  1. Commitment makes up your character. Whatever you focus on -- whatever your attention and energy go to -- grows. You become whatever you're committed to. Don't take this for granted. With time, the consequences of your commitment will become obvious, whether positive or disastrous. Don't delay taking empowering actions, no matter how small they may seem. The sooner you do, the better. Contemplate: You become what you think What are you committed to? What do you devote your energy and attention to on a daily basis?

  3. Contemplation is aimed at experiencing the truth of some matter. It is based on profound questioning. Speculation is imagining what something is or how it will turn out. The latter is easy but it's nothing more than coming up with possible "answers" to an equation without actually going through the process of solving it. A bit like running a marathon vs imagining what running a marathon is like.
  4. Competition can take place without the need for jealousy. Politics, business, sports are manipulation-based fields that require competition between the parties involved. Games of all kinds are in fact based on competition. In these fields, you compete with each other in order to meet your self-agenda. Jealousy, on the other hand, is a waste of time, completely unnecessary and self-generated, not imposed upon you by an external factor. A skillful person isn't afraid of competition.
  5. A lot of it is cultural conditioning and blind faith. So you believe in God, so what? I believe in Santa Claus. The key is becoming conscious for yourself of whatever's true.
  6. Being honest isn't necessarily antithetical to dealing with others in a sensible, gentle manner.
  7. First and foremost, telling the truth must be done towards oneself. Contemplate: what is honesty? Honesty isn't about spitting whatever comes to your mind at any moment as that is yet another manipulation serving your self-agenda -- it's obviously motivated by self-interest. Neither is it being reactive and destructive or acting out one's anger. In social interactions, caution is advised. For example, it may be true that you're angry at someone but at the same time it may also be true that you love her, and so don't want to hurt her. Consider how the principle of honesty is dynamic and context-dependent. Honesty isn't antithetical to care, sympathy and sensitivity.
  8. Something like becoming a monk.
  9. Mind, proof, logic, etc. might come after reality, that is, the latter may be prior to mind and the others. In any case, What would that type of proof entail? A conclusion or conviction? How can the nature of reality be captured in a thought?
  10. Not gonna happen. Enlightenment isn't relative and isn't dependent on "stuff" -- circumstances. This doesn't mean good work can come out of this type of research. Shinzen looks like a wise, smart, nice guy, though I haven't studied him.
  11. Too much theory, intellect and jerking off. I've been too comfortable by going down this route. Time to get down to work and do some serious contemplation, and exposing myself to experience.
  12. Because his work is profound and he's honest lol. Newcomers may find his work unremarkable and even basic. People seem to be mostly after fireworks and fancy ideas. No pretense, no party.
  13. Feel free to get various formats and a couple of paperbacks as a gift for family and friends. In order for Freedom From Suffering to come out, this one has to sell well.
  14. Don't know, others have already provided useful answers though. Practice soccer , you'll get into amazing flow experiences.
  15. Creating purpose seems to be a necessary aspect of being happy in life.
  16. As long as you're clear on what those terms are referring to, why not use them? You can be pragmatic. Each of us must grasp who and what one is for oneself, existentially.
  17. "- Pacify my mind, master. - First show me your mind - I can't find it - There, I pacified it."
  18. Looking forward to this book: https://nutritionfacts.org/book/how-not-to-age/ from author Michael Greger.
  19. I've been noticing the self-contracting nature of pain, tension, trauma and the like, and how they affect how open you're willing to be afterwards. Some serious courage is required in order to transcend this limitation. Personally, this turmoil has made it harder for me to open up. It has made me rigid and less tolerant, and frankly a bit bitter. I'm interested in studying how stress affects the body. With no attachment to self-identity and life story, conflict and drama are more easily seen as conceptual fabrications, and as ultimately unneeded. Of course, hearing this and understanding it rationally is the easy part. Grounding the investigation on your experience isn't necessarily easy but doing so allows for freedom from it. Also, personal reminder to start practicing integral communication. Might write about that at some point.
