  1. From what you wrote I am guessing that your ego is calling the shots and as always is paying little attention to your desire for a fulfilling happy life. The ego I am finding out , is responsible for keeping us separate from others and safe in the current situation even when one is unhappy in it as the ego will not take ones happiness into account rather it protects ones physical body at the expense of happiness.
  2. Gabe your first post is what people are practicing to be a better person , in meditation one practices mindfulness to become familiar with it so we can practice it in our daily lives / interactions with people. Your right on the button , but its the same button everyone uses. Claiming you wrote it seems a little brash imo , no disrespect intended its something I noticed. I don't mean to hurt your pride instead I mean to open your eyes to others opinions
  3. The Mind being trainable and programmable has the ability to change its outlook to that of others outlook. Words can shape and change the mind like an axe can change a tree
  4. The self serving ego is playing games in your head to keep you as you are. Clarify your goals to yourself , on paper and write what action is needed for it to come to volition. Think of the improvements it will have on your life , avoid entertaining any negative self chatter your ego is telling you as it will try and interfere with your growth and try to keep you alone and safe in your current predicament.
  5. You got me thinking Gabe The task I / we face is to make order out of the chaos in our lives with the opponents being ourselves
  6. For me cannabis causes a simple mindedness such as my recall diminishes and my conversations begin to have pauses as I search for words I want to say instead of it being right there , like when I'm sober/ straight. Thankfully the memory comes back when sober ... When high on cannabis it turns off the concern for the current situation I'm in , leaving me distracted from all perceived problems. Much like being temporary enlightened , but not fully alike , its more of a peek into serenity for me.
  7. Your on the right page as far as I can tell as a mentally strong opponent is the hardest to strike or pin down , slippery fighters to hit are clever people.
  8. Ego

@ttm the insight in that statement is strong and accurate imo The Ego as I understand it , is the part of the brain that tries to keep one safe from perceived dangers or threats , a useful purpose but is wild and untamed with very little reasoning power if any. The popular belief is that the ego is responsible for our self confidence and self worth , but its not , it wants to keep us as safe as possible at all costs even sabotaging friendships etc etc The ego wants to separate us from others so we stay safe , lonely and sad have no effect on the ego , it wants separation from others to keep us safe. It wants to protect at all costs , happiness does not matter to it only survival and separation from others. Apparently its a left over from of our early primitive brain that runs on instinct without the need for knowledge. The trick is to ignore its bad advice its selfishness and its desire to separate us from loved ones and friends. My tip is to A) Don't argue with it , instead ignore it and the thoughts it suggests to you B) Use your thinking brain instead of the reactive ego with its selfish thinking.
  9. I had been grinding my own coffee beans for 15 years , but have stopped coffee and green tea all together as it was effecting my sleep big time eventually giving me insomnia. Its been 6 months now without coffee and cream & 4 months without green tea. What a change it made , now I fall asleep within a few minutes and do not wake till morning. If your sleep is suffering , stop the caffeine intake and in a week or two you could be falling a sleep quickly and sleeping soundly
  10. You can also lead the fight paying little attention to the opponents response and plummet him with 35 rabbit punches and a roundhouse to the head. There is no need to spar in a fight instead act fast and dirty before he does
  11. I like what you had to say in the post @popi Makes sense and leaves the door open for the person to decide what they want. Where as I suggest he get laid for a while , like I know whats best for him. I don't. Sometimes the first person one dates turns into a life long marriage.
  12. I use a kick boxing bag for exercise and self defense practice Practice hitting with all your body weight , pushing from your toes upward will employ all of your body weight to the hit , practice lunging and hitting a kick boxing bag until you are dead tired. Rest and do it again , repeat until your cooked. Practice makes perfect , Bruce Lee mastered the technique , he would spring himself forward to use ALL of his body weight. Quote: I'm not afraid of the man who knows 10,000 punches , I'm afraid of the Man who has practiced one punch 10,000 times. A hard hitting kick is just as important
  13. Birds of a feather flock together you me we are all trying to improve , in short we are all at least a bit crazy , lmao.
  14. firstly keep cool and think when someone is offering advice , wait a moment , think about the comment before you deny it , it could be useful. I have been trying to not let negative comments bother me , I will tell those being negative right on the spot , that they are bringing me down with the negative attitude and to lighten up a tad , friend ! If someone is being a pest by not offering helpful advice but a insult , tell them to stop talking to you that way and to try being nice for awhile... Ask them to crack a smile if they can....smile at them to initiate one and be nice not aggressive , show them you want to play nice. treat people as you want to be treated , its a must. Don't ignore valid *advice* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Constructive criticism needs to be understood to be recognized and appreciated. Constructive criticism is the process of offering valid and well-reasoned opinions about the work of others, usually involving both positive and negative comments, in a friendly manner rather than an oppositional one. The purpose of 'constructive criticism is to improve the outcome. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  15. Hi guys , Lots of action happening in my life which is forcing me (love it) to practice what I have learned immediately , Today an issue that came up that required Big action on my part for the next 3 days , it stressed and worried me for about 10 minutes when it dawned on me that Worry sure takes the fun out of life ( light bulb goes on ) It was at that point I realized that I could handle the problem but more importantly that it would actually be good to accomplish which would make me happy. Worry is a lie that takes the fun and zest out of life , If your worrying about something in your lives try to approach the problem constructively , as inside every cloud is a sliver lining waiting to be exposed , by you !
  16. H When worry is really a lack of faith in ourselves or others ```````````````````````````` @PetarKa I am trying/doing retraining my brain to take positive action instead of doubt and worry. It will be worth the struggle , as the old habits are bound to give way sooner or later. ````````````````````````````` @David1 That was a great explanation , I know of the speaker , he's a character and a very smart one at that. ````````````````````````````` Thanks all , for your ideas and insight , it helps to hash out the problem to drive it on home. If anyone has more ideas to share or help to offer it would be great
  17. Ah yes , forgot about that one from my AA days around 10 years ago it was my start at smarten up. Serenity , I had forgot all about the preamble ! good stuff thanks for the reminder
  18. The world as a whole has been exposed to me lately , I have to say there is room for improvement but I like it and its possibilities. The possibilities are endless , Gotta love that Its possible for instance to find someone on a similar journey and help each other get threw to the other side. I found two such people to bounce ideas off that support positive action , one more advanced in study and one less. Its all good.
  19. @popi It sure does @FindingPeace I find the same thing all my worry has been for not with no useful purpose only a detriment. Was finding myself slipping back into worry mode threw out the night and this morning , thankfully been able to change my thoughts off the negative and onto the positive aspects of the Day. I know the worrying will come up less often as my brain develops a healthy positive attitudes that will solve the problems as they come up , not dwell on them.
  20. Holy hype video's the last one damn had me running for the hills with a bag of ammo ! Maybe its the propaganda huh ?
  21. I stopped all daytime use since I started the self help / realization , with good effect.
  22. To me they are the same its all about improvement and growth from old to new , Buddhist Monks are actually very scientific
  23. Meditation works great to teach your mind to be mindful of its thought and that you have control over what thoughts you relay to others. People generally give advice or suggestions because they Care about people in general , its not easy to show someone the errors of their way.
  24. Teach her threw example , be really really happy and positive enjoy life and let her know she can change for the better too. , when she is ready.
  25. Good posture makes one feel grounded , Posture, breathing, body language and personal power are interconnected and interdependent. Think body-mind THEN add spirit. Poor Posture invites distorted, restricted, shallow breathing and a host of other problems including lessened self respect, self expression and increased depression. Try this. Sit down and bend over and try to breathe in. Notice how it is harder to breathe. This is an extreme example of how our muscles and tendons get over restricted and cause a lessening of depth and ease in breathing. This also restricts your esophagus, phrenic nerves, aorta, trachea, brachiocephalic vein, but most important, breathing volume and ease. http://www.breathing.com/articles/posture.htm
