julienw replied to Carl-Richard's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
C'mon man. He's being pretty straightforward. I think the question is really just: are psychedelic awakenings merely temporary states (psychonautics) vs. a potential for an affectation of more sustained growth (spirituality). I'm not arguing for either side, just trying to elucidate what I think is being said here. I also believe Carl is trying to delineate Leo's teaching's as a particular category of discussion around spirituality and awakening as compared to other gurus, etc. -

@Carl-Richard I think you're onto something here and that your points are not being sufficiently addressed. The part that really stood out to me from your original post is this: This is a really nice way to frame Leo's work. As you mentioned, I too am not denigrating the value of having the experiences. But I haven't seen a lot from Leo about integration. The main thrust of his work is (like he says above) getting to the supernova. But it's one thing to experience a supernova and then come back to normal for the remainder of your life until your next transient experience of a supernova, and another thing to integrate the experience to alter your baseline state of consciousness (i.e. growth--like you said). I can see how just experiencing the sheer power of a supernova could adjust your baseline to a higher state, especially repeated experiences of that, but I myself have noticed the divide between hearing Leo's words and understanding what it means from an experiential perspective. I don't think I will until I try 5-MeO-DMT, and Leo has stated in the past that his goal with this work is psychedelic awakening as the method, and that if you can't hang then that's kind of your problem, but it does make it harder to relate to and absorb his more lofty teachings. However, I do appreciate a lot of what he has to say in the realm of just understanding reality from a different perspective, changing who you are in relation to the other people in your life and society (e.g. not being a doormat people-pleaser), and prioritizing solitude and contemplation for coming to new insights about who you are and why. -
To infinity and beyond What do you think @Leo Gura?

Preface that I am a left-leaning progressive who is biased against the right. Open-minded to learning more about liberal hypocrisy and double standards, but still, some of the right's are just comically blatant: -"Pro-lifers" who care more about a clump of cell's existence than the life of the mother when they say all pregnancies should go to completion, even when the birth and/or pregnancy threatens the life of the adult mother AND oftentimes the life of the unborn or soon-to-be-born child. Additionally the insistence that abortion bans be enforced even for cases of rape and incest, which seems extremely un-Christian. What would Jesus have said about that? Let's see how Ted Cruz would feel if this happened to his teenage daughter. -"Pro-lifers" who want unlimited access to guns that lead to the deaths of thousands of Americans every year. Guns are the leading cause of death in children in this country -Right-wingers who are "pro-police" until it is no longer convenient for them. E.g. right-wingers who attacked police on Jan. 6 -The belief in a country based on "the rule of law," unless that law and justice is being applied legally to their precious leader Donald, who has obviously committed multiple felonies over the last 4 years in addition to the many crimes he committed in his private life before that (see: "Lock Her Up" movement, except they carried out an investigation which Hilary cooperated with and they found no evidence for criminal charges, but when Trump took the stand the other week he literally pleaded the Fifth --quote from Trump at a rally of his: "If you have to plead the 5th, you are obviously guilty," or something along those lines) -An obsession with "freedom" but that only applies to the right wing and only in the manifestation that the right wing deems acceptable -"Separation of church and state," except they literally make children say every day that they pledge allegiance to this country "Under God," and every successful politician has been a practicing Christian who prays to God publicly during speeches and other national addresses (this applies to both sides). Basically if you're not openly Christian you cannot become the President of the USA. Also the fact that in court you have to swear an oath with your hand on the Bible.

Anyone ever experimented with DXM (Robitussin, robotripping, etc.) for consciousness work? I used to take psychedelics regularly but it's been a few years. Not particularly keen on sourcing and all that at this moment in my life, but I could swing by my local drugstore and pick up Robitussin quickly and legally. I'm just not sure it's what I'm looking for, so would appreciate any feedback on its value as a chemical for inner work.

@Leo Gura yeah, I wouldn't say Liz Cheney did "not sell out to MAGA depravity." Look at her voting record pre 2020 election. In fact, she voted in literal lock-step with the depraved MAGA nutjobs. That's a looong list of anti-humanitarian votes she made. The definition of not integral. She just knew when it went beyond too far and would go down in history as a huge shitbag.

If you've never done 5-MeO-DMT, but train yourself to lucid dream and smoke 5-MeO in the dream, could it be possible to have a full-blown 5-MeO experience within the context of the lucid dream? P.S. I know I could just do it in real life, but more just a thought experiment.

@Danioover9000 For sure. I give him grace, he doesn't owe us shit. And those trials and tribulations sound taxing. I was mostly just poking fun but definitely it was a cynical, troll-y post. I don't rely on his videos to guide my life, just enjoy watching every one of them. To be fair though those "PR nightmares" were kind of self-induced, haha. -
Haha, that's awesome man. Sounds amazing. Looking forward to hearing all about it you silk-robed psychonaut!

Well said. This all has echoes to his Burning Through Karma video. Like you said, he's getting something out of his system that probably needs to be expressed--i.e. posting wild content on social media. He's never had a chance to do that since Actualized.org's been such a serious endeavor.

Leo said in his most recent video that he will be shaking things up with his teachings and not be so serious and direct with his communications. I think this is his way of showing us that he is not some perfect enlightened guru who doesn't do funny, stupid human shit and post about it on the Internet. I believe he is well-grounded and knows what he's doing, albeit it is a bit out of left field for him imo. In another thread he said that he is "saner than ever," and I think he is using the shock factor to point to the fact that our conception of sanity is completely biased and relative. In a way, he is probably trying to teach us something about ourselves and the ways in which we hide who we are.

@Leo Gura Loving these wild instagram posts mate. Keep 'em coming. Are they trip-inspired/induced? I noticed you're pupils were dilated af haha. Also, who is that beautiful kitty cat? Did she pass away recently. -
Check out this response on Quora to my question: https://www.quora.com/When-I-sleep-with-my-dog-how-do-I-know-if-my-dreams-and-unconscious-ideas-are-coming-from-my-mind-or-his A classic example of posturing as though one knows! But seriously, what do you all think? I swear my dogs mind and mine were merging in the nether-regions of dreamland this morning.

@Thought Art Because, in the countries where most people here are speaking from (USA, Canada, Western and Northern Europe--all assumptions), unless you are trafficking large quantities of these drugs on the black market or involved in committing other high-profile felonies, law enforcement is just not going to bother going after you. The fact of the matter is law enforcement in Stage Orange countries doesn't really care about personal use of illegal drugs. Especially psychedelics and grey-area research chemicals. Harder, more illicit drugs like crystal meth, crack, cocaine, and heroin are a different story. They cause way more death directly (overdoses) and indirectly (black market crime) than psychedelics. If this forum was dedicated to the sourcing and vending of large volumes of those drugs, it would be snatched up by the DEA in a heartbeat. Simply talking about one's experience on psychedelics and similar substances, as someone mentioned above, is protected free speech and not of itself illegal. If you think this is wild check out the Erowid experience vault.

@Leo Gura Sounds extremely rad. Would try.

@MsNobody I used this tek a couple times about 6-7 years ago in college. At that time, I learned that San Pedro was totally legal and that you could make mescaline from it, so I went ahead and purchased 13 lbs of cuttings on eBay for like $55. A total bargain! That was before I realized that that was way more than I could ever get through, considering the time it took to prepare a dose and the taste. Anyways, here's what I did. It's not bad at all if you set aside an afternoon or evening to prep it. Take a 1 foot cutting and slice it like a cucumber into 1/2 inch thick star sections. Further cut these into quarters so they fit in a blender with equal parts cactus and water. Sometimes at this stage I would squeeze some fresh lemon juice into the mixture to try to potentiate the alkaloids (not sure about the science on this but, what the heck). This may take several rounds of blending. Pour mixture into a large pot and cook slowly on low heat, stirring regularly for about half an hour. Then you can heat it up a bit more to a light boil for about 3-4 hours. You may add more water during this period to prolong the boiling portion, but be sure to avoid burning. Finally, take a cheese cloth or old natural-fiber shirt and hang it over a bowl or the blender. Pour the goopey mixture onto the cloth and allow it to cool down enough that you can ring it out properly. Or you can hang it with a string or rope to allow the liquid to drip into the receptacle. Finally, drink it down once it's cool enough. I stole this method directly from here if you want a more detailed look. Highly recommend: Erowid Cacti Preparation Also be forewarned that the amount of mescaline in every cutting varies significantly and unpredictably. I had trips that were underwhelming and others that were pretty mind-blowing. However those results are pretty messy since for the strongest trip I ever had with San Pedro, I also took some acid along with the mescaline dose, and smoked weed at the tail end of the trip. But that was probably one of my best trips ever. Also, the taste is so uniquely bitter and nauseating that you probably want to have something sweet or tangy to chase it down with (orange juice or something). Good luck! By the way, I don't know anything about a dehydration method. If anything, that sounds trickier. I would say this method is no more difficult than following a recipe for cooking a nice meal. In fact, it is probably easier. There's a lot of downtime where you just get to swirl the soup in the pot and watch the way the surface form patterns--in itself fairly psychedelic for some reason. I think it's because the density of this mixture and it's components are highly unusual compared to most things you would boil slowly for 4 hours, haha...

@Purple Man Hmm, interesting points! He definitely has a high falutin flavor to him. Hard to parse what the hell he means sometimes haha...
