Basically the type of work that you're doing for no other purpose than income. I was also a terrible student and dropped out of school because I saw the work as pointless and couldn't bring myself to focus enough on it.
-
Exactly. It's something that I'm also naturally passionate about, and have lots of plans for the future in terms of starting new projects and hopefully businesses that I find contribute meaningfully to the world. There is no sort of creative work that spirituality or enlightenment is incompatible with. This doesn't mean that software development needs to be a center part of my life for the rest of my life, it just means that it's part of what I'm focusing on right now. Do what you love. Love what you do.

Yeah the newsletter doesn't really serve much purpose at the moment other than notifying people that a new video has been posted.

"brain training" type programs usually aren't actually based on science and not that useful. https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/press-releases/2016/01/lumosity-pay-2-million-settle-ftc-deceptive-advertising-charges

I still have the very common problem of not doing work I don't want to do
-
Basically this. They don't really see themselves as being mean, for the most part. Human self-justification is an incredibly strong force.

I don't see any issue. I'm a professional software developer and it's one of the best industries to be in. I earn more for working less hours, and am also usually location independent, meaning I can work anywhere in the world. The above has only resulted in benefits for my spiritual practice. Pursuing enlightenment shouldn't hinder your intellectual capabilities. If done successfully it should enhance them.

I think psychedelics can be useful in inducing positive but temporary no-self experiences, and that ultimately bad trips are fundamentally rooted in deep insecurities you aren't necessarily aware of. Meditate on the experience and ask yourself why it really happened. Try to view the event not as some external chemical stimuli that sent you into disarray, but as something that you caused yourself, and see what you come up with. -
Are you being serious right now? You are the only member of this forum with negative reputation. Why do you think that is? None of these issues ever arise until you enter the discussion. Do you honestly not see this? Everyone here was doing nothing but contributing ideas to help someone's situation, and now it's turned into another back and forth that you initiated because you disagreed someone else's views, and proceed to get hung up on "proving the truth" or whatever. I am perfectly content with dropping this discussion now because it is useless and provides no further benefit to anybody. Are you? Or do you still have some neurotic need to continue and prove yourself "right" about whatever it is you're trying to prove, which you still have yet to actually say much of anything about. Again, this is textbook troll behavior. And if you're not trying to troll you need to seriously take a step back and objectively examine the situation.

But what are these "other elements of reality"? You're disagreeing yet at the same time not offering any further help or reason as to why this is the case. Remember, this thread is for @Saarah, and you should be focused on providing useful advice, not bickering with me.

When I said 'you' I meant just some random person as an example, not you in particular. And narcissism isn't synonymous with 'whatever feels good to you'.

Based on the above I'm wondering how much meditation you actually do. These are very clearly neurotic patterns of thought. -
If you genuinely consider narcissism a core value then you have a lot more self-improvement work ahead of you.

A recent episode of Black Mirror portrays this very well:

They are nothing more than outputs of the programming of our biological brain. They can be produced from non-biological entities just as well.

You don't understand what consciousness and feelings are. We are already robots, and will merely be shedding our biological machines for their non-biological counterparts. It is a possible next stage of human evolution.

You shouldn't be looking at life purpose as something that gives you motivation. Enlightenment tells us that there is no 'you'. Life purpose is simply living a life that is completely congruent with your values and what makes you happy in the moment with no further ulterior motives.

The benefits of strong determination don't even begin to kick in unless you're doing at least an hour. I started with half an hour, increased it to an hour after a few weeks, and plan to increase it another half hour soon. It can be difficult but that's the entire point, you need to learn to have control over yourself. -
For those who have purchased the life purpose course, anyone feel like sharing their 'me' sheets? I'll admit I rushed a bit through the course. Leo stresses to do every exercise fully and completely, but I really needed to get something out on paper while I find the time to work more fully on my self-actualization in the coming months, so this may see some changes soon, but just wanted to put something out there. What has everyone else gotten out of the course? ----------------------------------- Life Purpose: Be a source of inspiration for more positive creativity and compassion in the world. Zone of Genius: Your own personal technical aptitude (mostly software engineering at the moment) and realizing creative potential in others. Domain of Mastery: Software engineering / computer science. Ideal Medium: Founding my own creative studio. Top 10 Values: 1. Love 2. Creativity 3. Community / Connection 4. Hope 5. Flow 6. Wisdom 7. If you look into buddhism at all, I'd recommend looking into zen buddhism in particular. I might even call it more academic in nature than religious, almost all the mysticism found in other schools isn't really present.

Then do so.
