  1. @Otogi actually they do mean that there is no such thing as talent one of them is anderson erickson and he have been researching this for over 20 years and haven't found anything of people being born with talent which is why he means it when he says it or at least have not yet found it. The only thing he found was related to how tall someone was for example which can play a role in sports. Noticed that i am not saying this because its my opinion rather i am mentioning what they found which is based on a lot of research. At least to the research on deliberate practice which have been studying this they haven't found any talent. it all comes to how you pratice.
  2. Well if you read on deliberate pratice it agrees with this
  3. 1. be so good they can't ignore you/mastery 2. face fears directly 3. being as productive as possible on something meaningful 4. being able to get enough rest so i don't get burnt out 5. having good social experiences or a good social life 6. freedom 7.having a meaningful impact on the world from something authentic 8. having control over what i do 9. increase in awareness 10. optimize hope these count as values first time i am doing this exercise. Still, have more than this but probably what would be on a top ten list
  4. the best way to learn I would say would be to focus with out distraction on it the way cal newport explains in deep work with really high intensity of focus and then after you have learned it try to explain the concept as if you where teaching it to someone else(the feynman technique) this help to test out how much you actually understand of it and it improves your learning and it should also improve your memory of it as well. To commit it to memory I would recommend doing something called active recall where you try to recall the information without looking at a reference this help aviod the illusion of thinking you understand it but don't. So 1 focus with great intensity 2: the feynman technique 3: active recall(spaced repetition also helps). related to what order I would recommend watching something that is specifically related to something you are already trying to do in personal development. For example, if it has to do with emotions I would look at videos related to that. (if this was the case i would recommend watching leos video on how to deal with strong negative emotions first) But i recommend not spending to much time on theory i recommend watching leos video on balance theory vs pratice. And when taking action on it really do it, don't look for distractions or wessel your way out of it i know its really hard to do but i think this is the only way to really get the results you are looking for. Really face the situation directly without letting fear control you. You control the fear (of course without resisting the emotion). A strong why helps to get through it. Its also important to take responsibility.
  5. I recommend to take the top performer course by cal newport and scott h young ones its open it's will likely give you a better insight on how to achieve your goal and what really matters and how to get good at it. Because it help you to get more acurate insight from the people in your field. And it based from the research on deliberate pratice, the craftman mindset, and some scientific method that help you to figure out what matters.
  6. awesome but be careful not to end up spending to much time on mental masturbation also take action as this is where the growth comes from
  7. Agree would be really nice he seems to rarely do video suggestions and continue older videos (there is nothing wrong with it just mentioning it)
  8. @Ether ok sorry for the misunderstanding
  9. I don't know why you should sleep less I personally recommend to sleep as much as possible (at least 8 hours) except if Ether where being sarcastic? anyways what I have found useful is to just sit in isolation with no distractions and do nothing except taking slowly deep breaths for maybe about 15 minuts and don't think about anything at all except trying to relax the body I am usually completely relaxed with no stress after doing this you could pick anytime you want but I recommend at least enough so that you feel relaxed afterwards to make it easier to do this i recommend making it a habit so over time you use less willpower to do it one of the reasons we end up not relaxed may be because of the lack of breaks I think this is a really good video on the topic
  10. because he has no ego the same way we have one?
  11. depends on what the barriers are but just realize that you have to do it in order to achieve it. Its pretty obvious but just sort of doing it here and there or keep waiting for a magic solution is likely not going to happen if you really want to achieve it then take action and do it. Don't just let it stay in your mind. Accept the consequences (of course with responsibility) i recommend watching leos vdeo on balance theory vs pratice and then use theory (and then pratice) to overcome the barriers if its because a lack of knowledge you aren't able to do it. It helps to be specific about learning theory to the situation you are in
  12. @abrakamowse i have heard from people again and again that jesus was both god and god's son at the same time especially from darkmatter2525 (YouTube channel)
  13. Don't take my word for it as i am no professional but maybe it could be some result from resisting emotions? i recommend checking this video out Hope it turns out ok
  14. be so good i can't be ignored either at composing or performing music
  15. more or less about personal development but i think its related to career or life purpose: whiplash ip man maybe? transcendence westworld if tv series count (artificial intelligence) agent of shield (they have lmd which is artificial intelligence in one of their seasons) and they are really good to show that the characters are dealing with problems like real humans which is kinda rarer to see in other tv shows spartacus tv series? the trueman show
  16. I think this would be a really awesome video this kind of practice is mostly used related to a career but it would be awesome to use in for personal development I have used purposeful practice before in my own life on hobbies and it produces a lot better and faster results than just blindly practice which I think is just practice without much awareness of what you are trying to accomplish or how you practice I think purposeful practice is the same as deliberate practice but without a mentor, it's self-directed if I remember right here is a pretty good video on it for more details. I imagine you could get a lot better and faster result in your personal life by using these type of practice for example in dating, social skills, conscious work etc. At least that what the research shows related to career.
  17. Scott h young and cal newport but they are more focused on the area of career still really awesome if that's what you are looking for
  18. does anyone know any food that could taste as good as junk food? one of the reasons to stop eating unhealthy food permanently for me sometimes is because the healthy food doesn't always taste as good as unhealthy food it could be helpful to make the switch thanks in advance
  19. Fine -.- i still don't see any evidence that support iq is even real or that it's not just a lack of doing it correctly and that's just in gernal and it seems pretty useless if you just can chose effective techniques like deep work, deliberate pratice etc on what ever you want and get good results anyway even if your iq is very low acording to this it does seem possible to increase or chance your "iq" points by more than 2 or so https://www.livescience.com/36143-iq-change-time.html
  20. @Staples not really i am still talking about iq whether you will accept that or not i even tried to explain how its related to iq but looks like you skipped that "what i am trying to say is that It definitely seems a possibility(keyword) from the research of expertise that i mention that we can increase our iq if iq even is a real thing" "if it's possible to recall random numbers up to 82 after pratice I don't see why you wouldn't be able to pratice for random iq tests" and some other things as well if you just skip the things i say or skim what i write then obviously you are missing out on what i am trying to say and yes i know that age is a factor thats literally why i mention it and i said i think it's a pretty shallow way to find out how intelligent someone is and before you say this has nothing to do with intelligence then please elaborate on the wiki pedia definition of iq: if we are talking about iq and not intelligence how come intelligence be a part of iqs name: Intelligence quotient and on wikipedia: "An intelligence quotient (IQ) is a total score derived from several standardized tests designed to assess human intelligence." maybe you didn't say it was fixed but there is a lot of people that think it is
  21. @Staples "if it's possible to recall random numbers up to 82 after pratice I don't see why you wouldn't be able to pratice for random iq tests " and "even by what you mention if it's only two points or something like that it still shows that it's possible to increase some of your iq points if it wasn't possible it wouldn't be possible to increase it at all really" what i said further down obviously its not going to seem like i am talking about it if you just skip everything i say that is related to it what i am trying to say is that It definitely seems a possibility from the research of expertise that i mention that we can increase our iq if iq even is a real thing also when people say he must have a high iq when someone have done something really impressive like einsteins e=mc2 for example it turns out that it was just a matter of doing deep work to produce that kind of work which is a skill you can improve and everyone can be good at so to me at least that seems like iq is not important or likely not to be a real thing and age also seems to be a really shallow thing to determine how intelligent someone is For example there is prodigys who have done greater things than adult and the opposite when compared to average people like a young mozart or an older stephen hawking both have done great things and their age doesn't seem to play a role really rather it was how they did what they did and the thing is when average people do the things like deep work and deliberate pratice their abilitys to do what they do becomes better how does this relate to the topic? To me at least as i said above it doesn't seem like iq is actually important or real and I explained why i think that what evidence is there actually that support that iq is real or fixed? And its not just a lack of doing it "correctly" so to speak and how can we be sure it isn't just a ego defense mechanism
  22. @Staples I literally said this afterwards: it may not be the iq in terms of scoring for testes but it's the type of work that produces things like e=mc2 if you just can use these techniques like deep work and deliberate pratice that every person can do I don't really see why iq matters at all if you just can pick any field and then use these techniques to get good at it. Richard feynman is also known to have a low iq compared to einstein for example but accomplish great things because it seems he was in a state of deep work (cal newport gives and example of richard feynman in the book how much did you actually read of what i wrote
