@Wendelin Krisnhamurti said that the moment you stop thinking, you drop dead. He's right. As long as you're experience sensations, you're experiencing thought. Want to experience what no thought is like? Go into a deep sleep. But that's not really an experience - it's emptiness. Closing your eyes and seeing black and just "being" there, without sleep, is an experience. That's not to say you can't focus on certain activities or sensations within your body. But focus, itself, is a thought. -
First off, what is self-esteem? It's a thought. Quit believing this thought that you have low self-esteem, and thinking it's somehow reality or the truth. Second, why do you even believe you have low self-esteem? Do you try and please others? Do you hold others above you and think they matter more than yourself? Why? Because society and personal experiences you had growing up made you believe such a silly thing? You can have "high self-esteem" this very moment: Just quit giving a fuck. Other people don't matter. What they think doesn't matter. What you think doesn't matter, so why should other people's thoughts matter? Do what you want, and do it unapologetically, because it doesn't fucking matter.

@Donald I've been listening to Krishnamurti lately, and all I can say is that this dude is amazing! I really come to understanding, just by listening to him. Nothing is sugar coated, nothing is fancy or sexified, everything is completely no-bullshit. He ain't trying to sell you on some kind of dream or anything. I would recommend anyone interested in this whole spiritual thing to check him out. The more a teacher jabs your ego and un-glorifies enlightenment, the more effective they are. -

@Schulzy Interesting. All that tells me is that I need to be more rambunctious to get the attention that I deserve.

Does disidentifying with the ego revitalize you? I dunno, but I have found a new spark. I have a lot more energy than before, I jump around and stretch a lot. I also seem to authentically enjoy social interaction more than I ever have, not from a place of need, but from a place of seeing through my masked ego bullshit. Could be because I've shed my depression. I was depressed for years and kind of didn't know it. Now when sadness and loneliness arise, they're gone as soon as they come up.

No, you don't understand that life is a dream, or how the ego functions. Thinking you understand something doesn't mean you actually understand it. Calling enlightenment "pointless" and thinking you need to "bolster your ego" are more bullshit thoughts you're using to make yourself feel better. You are what you seek. Nothing needs to be done, man. Quit resisting reality and just flow with it. -

I haven't read Yoga Sutras, but the way I interpret it from your post is that it's enforcing becoming detached from things. Detachment = happiness. But forced detachment is not pleasurable, it is a suppression. I think there should be a balance between so-called "spiritual" and "material". If you wanna enjoy pizza and beer, fucking enjoy pizza and beer. But don't become attached to it, be completely fine if you don't have it. Even be okay with death. It's silly to deny the physical-based world, because we obviously exist in some universe that our mind projects a sense of physical reality on. Our mind couldn't function without food or water, we need these things. But denying the "spiritual" side of things is also silly, and will only lead to doubt, suffering, and taking life too seriously. Ultimately, you want to come to the realization that thoughts and ideas are not reality, and to lose all attachments to any opinion or belief you have about reality.- 6 replies

I don’t know why, but recently, I kind of get emotional when I look at the sun (as best as I can without damaging my vision, that is). There’s something about that burst of light in the sky that illuminates everything for us that gives me great peace and a feeling of love. It’s the closest, I feel, that “God” makes its presence obvious, with the moon and the stars in the night sky also being a part of that. It’s no wonder that the concept of God currently envisioned among society is associated with bright light.

It’s best not to cling to any conceptual ideas like “I’m infinite” or “I’m formless consciousness” unless you directly experience it. Even the idea of enlightenment and the idea of an ego are roadblocks, roadblocks on the path to nowhere. That’s just my $.02.

Great question! One I mull over quite a bit. The truthful answer is that there is no meaning to life. Meaning is an idea, a construct of the mind. The mind can not comprehend true meaning: the mind is a tool to help us function in the world, and nothing more. Life just is. You can live life being a miserable, unhappy person, or you can live life being free from your egoic self, and perfectly happy. Both are equally valid ways to experience this miracle we call existence.

Yeah, I've done the staring into a mirror thing a few times. It's a mind blowing hallucination, really. It's like the ego is forcing itself to look at its own creation, the "I" that associates with the body. Since "I" am not really the body, the ego reacts to the challenge and starts panicking at the hallucination. Merely just a meaningless idea, but an interesting effect nonetheless. -
Authority is corruptive, because it's a tool used by the egoic mind. Animals in alpha positions have authority over others in nature, but they don’t do it to feel better about themselves. It’s a survival instinct. Mistreating prisoners or whatever isn’t a survival instinct, or used to protect a society – it’s a tool used by the ego to feed itself and become more powerful.

It's mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter. Throw your ego to the fire! Force it to melt! I honestly need to work on this as well. My whole life, I've cared what people have thought. I'd have regrets over what I have said or done. I'm caring less and less as time goes on, and thanks in large part to awareness. I'm going to die, anyways. All emotions, thoughts, and experiences will long be forgotten for eternity, anyways. Why do I care so fucking much about getting rejected or blown off?
-
I've noticed that among the masses, social media is nothing more than a glorified dick measuring contest. There are very few people that actually care about you as a person, or people you actually care about. Why do I care to keep up with what people I don't really care about are doing? Why do I need some false illusion of myself put out there to a bunch of people? What does it prove, what is the purpose, why am I doing it? Facebook is great for small businesses and niche communities. But outside of that, I feel like it's nothing more than a bunch of chimps self-aggrandizing.

I'm starting to really appreciate babies and very young children. Not that I ever disliked them, but now I realize the soft pureness of a young human child. They don't fully identify with their minds or body. They haven't quite been fully taught yet to identify with their culture and society. Their experiences haven't yet shaped them to be cynical, like almost every adult. They're excited to be alive, and just enjoy the blissfulness of life. Every new experience feels magical and wonderful, just like how life should feel like. Children are amazing. I enjoyed being a child, and I'd love to recapture that magical wonder of being alive. Life isn't serious and does not need to be so hostile. We don't need to make so many damn problems for ourselves. Not every phenomena needs to be explained and understood. Not every experience needs to be mundane and unfulfilling.

I think nihilism, like any philosophical view, is beautiful. We need nihilism to counteract the idea that everything has purpose. But why is it demonized? Is it really so bad?

Everything in the universe is constantly in motion. Life, the planets, the stars, galaxies, the universe as a whole is in motion. Where's it going to?
-
or 1 second late.. it would have missed the earth, and the planet would still be ruled by dinosaurs. Crazy, huh? Kind of wish it never happened. But I wouldn't be around to know the difference.

Being a jackass and dogmatic about everything = getting it out of the system? That's a really fucked up, neurotic, piece of shit system. All you have ever done is slob GTIT/Matthew Lamont off. I wouldn't be surprised if you're associated with this nut case in some way. -
@Schulzy Imagine if the bulls eye on a dart board was moving in an elliptical pattern, at a very fast pace of 30 kilometers per second (the earth's speed of orbit around the sun). The timing on the dart throw has to be just perfect in order to hit the bulls eye. If it's a second early or late, it misses it completely. As Prabhaker mentioned, there's really no such things as flukes or coincidence. But it's fun to think about a little bit.

@Christian Good job. You've realized something that 97% of people take for granted, or refuse to acknowledge. You should listen to Alan Watts. He breaks the concept of reality/God down in an articulate way.

@Mango I believe this is what people call "settling". The way you're describing this situation: it's not love. You're using someone else as a security blanket, and not finding what it is you truly want in life. (Hint: it can't be found in another person) The divorce rate is 50%. Even more marriages than that break apart, but the couples stay together but are miserable. Lifelong commitment is just not possible with someone you don't have intense chemistry, selfless passion, and common values/goals with. Be honest with yourself, and assess your situation from a 3rd perspective.

He's Matthew Lamont. He keeps coming back after (I assume) getting banned, because he's got an inferiority complex when it comes to spirituality. It's the most hilarious thing. Now that I know who he truly is, it's best just to ignore him until he buries himself in a hole somewhere. -

So you're going to discredit everything I say, and call me an unenlightened jerk? Why is the world so black and white for you? You're projecting pretty hard here, buddy. It's okay if you're a miserable sack, but quit attacking others because you think you're better than them, and your way is the only way. Is this Matthew Lamont under another guise?
