  1. 1. hahahahahah 2. There does not exist a "great vegan honey debate". You are deluding yourself. 3. It is complete nonsense. Let's give this a go, shall we? I hand you a puppy, a carrot, and a knife. I put a gun to your head and tell you to stab one of them. Any person with anything resembling any amount of sanity will obviously stab the carrot because you fucking understand that the suffering of the carrot is not comparable to the suffering of the puppy so please stop making a mockery out of their life and slaughter with this "plants feel" nonsense. Also animal agriculture uses an incredible amount more plant food to feed the animals before they make it to our plate, so if this comment was made with any sort of genuine intention, you would realize that if you cared about the reduction of suffering in any form you would stop consuming animal products. But you don't care. You're just providing your ego with self-justification so you don't have to face what you are actually doing. 4. What the fuck? OF COURSE YOU AS AN INDIVIDUAL DON'T CONSUME A HUGE AMOUNT OF ANIMAL PRODUCTS. One person is just a drop in the bucket. Another reason why it's so easy for us to not care. It's called the diffusion of responsibility, it is a very real social phenomenon, look it up. Just as one nazi back in the day is "just a drop in the bucket" and it's not like quitting your job would change anything. But you're not in nazi germany, you're in modern day society with perfectly easy access to almost every possible food you can imagine down the street at your local supermarket. Yet you still choose to be part of the group that is responsible for the largest systemic genocide in our planet's history. If you're ok with that, sure whatever, but I'm not going to sugercoat reality for you.
  2. The loss of life caused by these actions are absolutely nothing compared to the animal agriculture industry. We slaughter two billion lives every single week. In comparison, only 100 billion humans have ever lived in the entire history of our planet. The loss of life is incomparable to anything else that has ever happened in earth's history, including every mass extinction event. There is no excuse or justification for this other than completely not giving a shit.
  3. There is no point. Objectively, at least. Life is what you make of it. Just have fun and express your creativity. Maybe invest in Leo's life purpose course.
  4. There has only ever been a single definition of veganism, and that is someone who abstains from any and all animal products. You cannot have systemic genocide with "compassion and honour". There is no "method" that respects their life. And don't bring up this plant feeling nonsense.
  5. So you have no basis for anything you've been saying.
  6. My aim is not to bring them out of delusion, it is to express my opinion.
  7. Materialistic world view? What does that even mean? Your reasoning is completely empty. You don't think humans are nothing but atoms yet you are unable to explain yourself further. You have yet to lose your ego. You think you're some super special separate entity in the universe when you are not.
  8. This is correct, lust and love are separate emotions. They just happen to go pretty well when used together
  9. Find some new hobbies and join local communities around those. If you live in the middle of nowhere maybe time to think about moving. There are billions of people on this earth, and we can only hold around 150 meaningful relationships at one time. That's not a very large number when you think about it. Just put yourself out there more.
  10. Are you serious? You think future human clones will be "less than human"? Their experience of consciousness will be somehow fundamentally different than ours? Na man, you're the one that's deluded here. You can't accept consciousness as everything, as the foundation of all existence, and then deny certain aspects of reality that make you feel less significant. I'm done commenting here. Nothing more to see than an ego trying to preserve itself.
  11. It has nothing to do with what you "view" it as, because you still have not defined anything. Do you not realize this? Do you not realize you are running off of nothing but intuition? Because it feels right ? It won't give that replicated brain any "life"? What is your definition of "life"? Why won't this replicated brain have any life? Explain yourself. Our sense of self is so deeply-rooted in our psychology it is almost impossible to see through, but it can be done. You say consciousness isn't a thing. I agree. It isn't a thing. It isn't anything. It doesn't exist. Or, if you take the perspective that it does exist, then it would be everything. Literally everything. You are no more your body than you are a coffee table than you are a future AI. The concept of self is a fiction and once you see through that, you can see you are no different from any other entity in reality.
  12. And this extremely vague definition is unique to humans... because? What is your rational basis for anything? There is no reason future AIs cannot "experience".
  13. Well you have yet to be able to define it.
  14. Consciousness is non-existential. It is impossible to define or pinpoint. It is an illusion created by the human mind.
  15. No, WE are just programmed automats. When you look at the screen, when you hear sounds, when you become aware of impressions and emotions, your brain is doing all of that with zero input from "you". Zero. We like to think of ourselves as the input to this whole equation but we're really just the output. You don't think future AIs will be able to see? You don't think they will be able to translate audio data into words and meaning? You don't think technology will advance to the point where we can replicate how our brain works and create what we experience as consciousness?
  16. what is the basis for this? define 'perceive'.
  17. define robot and define lifeform. our brain is nothing more than a biological machine.
  18. It is not limited at all, your ego is just scared of non-existence. This is the exact reason why Islam does not teach loss of the ego.
  19. The only religion (if you can even call it that) that teaches losing the ego is (zen) buddhism.
  20. A bit off-topic since this is about couples and not platonic friendships, but I think this buzzfeed video I saw recently is an example that men and women have pretty similar experiences when it comes to sex, this victim-mentality and gender blaming originates from dysfunctional and broken relationships and negative past experiences.
  21. Just because sex exists in our psyche and culture and is sometimes reflected in our interactions with one another does not in any way mean that men and women cannot be friends and hold and cultivate healthy relationships with one another. Our psychology is incredibly complex and there are many different forms of intimacy, many of them platonic. This idea that men (or women) are always "out to get" one another and that everything is a competition comes from wounded egos with some less-than-stellar past experiences.
  22. The idea that men are these "sexual deviants" compared to women is a complete and utter myth. http://mic.com/articles/125260/science-proves-that-women-want-sex-just-as-much-as-men-do http://www.theatlantic.com/sexes/archive/2013/06/turns-out-women-have-really-really-strong-sex-drives-can-men-handle-it/276598/ http://www.bustle.com/articles/109705-women-want-sex-just-as-much-as-men-do-new-survey-shows-and-more-things-to
