  1. Related: the Pareto principle
  2. Least courageous moment: I stood by, and allowed this sad massacre to occur. Most courageous: I stood up to those thugs, and managed to stop the next one.
  3. This - as it turns out, it's not really about a row boat.
  4. That's it - you've found your calling: put on a backpack, and travel o'seas asap. And if your girlfriend is truly the mother of your future children, she'll understand your need to (temporarily) place any current plans on hold, while you go out in the world and find yourself.
  5. Liberation for this ego (me) is the desire for an end to all suffering, or more precisely, an end to attachment to all suffering. Paradoxically, the easier our lives are (and the less suffering we experience), the less likely we are to "seek" liberation - until that painful time comes, when we are forced by default to detach from the good life, all at once.
  6. I'm also doomed... where should I move to? I hear the state of nirvana is a great place to live...
  7. (Psst... Invest in yourself, a simple life)
  8. Awareness - that moment when you've just boarded your flight, and you realize you're wearing two left shoes.
  9. 11. True Friendship. Walking with a friend in the dark, is better than walking alone in the light - Helen Keller
  10. This is how your best friend could possibly see your situation: ... the people I'm watching on youtube ( Scientology ) are brainwashing me. When I tell him that Scientology changed my life and now I'm trying to reach my highest potential he just makes fun of me. Scientology, what should I do? Kick him out of my life? I've already told him that I don't want such people around me.
  11. Our gardener's little girl is one of those curious children who send parents crazy with a loop of never-ending questions. You know, like "which is bigger, your house or the King's palace? The King's palace or Bangkok? Bangkok or Thailand? Thailand or the USA? What is bigger than USA? And bigger that the Earth? Bigger than the solar system? Than the galaxy?"... and so on. This afternoon she played the usual game on her unsuspecting victim: her: "Hey mistaaah... how many trees (do) you have?" me: "This garden has 32 trees" her: "Is 32 trees same like a forest?" me: "hmmm... not sure" her: "Where does (the) forest stop?" (pointing to our local forest) me: "Maybe by the canal road at the bottom of the mountain" her: "Mistah, what about one tree just (a) lille' bit (an arm span) past the canal road, is it still in the forest, or is it (a) lonely tree?" me: "Not lonely - it's still part of the forest" her: "what about another tree little bit more away (past the edge of the forest), is it still in the forest or is it lonely tree?" (5m, 50m, 200m and so on past past the "edge" of the forest, until 5km later we have arrived at our garden) me: "not lonely - they are all part of the forest" her: (pausing her questions, looking as if in deep contemplation) me: (Damn... that sick feeling one gets when beginning to regret ever opening the mouth) her: "so, every tree belongs to the forest?" me: "Yes" her: "How many forests in the whoooole world?" me, replying without much thought: "One" She gave me her little smile, and then went off to play with my dogs. How many questions do we have? How many answers do we need? "Seek, and you shall not find" - Peter Russell

  13. @PureExp , excellent analogy! This would be a worthwhile project for someone with the available skills and time.
  14. Congratulations on your newly-found *freedom. * Freedom from a predominantly narcissist and superficial community; freedom from a mostly unproductive and unbeneficial pastime; freedom from a possible addiction; freedom from the powers who pry into your private life and seek control of your life; freedom.
  15. Truth is, it's not so much that we trust Leo, it's more like we play along. Trust your intuition, backed by critical thinking.
  16. Metaphors such as these are very important for grasping the incomprehensible.
  17. "A new research study contradicts the established view that so-called split-brain patients have a split consciousness. Instead, the researchers behind the study, led by UvA psychologist Yair Pinto, have found strong evidence showing that despite being characterised by little to no communication between the right and left brain hemispheres, split brain does not cause two independent conscious perceivers in one brain." Who would've thunk it...
  18. @ZeN, I don't know why... but that music takes me back to the 90's. R.I.P.
  19. Thanks, @Phil - the only insurance that is of interest for me at this stage, is based on non-duality/awareness matters.
  20. Loneliness and isolation are symptoms of feeling a separateness from the divine. If we could transcend our ego barriers and feel and live our true non-dual reality, then loneliness would not be possible.
  21. What do you call a wolf that's aware of its surroundings? Awarewolf What do you call a werewolf that doesn't know he's a werewolf? An unawarewolf.
