  1. that's gotta be that black pill "genetic" component
  2. I have recently become aware of how much everyone around me is suffering on daily basis. This is especially prevalent in food services , coffee places, book stores, transport services etc. When I look at the people working in these places I see pain, disgust, fear and often anxiety and depression. Sometimes I associate myself with their situation so much that I have to leave the place because it leaves me slightly depressed seeing them go through this I wasn't too concerned about this so much before perhaps its a lot of hidden devilry finally coming up after realising I am participating in all of this by purchasing from these places or just becoming slightly more mindful. Wondering if other people often feel the same?
  3. You guys need to stop with all this pill crap. Bunch of cry babies got together and created a conspiracy against women because they could not get laid. Thousands of men are now using this to not work on themselves and to accepts shitty relationships with women they are not attracted to. Get your heads out of sands and start approaching girls as equal human beings not as numbers (she is this and that number so out of my league,,,) not as goddesses and not as sexual objects.
  4. Some of the silicon ones are pretty neat. You have to heat them up a little and they fill your ear canal without causing a lot of discomfort. I find plastic ones hard when you sleep on your side. There are also the foamy ones that are single-use but they are very un-ecological in my opinion and these products shouldn't be sold. Best to always read reviews before you buy.
  5. Macros do not get altered by food cooking. There are some alterations in molecular integrity such as high heat for a long time denaturates protein and breaks down resistant starchy carbohydrates like amylose but overally the value will not change. So ideally you want to measure raw weight whenever possible unless the nutrition table on the label says otherwise. Micronutrients may get altered to some degree. Vitamin C and B1 get depleted rapidly during frying and roasting, somewhatless by boiling. Most minerals don't with exception of magnesium I think. All the metallic ones like iron and zinc will be fully preserved. This is because cooked lentils (and other legumes) become soaked with water which adds to their weight. So 100 grams of raw lentils and 100 grams of cooked lentils do not have the same ratio of macronutrients anymore because you have to account for the added water weight. Notice how bulky they become after cooked? That's why The easiest method is to use an online tool like cronometer.com. You can measure food by cups (check the standard cup unit), or by grams for which you need a culinary weight scale. Cronometer allows you to use both. Smaller foods like seeds are best measure by spoon sizes (tablespoon, teaspoon etc..) these can be purchased online to get the adequate measure. One final note I am going to make is that macro counting unless you are diabetic or undergoing some sort of body transformation program is usually pointless , becomes obsessive and makes people neurotic. It is good to self-calibrate but don't allow it to become an obsession. Rather see how you feel. If you are gaining weight and feel sluggish, reduce food intake. If you are tired and libido is low, add more food.
  6. Probably in general but I don't notice people on the streets as much as those in services. Interesting exercise, I might try doing this. Participating probably leads to more people being drawn to these jobs in search of income and survival but that leaves them with no time to self-reflect and do any personal development work. At the same time my purchases allow them to have decent life perhaps? Its the catch 22 and I don't have an answer to that. Thank you for your input thou, it delivers a good perspective! Very enlightening as always thank you! Intellectually I know letting go is the answer but I struggle with that big time and easily get attached to things allowing them to deplete my energy. I will work on being more mindful whenever I am doing this, that's probably a good first step. Cheers !!
  7. I recall you raising some post about struggling with direction in life some time ago, happy things are starting to move the right direction. Love this. Well done and keep it up mate !!
  8. I think you need to start by working with your own weight to get more comfortable in your skin and for your body to get accustomed to moving itself around in ways it hasn't before. In gyms you see guys who can bench 180 kilos yet they can hardly do 5 pullups. To me that's a weak man who has just covered himself in some fake and useless muscle. You may consider doing some calisthenics, sprinting, ladder drills, handstands. obstacle runs, trx, gymnastic rings and all sorts of plyometric exercises that involve a lot of jumping..etc. You may also try something called primal movement, which is a mind-body coordination practice. These will help you achieve a functional strength, you joints and muscles will learn to work like an orchestra rather than bunch of isolated parts which is what bodybuilding does to you. At the same time you gain some muscle that will be 100% efficient and usable. Once you feel comfortable enough, add some kettlebells and some weights if you fancy. Regarding food, you don't have to eat like madman but you have to be in slight caloric surplus to gain weight. Gaining weight means taking the food, breaking it down into smallest units of glucose, fatty acids and amino acids and then adding them to your body weight either as fatty tissue or lean muscle tissue, this will entirely depend on the lifestyle, amount of stress you are in, your environment, your activity level and the balance of individual macro nutrients. Your body will only start doing that once your other basic metabolic needs are covered. Think 1.6g of protein per kilo of body weight as protein will be your main driver of adding lean body mass (not fat). And than make sure your vitamin in mineral intake is optimal as they often serve as co-factors in various metabolic processes and energy production,.
  9. ^ this is the best advice a beginner can get.
  10. Opinions online don't matter. Test it for yourself and see what happens
  11. of course, whenever possible natural is the way to go in such case hypericum is amazing. And actually SSRIs are not really any better for mild depression than the herb so it was a good choice I'd say.
  12. @Nickyy no personal attack here just wanted to add a larger perspective to the topic before people start avoiding good foods such as spinach or beet out of fear. There is too much of that in nutrition already.
  13. By this thinking we would have to assume that only vegans develop kidney stones which is clearly not the case. 9% of US population was estimated to develop kidney stones in 2010, the number has probably gone up since then. Focusing on oxalates as primary causes of kidney stones is a very reductionist thinking. Yes there is a degree of dietary oxalates and increased risk of certain type of oxalate stones but the mechanism is more complicated than that. Oxalates have to be absorbed for them to cause damage otherwise they are excreted in poo by binding to calcium. (Any basic diet will give you enough to excrete those 10-20 mg of oxalic acid that you have accumulated). Calcium is regulated in the body by parathyroid and thyroid gland. In healthy body the homeostatic mechanism is extremely tightly controlled which should ensure that there is always a bit of calcium running down the digestive tract to mop up oxalates. Magnesium also has high affinity to oxalic acid and can help to bind it and excrete in poo. The paper you referenced (the full text ... not sure if you read the whole study) says that very limited amount of oxalalic acid is absorbed and excessive absorbtion probably means that there is an ongoing gut problem going on that is probably separating gut junctions such as IBD or leaky gut. Low vitamin D may contribute to calcium homeostasis dysregulation which is another contributor High supplemental intake of vitamin C has been linked to increased risk of oxalate stones High consumption of animal protein increases the risk. Low fibre slows down the intestinal transition and increases risk for higher rebsorbtion. If anything vegans have one of the highest intake of fibre on planet. At the same time I am going to agree that we shouldn't push our boundaries and load ourtselves with 10 cups of spinach a day but a reasonable amount is not an issue at all and if an issue occurs, other aspects need to be investigated.
  14. Just finished reading this book and it is such an eye opener into a human psyche !! Thanks again for recomms
  15. Please be extremely careful when taking St.John's Wort if already on antidepressants!! Tricyclic or SSRIs doesn't matter. You may end up with serotonin syndrome, become delusional even suicidal. Agreed that SJW is a beautiful replacement of medication but once you are on them, never take SJW or 5-HTP

  18. When climbing Mt Everest, the expeditions are usually returning to the same point several times to adapt to rapid changes of oxygen concentration. From each base camp they climb several times just to come back again. (at least this is what they had to do in the past) ...my point is that your transition should be the same. As guys advised, never go cold turkey. Start by increasing your fibre intake up to 50g/day. Start adding more plants while removing animals from your plates. Don't forget to chew a lot as plant fibre needs the mechanical processing as well as the carbohydrate-digesting amylase in your saliva. If you find yourself getting bloated, it is time to return to base camp. Reduce the plant fibre a bit and pace yourself slower. If you are fine, start increasing doses slowly. The greatest struggle will probably be legumes. Start adapting those slowly. A palm size a day split over few meals. You can soak them sprout instead of buying canned to make them easier to digest. It's all about adapting your microbiota and breeding more of the strains that will help you process fibre better. This may take couple weeks but the reward will be incredible bowel movement and cleaner gut then ever. If you are going in it for a long term, you may need to consider a B12 ( cyanocobalamin or methylocobalamin ) and DHA (algae oil) supplement. Vitamin D3 if you live in cold climate with limited sun as well. And finally don't forget to eat enough. If you feel week or if your libido starts dropping either reduce the amount of exercise while you adapt or increase your portion sizes. Books: Brenda Davis is a dietitian and a strong advocate of veganism. She is in her late 50s and looks fabulous. I would check out her book https://www.amazon.co.uk/Becoming-Vegan-Comprehensive-Reference-Plant-based/dp/1570672970/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=brenda+davis+diet&qid=1573725776&sr=8-1 Michael Greger has a book called: "How Not to Die - Cookbook" -> this is my favourite plant based go-to book. https://www.amazon.co.uk/How-Not-Die-Cookbook-Recipes/dp/1529010810/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=michael+greger&qid=1573725873&sr=8-1 + I'd also subscribe to his Nutrition Facts youtube channel.

  20. interesting...didn't know about this.
  21. It certainly does but the effect is short lived and taxes your body in long term. You either become addicted or avoid it. It is hard to stay away from it once you have tasted its delicate taste and savoured the stimulating effects. It is equally difficult to just have it "every once in a while", the drive to caffeinate oneself is just too powerful...its like another level of horny
  22. There is too much environmental pushback against these and it is very likely we will see dramatic reduction or a change in the way these companies operate. The habitat destruction is just too obvious. The next big hit will be every big city operating a space shuttle launching platform sending 20 shuttles a day for commercial flights to space. Boy, we better be ready for the crap those will be releasing. Orange will always find a way don't you worry child
  23. Unless you suffer from hemochromatosis or supplementing high doses of iron, I can't imagine spinach and broccoli giving you overload unfortunatelly iron-deficiency and/or ID anaemia is a common sign of badly managed animal-free diet.
