because people like to make a huge mess of teachings. "do nothing" is an ego shatterer technique for meditations. but you need the discipline to actually sit down and practice. enlightenment is not experienced with sloppiness. -

what do you mean by this? it means that the path is about your direct experience of enlightenment. stop idolizing what others say or experience. -

discipline yourself, focus and sharpen the mind; let go of intellectual pride... don't allow mental hickups to take over. they're not the goal; kill your buddhas, quit those videos that talk about awareness and enlightenment and live enlightenment at its core it's like an orgasm. once you know it exists, why waste time describing it? go and have one! -

i am doing this because i sense a good spark of sincerity in you. you've come quite far already, but beware not to get stuck and lose momentum. the mind is an endless maze of tricks. how does it feel to come here and start a thread full of articulate contemplations? do you feel smart? can you sense pride and desire for validation? you said that there would be no use for the actualized.org platform. what am i doing here, then? i am inviting you to go beyond, way beyond. reach the other shore of the shoreless river. gate gate paragate parasamgate bodhi swaha -

that's the attachment, then. would you have the courage to let it all go as well? -

@Aakash ah, there you go again. see you on the other side. -

@kieranperez thanks for notifying me. i'll certainly listen to the podcast. i understand what you feel and i agree. goggins has learned a tough way of dealing with himself... that's how he gets out of his mental trash. but it is also possible to live an AMAZING and disciplined life without all that flintiness. i even think it's his next step for development: learn about gracefulness and true peace of mind. thus, i invite you to have some compassion towards goggins. let's not demonize the guy. -

we need discipline and effort to sit down and practice. but when we sit down we need to give up and let go. it's kinda confusing at first but we get used to it after a few retreats. -

you can't achieve samadhi with effort -

@kieranperez nice yes, you can't do it. we practice zazen to learn how to give up. -

@Ecocotton if you want to realize life & death, you have to fully realize what you are RIGHT NOW. what is alive? what dies? -

thinking about enlightenment is a good sign that you're not. -
@Chopin i don't think this is a good place to find friendships. this is certainly a good place if you want help on finding friends in real life, though. general tip: expecting anything at all from people will simply lead to suffering from both sides.

it's great if we look at it from outside and observe the bigger picture. it does represent a major social phenomenon. BUT in the end it does way more harm than good, because it's an initiative that contributes to stagnation on lower values.

unfortunately, no lots of people are bluntly ignorant about their eating habits, poisoning themselves with shitloads of sugar as an attempt to escape from anxiety everyday. and that's just an example.

aw, deriving the chain rule from the raw definition of derivatives how cute

that's using two different meanings of the word "role" in the same statement. doesn't work. but i get your point. related to the first meaning of "role": we, humanity in general, don't even know how to eat properly yet. pick any example of animal from any other species and it will make no mistake about its perfect diet. related to the second meaning of "role": yes, we feel purposeless and free to do whatever. and this aspect of the human experience has its own beauty.

i find it funny and sad. reasonable funny at first, then deeply sad. -
@Emerald he was talking about himself on that one. at this point, the only way he can get help is through tons of suffering. suffering can shatter even the biggest egos... it's a beautiful thing.

we humans are the only species on this planet that doesn't have a clue about its role in nature. every other animal is doing just fine.

i'll give you an idea for you to think about... why don't you use this 1 year of gap to get rid of such petty feelings? it's not an easy task and it demands a lot of attention, time and patience. it's something that very few people have the courage to do and it will be useful for the rest of your life. it's certainly something worth striving for.
-
aaaaah, now we're talking. do you have a plan to overcome this feeling of depending on the approval of others?
-
then document and publish (optional) your way of dealing with trolls and haters. remember: it's always about the quality of your life.

very interesting! here's my 2 cents: give up on helping people and just talk about your own journey. focus on how you felt, what you did and how you feel now. make it more sincere. you clearly haven't mastered these subjects yet because it's easy to sense lots of insecurities in you. make a more humble approach :).
