  1. When I am bored I try to just be bored and let the feeling be there. Because always getting novel stimuli can ruin your concentration and get you anxiety. I think it may just be a matter of getting the mind used to boredom again so that is what I try. Cal Newport have done some interesting research on boredom.
  2. @Kindle Not really sure what you mean when you talk about materiallstic attainment and I personally have nothing to do with enlightenment but the goal is supposed to help motivation as In my opinion, it helps motivation in the long run instead of short term only when working on something you really want to achieve. Any goal you really want to achieve should be ok keyword here is "really want to achive" anything that qualify that for this is ok for a goal in this case in my opinion. There is also scientific research on this that says goals make use happier or something a long those lines. At least having a goal I really wanted to achieve have helped me staying motivated for the long run.
  3. I think it helps to have a goal you really want and want to work toward to. Alternative I think its important to take 100% responsibility and take action.
  4. I would say so. It has given me the opportunity to see things from a different perspective and effective tools to use.
  5. @now is forever I am not speaking for everyone just my self however cal newport does show that how I explained it seems to be the most cases if you want more information I recommend looking at cal newports books as my knowledge on this is a bit limited he also have more information on how/why some people are motivated for the long run. but how do you know they didn't have inspiration? What do you mean when you say waste?
  6. deliberate practice, deep work, ultra learning.
  7. if there is a goal you really want to achieve but can't work on your personal development so it no longer becomes and obstacle. Thats the mindset i try to have. You should try to achieve as many as you like but probably best with one at a time.
  8. @dude what do you mean with no underlying vision? Isn't that where ones interest in a topic comes in and things like creativity, mastery, impact? I want to achieve world class but sorry I don't feel as much pain or fear as you make it sound like. It's not brute force. its going after something you already find interesting which can time to time be very enjoyable after practice. And I have already practice for about 10+ years at piano. Its not fear and pain all the time. It's actually very rarer. Even now I am practice a piece by chopin and I don't feel any fear or pain. The only thing I feel is the strain from practice outside my comfort zone but its rewarding. I also composed a 10-minute long piece for piano and didn't feel any pain or fear but was in flow pretty much the whole process and it was very enjoyable for the most part. I just recently started practice digital art and its the same thing there. No pain or fear but just the strain from practice and time to time very enjoyable after practice. it's not brute force from beginning to end there is rewards here and there towards the goal. cal newport doesn't describe it as pain and fear either. he should talk about it somewhere in the video.
  9. @denydritz but the craftman mindset isn't about taking action. Its about how you take action. In this case the key is getting really good at what you do.(so good you can't be ignored) Cal newport says that its not much important what it is you do rather its about things related to the lifestyle like creativity, impact, mastery. sorry but Cal newport says that there is no such thing as finding your passion first and then you will be happy. Its a side effect of getting really really good at something you find interesting. He also asks that the passion mindset is something that require evidence to support it for such a claim but yet there isn't much evidence to support it however there is a lot of evidence that support the craftman mindset.
  10. @DMM710 can't speak about enlightenment since i am not here for it at all. I am here for personal growth.
  11. @DMM710 I would prefer something like the scientific method not direct experience at all or at least as little as possible sorry.
  12. That direct experience is how you figure out the truth. I Don't think this is a good technique at all for finding the truth as this is also why some people believe the earth is flat. You can have two different people experience the same thing but that doesn't mean they get the same outcome out of it.
  13. @now is forever Sorry but I don't think it works that way. The passion mindset is the opposite of craftman mindset and unfortunately only negative outcomes have been shown from the research on it like anxiety for example and people won't care if you have found your passion if you don't have something valuable to show for it. Just pick something interesting and then get really good. Getting good is also where you get passion from as a side effect. Not before. Passion is more than just motivation. It is also a sense of satisfaction and fulfilment which is more complicated to get than just having intrinsic motivation. at least that is what I have read from cal newport who have done research based on evidence.
  14. Brain games don't really work so I have heard. One of the best ways is deliberate practice with deep work because you consciously stretch where you are comfortable and improve the skills you are trying to become better at. Deep work is about optimizing your intensity of concentration which give you an advantage at doing deliberate practice and helps you do it at a higher quality and faster speed.
  15. maybe its something to do with your browser or computer? it seems to work for me on google chrome. can you view videos from other persons on different video websites?
  16. It would be nice with a video on this. I think too many people believe in this fixed mindset which the only thing it really does is limit people potential which means it limits people growth which also make it toxic. IQ wasn't originally used for what it is used for today if I remember right or at least not for everyone. And the research on expertise doesn't seem to have found anyone with any talent. (it all comes down to practice but you aren't born with specific abilities like music or math) you will find this if you look at the origin of IQ and looking at the research on Deliberate practice. I know there already is a video on the website about talent but I think it would be nice with an in-depth video on the youtube channel so its more likely more people will see it. Anderson Erickson who is the father of deliberate practice call the human species Homo Exercens for our ability to consciously Improve ourselves.
  17. No sugur related food because if you eat it you will have high energy for a little bit and low energy for a longer period if this happens during the exams you won't have the energy necessary. I would recommend anything that can give you good energy in a healthy way without sugar usually you can find this in healthy foods.
  18. Best thing I recommend may be to take the top performer course by scott h young. Its a course on how to find the things that matters in your career which in return can give you the rewards you want. However its not always on so alternative may be to start getting really really good on your own some things that may help is, deep work, deliberate pratice, ultra learning. Hope you can use it good luck The reason why I recommend getting really really good is because unfortunately just because we care ourselves doesn't mean others do so it doesn't mean we can make a living from what we like to do but if we get good at our craft it's more likely to be valuable to others in some way which can now make them care so to speak. To produce music i recommend learning how to read sheet music and understand music theory and finding a good daw and notation software. Daw is a digital audio workstation where you can produce and record music in the best one and cheapest I have found is one called reaper and for notation i recommend musescore. There is something called vst and sample libraris that you can use to pruduce music I recomend looking at vienna symphonic library if you need other instruments for your work. https://www.vsl.co.at/en https://musescore.org/da https://www.reaper.fm/ https://www.amazon.com/Deep-Work-Focused-Success-Distracted/dp/1455586692 https://www.amazon.com/Peak-Secrets-New-Science-Expertise-ebook/dp/B011H56MKS http://top-performer-course.com/ https://www.scotthyoung.com/blog/2016/07/28/ultralearn-diy-1/ https://www.amazon.com/Good-They-Cant-Ignore-You/dp/1455509124 https://www.scotthyoung.com/blog/2015/04/01/finish-what-you-start/
  19. Blogs still get a lot of attention it's just a matter of how valuable it is that you write about. Some blogs I follow is scott h youngs and cal newports blog. I started my own blog and when I shared what I wrote it got more attention than I expected. (8 likes as my second blog post ever) some of cal newports posts have gotten 99 replies and some of scott h youngs have gotten 100+.(Just from what i remember) Also blogging is something that can take a lot of time so don't expect to get immediate results. To really get results you need to be prolific and have something rarer and valuable to offer. I wouldn't expect to get results if you didn't continue for a long time. (you can't avoid spending time on progress in order to make progress) If i remember right it toke some years until scott h young got some traffic to hes website. https://www.scotthyoung.com/blog/2016/03/03/full-time-blogger/ Leo also have a blog that seem to be followed. Also the short attention spans of people doesn't really change just because you change to something else unfortenly. Thats not really how it works. If you change to youtube or podcast it's still there.
  20. I have a to-do list and then I first move to the next thing on the list after I have completed the task above(one task at a time) usually there is something on the list that I do deliberate practice on like digital art, piano performing, getting out of my comfort zone, My deep work ability(intense concentration on cognitive demanding task) I think it helps to have a productivity system to get things done and sometimes create a project and making productivity a habit.
  21. he said in the last video that he would probably check in on business related stuff about mid through so it is probably related to that.
  22. Fully feel the emotion(every emotions) 100% with zero resistance while being in the present moment and relaxed body 24/7. Its the best tool I have found so far to deal with emotions. Maybe just push your self to feel the negative emotions go through the discomfort. Prepare your mind to do it and take 100% responsibility.
  23. look into energy mangement. when I relax I just take a boring break where I do absolutely nothing but relax the mind and body and focus on taking deep breath. I think it helps to structure breaks so you have specific times for breaks.
  24. make something rarer(few who have that skill, or few who are that good at that skill) and valuable (so valuable that people are willing to pay for it)
