just assume. A reason why i wrote it is for example with the life purpose course vs cal newports research (cal newports is based on evidence) they both seem in a way to come up with different conclusions leos course seems more about connecting with your strengths or something similar where cal newport seems more about what can i do to become better at what i do or how can i produce more value what he calls the craftman mindset and leos course seems more similar to the passion mind set that(you just have to find your passion and then you will be happy) cal newport argues you will end up less happy with the passion mind set than with the craft man approach (most of the time) i still think there is a lot of valuable information in the life purpose course(that also seem similar to the craft man mindset) and leo has a lot of other valuable information but I didn't just assume i had done some research where they seemed to come up with different conclusions and thats why i wrote it and I didn't actually say that i think he is manipulating us rather that he seems less open minded that it could be wrong (this does not mean he have to be right everytime about everything just as what i wrote it means that he could be more open minded that it could be wrong) and I didn't think it needed the extra advertisement as i still think the information would be valuable just on its own i also didn't say/write and I do not think some of the things he does is not impressive at all like the 3 things you said yourself (meaning that i do think they are impressive) not really sure how you came to the conclusing that i am "shi***" on what he does as i mention a lot of times that i think he still have a lot of valuable information which means i still supports what he does by saying "Maybe considering all of the factors behind the nature or knowing, business, growth, teaching and learning and others related things may help illuminate this judgement/ projection to what it really is. A misunderstanding." doesn't that implies that all information we know is a misunderstanding(including both cal newport and leos work)

BjarkeT replied to sarapr's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
Nope that wasn't what i said at all i said that everything that happen in the mind (this does not include things outside the mind like other people living in the otherside of the world but things like thought, imagination etc does) happens in the mind compeard to it happening in other places -
BjarkeT replied to sarapr's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
What do you mean? Everything I observe (even when i am not basing it on any perspective except pure observation or actually try to convince my self otherwise it still hapens in the mind when i leave it to observation) everything thats happening in the mind does happen in the mind(imagination, thinking etc) not anywhere else belief also happens in the mind -
BjarkeT replied to sarapr's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
Sorry but when I observe where thoughts come from I always feel like they are right behind the area behind my eyes inside my head not my mouth or anywhere else no matter what happens it's always from around that area -
For me i have found it helps to deliberate find a good/possitive reason to do it
-
Sometimes it can help to put pressure on your self to really focusing on just one thing for example by creating a deadline that's drastically shorter than your usual deadline other wise i have found it usefull to just keep pratice being focused without distractions
-
The only complain i would have would be that sometimes the information is presented in a way that it seems to be the solution that this is what you should do or doesn't present it in a way where he show open minded that it could be "wrong" (or that there may be better alternatives) i don't see why he wouldn't have to show that it may be wrong because he's content are free either way and either way the information is still valuable if it's valuable without the extra "advertising" the problem with this is that if he believes it is the "solution" others may think as well and it could be a problem in case it actually isn't but otherwise i really like hes content and think it's really valuable

@Max_V but why is that a bad thing? Doesn't that help you get feedback (and be able to tell what matters) in your work and in return make you a better creator and become better at what you do? (Which is necessary to have passion) doesn't being competitive actually help one being a better creator? Doesn't also being good at what you do make you more valuable? isn't composing music being a creator? (Which in my opinion is a competitive field because you have to be good for people to listen to what you compose and the better you are the more likely it is you will have better rewards)
