nice work! I want to get more into electronic music production as well.

Never really understood the fasting craze, to be honest. I'm already close to being underweight and don't see what starving my body of nutrients is going to accomplish. Isn't it healthier just to stay active and eat well?

There's so much great vegan food out there! The variety in my food has only increased since going vegan. I've learned to cook more and have many more cuisine types in my diet. And the amount of alternatives to meat and dairy is only growing larger every day, it's super easy especially if you live in a major city. There are a ton of good resources out there (vegankit.com), and if you have anything specific you're wondering about, feel free to fire away.

My basic takeaway from the research I've done on polyphasic sleep is that if you really need or want those extra hours in the day, it's certainly an approach you can take with varying degrees of success, however I haven't been convinced it's desirable for peak creative output, and the vast majority of the time it isn't more hours in the day you need, but more focus in the hours that you have.

I've been eating tons of nattō recently : D super healthy and cheap

I'm vegan along with some other forum-goers. The core of my reasoning can be split into the ethical and ecological consequences. Modern day animal agriculture is the primary driver behind almost every single major environmental illness our planet faces today- deforestation, ocean acidification, global warming.. all progressing at alarming rates. This is the toll that slaughtering two billion lives every week takes. For some perspective, only 100 billion humans have ever lived in all of history. If you want some more statistics I'd recommend checking out documentaries like cowspiracy. We are losing an enormous amount of biodiversity every single day, for what? What is all of this death and destruction for? Something as inconsequential as a palette preference? This has gone way too far and needs to stop. This is not the "circle of life", this is systematic genocide that is harming not only other perfectly sentient, completely emotional beings, but ourselves and our planet. Aren't we supposed to be striving towards enlightenment along with a more holistic view of the world? One of the core consequences of the no-self philosophy is that compassion and love become principles of the highest order, and one cannot claim to have attained that while still contributing to this system. That is an action taken with low consciousness and awareness.

Has anyone had any good experiences with specific long-term meditation retreats? I'm in New York and have been eyeing Dai Bosatsu Zendo but wanted to open up the discussion as it will be my first retreat.

While helping others is a form of ego preservation in lower consciousness humanity, once you completely let go of the self, unconditional compassion and love become principles of the highest order, so don't worry, you still have good things to look forward to : ) -
I use this as my morning exercise routine: reddit.com/r/bodyweightfitness/wiki/kb/recommended_routine

I personally view veganism as a required step towards higher consciousness / awareness. One of the core consequences of the no-self philosophy is that compassion and love are supposed to become extremely high priority principles, and you can't claim to have attained that while still contributing to the largest genocide (both ethically and ecologically) of our planet's history.

ugh yeah I'm the same as Leo, have this super fast metabolism and need to eat like 4,000+ calories to gain any weight. I've been trying on and off but I really need to stay consistent. As for why- I'm still slightly underweight and want to gain a bit of muscle mass.

What do people think of listening to music while meditating? Do you believe you should or shouldn't? Indifferent? If you do, what kind do you listen to? Personally, if I don't have the apartment to myself, I'll usually put on something like this.

oo yeah rain is a great idea, this site seems like it could be useful for recreating environmental sounds: noisli.com There are a few guided meditations I've liked for modifying my own techniques, Leo has a good one on his channel. -
Dhana has it down : ) our basic environment is much more important than most people think- start the day off properly, eat healthy (i.e. plant-based), stay active, and get enough sleep; the rest will follow.

Here's the routine I use : ) reddit.com/r/bodyweightfitness/wiki/kb/recommended_routine

My morning mainly consists of a 1 - 2 hour meditation (every day), one hour exercise routine (every other day), and then just quickly showering, preparing the day's food, etc. Takes around three hours, and I try to get started at 6am.

The first video I really got into was his 'Vision for the Self Actualized Life', which is sort of the 'intro' video to the channel I 'spose. His more recent 'Free Will vs Determinism' and 'Understanding Awareness' are more favorites, along with his enlightenment and meditation videos.

doing self-inquiry work like that is only going to help a very small, select group of people. talking about not having a self will likely only further their depression, assuming they don't just immediately chalk you up to be some crazy new age hippy, which is the more likely scenario.

Really great read along with some obviously profound insights. Looking forward to future installments : )

Gonna have to agree with pgchollet- saying everyone suffers from PTSD and every psychological illness stems from it is just... wrong.

Kelley's experiences above are what I was referring to. I'm no therapist and not sure what advice to give, but it sure isn't telling you that you can just think everything away, subtlety implying you're doing this to yourself.
