I believe the Buddha said the minute you are contemplating afterlife is the minute you are suffering.

Part of me feels as if I could handle the surrendering part of the process due to progress I have made through mindfulness and awareness. But part of me doubts myself right now because I still have trouble surrendering to things in this existence, so how could I be so sure about ego death?

Its funny how Leo did massive research on psychedelics and went about using them in a constructive way, while I just kinda started doing them in my late teens and early twenties with no real knowledge of 'real reality'. I haven't done any in a long long time and wonder what it would be like now if I did. But in a lot of ways, taking psychedelics led me to my current spiritual path. I'm not saying everyone should take them. But me being open minded to what they had to offer (and yes mushrooms, dmt, and lsd are not in the same ballpark as life ruining drugs) is the same open mindedness that made me question reality all together.

To be honest I feel like I have grown more and more confused about what truth is since I truly understood the concept of enlightenment (about two years ago). I am trying to find that middle path. Part of me questions whats up and whats down now, but I also understand that I do have desires and do crave success, and that requires me to be grounded in the dream to a certain extent. I am aware that these things are kind of the opposite of truth. But I feel like I must build these things to let them go. And with disciplined practices and most importantly, staying aware, I have faith that truth will reach 'me' when it's ready.
