To find your life purpose you could just go with something you find interesting and then try to get really good at that. there is research in cal newports book so good they can't ignore you that study how people end up loving what they do and what they did was basically getting good at something they found interesting. the research shows that if you are looking for passion you will have to get good at something and then it comes as a side effect not before. to get good I recommend looking at deliberate practice and deep work and something called the dan plan you could start something similar like he did there is great rewards from doing it.

read more intense and without distractions. (or just without distractions) Explain the idea to see if one understand it. Have a specific time just for reading. Know for how long you are going to read. Alternative stop using a lot of time online so you have more free time to read(in case you spent a lot of time online) http://calnewport.com/blog/2014/04/08/work-accomplished-time-spent-x-intensity/

Look up Closed vs. Open Questions. Ask questions like a journalist to get more accurate information.

Procrastination & lack of responsibility edit: also victim thinking. Thinking you are a victim.
-
he says its from the book scott m peck the road less traveled
-
If I remember correctly he said in this video that he expects to be around 60 about at 44:00 he also said that it was because he wanted to set proper exspectations for how long he would live since you don't live forever.

I think this is important to be 100% committed to something if you really want to be so good they can't ignore you at something. if you look at great geniuses like albert einstein, stephen hawking, nikola tesla etc. they did what they did for their whole life. If one want to achieve similar greatness i think being 100% committed plays a role.
-
this may be a solution: http://calnewport.com/blog/2014/06/05/dont-fight-distraction-make-it-irrelevant/

I think this is may be really good to know for example if you goal are to lose fat you could for example chose to exercise to lose fat but it may actually be more effective to change what you eat instead. No all progress is the same so how can you figure out you are working on the right thing to accomplish your goal?

@Joseph Maynor I don't think life purpose work that way I am more into the idea of life purpose that cal newport talks about in so good they can't ignore you. I have found my life purpose and it still as hard as before. try to find a person who had life purpose and didn't have challenge in life. life purpose isn't easy or super productive but it is a challenge in it self. Look at the movie whiplash it is a good example of the craftman mindset cal newport talks about. i recomend that you check out cal newport book so good they can't ignore you which is based on scientific evidence on life purpose. also if you are looking for something easy and super productive you won't become any superstar because that requires practice outside your comfort zone always aka deliberate practice. what you are talking about is what seems to be somthing called being in flow or flow state which is basically producing work that you already are good at but that doesn't make you a superstar as its not much about improving your work. to become a superstar it probably take 20-40 years not 3 years and then passion comes as a side effect a long the way of getting good most likely at something rarer and valuable. (however problems in life dosn't go away from that even albert einstein had problems in life if you read hes biography or the tv series based on it so did nikola tesla, elon musk, steve jobs, franz liszt, mozart etc.) the key to deal with life problems seem to be what scott m peck talks about in the road less traveled not life purpose. They are two separate things.

I remember in one of leos video i think the one called on simple rule to ace life where he said that all we basically do is to seek comfort which make it hard to chose to do the hard things. @Joseph Maynor life purpose doesn't help it is still as hard as before. I think it comes down to making the decision to face the challenge. (feel the fear and do it anyway) @Viking you don't have to suffer to get a life purpose. just get so good they can't ignore you and passion comes as a side effect a long the way. I think a trick to help one motivated is something called loss aversion which is the idea that we are more motivated if we have something to lose so for example pick a goal and set a specific amount of money on it you could lose if you don't finish it. it should help one to get motivated to do it. https://www.blenderguru.com/podcasts/get-good-blender-fast

I am no expert on this so i might be wrong but i think this might be good to look into even if its for cancer. One of the ideas that may be relevant is the idea of genes vs habits. It may be a better idea to look for professional help on this as we are all pretty much just normal people with no education on this.

BjarkeT replied to Laymen's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
I don't think he studied math or physics but probably philosophy i think i read somewhere. He also doesn't seem to be very happy about science(or some things about it) if you read some of hes blog posts so i am not sure it would make sense that he would study those topics. -
@Viking i think it's mostly the reason I mentioned and probably the one you mentioned however I haven't heard that from cal newport so far. while those who succeed probably are aware of what's required and does what's required. http://calnewport.com/blog/2015/12/31/resolve-to-live-a-deep-life/ (actually it's training, quitting distractions and protecting your time to do deep work)
-
@Viking so far i have read that it really is just a matter of training and disconnecting/quitting distractions. It helps to focus on something wildly important as cal says. Yes those 3 things are required but the main thing is training and disconnecting distractions you can still have those 3 things but if you don't disconnect from distractions or train your ability to do it you won't perform deep work very well. not everyone is doing deep work because they may not be aware of it. It's not easy to quit distractions. It's not easy to train your ability to do deep work. It's not easy to embrace boredom (rule 2 from deep work) after being on distractions for a while. “Once your brain has become accustomed to on-demand distraction, Nass discovered, it’s hard to shake the addiction even when you want to concentrate. To put this more concretely: If every moment of potential boredom in your life—say, having to wait five minutes in line or sit alone in a restaurant until a friend arrives—is relieved with a quick glance at your smartphone, then your brain has likely been rewired to a point where, like the “mental wrecks” in Nass’s research, it’s not ready for deep work—even if you regularly schedule time to practice this concentration.” Cal newport.

@Viking what do you mean aligned? Anybody can do deep work it's just a matter of training and disconnecting from distractions. Or was it that what you meant by it?

“I’ll live the focused life, because it’s the best kind there is.” Winifred Gallagher said from cal newports book deep work. some other quotes from the book: “Who you are, what you think, feel, and do, what you love—is the sum of what you focus on.” “what we choose to focus on and what we choose to ignore—plays in defining the quality of our life.” “Human beings, it seems, are at their best when immersed deeply in something challenging. There” “The Deep Work Hypothesis: The ability to perform deep work is becoming increasingly rare at exactly the same time it is becoming increasingly valuable in our economy. As a consequence, the few who cultivate this skill, and then make it the core of their working life, will thrive.” there is a lot of benefits from doing deep work like getting passion from your work and being recognized for what you do. I recommend reading hes books they are really interesting. some examples of people who did deep work is: issac newton, albert einstein, richard feynman, charles darwin.

Would be really useful with a video on this. Without this skill you can't really do any personal development. something called loss aversion may be useful to use as a technique to finish what one started. some other ideas: delayed gratification. grit. habits and routines.

Read cal newports book deep work it have insights on quitting online addiction. (As a bonus it also is about how to become a superstar) One of the things he says is that once the brain is weird for distractions it becomes addictive to it so you have to rewire your brain to go without distractions (paraphrasing) a way to rewire your brain from distractions is to be bored more often. i also recommend looking into digital minimalism. For procrastinating look at this link. It may be for blender but it works for other things too. https://www.blenderguru.com/podcasts/get-good-blender-fast

Maybe you could do them early in the morning that way you won't get tired if you got all the sleep you need.

i think first having a clear goal one at a time with a deadline can help then use either of these two techniques: loss aversion. Work progress journal. Loss aversion is the idea that we are more likely to be motivated if we have something to lose so you could owe someone money if you don't finish your goal. The work progress journal should be that its embarrassing to write down your reasons for procrastination on paper which may help to make you motivated. sources: blender guru from youtube(The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Artists) and cal newport(how to become a straigt a student) I have also heard that it can be good to do one hard thing everyday or go outside your comfort zone everyday. Maybe you could also look at your beliefs. It might just be that there is some belief that is holding you back. it could also have something to do with self image. Or that your brain tells you that you have a bad plan and therefore doesn't give you the motivation to do it. (Idea from cal newport) it might be good to look at why you don't have the self discipline you want from a psychological perspective or from a belif perspective and then figure out what you can do to overcome it. Some interesting books may be grit by angela duckworth, the power of full engagement by tony schwartz, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success by carol dweck, the obstacle is the way by ryan holiday, feel the fear and do it anyway by susan jeffers. https://www.actualized.org/articles/the-art-of-solving-problems-permanently http://calnewport.com/blog/2011/07/15/how-to-cure-deep-procrastination/
