@PhilipAgain, i never said he should watch TV, that watchin TV was good or that it was good to be with his family watching it. All i said was that sitting for 1 hour or so 2 or 3 times a week while his family is watching TV will not interfere neither positively or negatively with anything except maybe shutting them up. I dont feel poisoned by TV and my wife watch it all the time. She thinks i am watching it with her but im not. Im not entertained or influenced by TV because i find it as apealing as bird poop about 95% of the time. I couldnt care less about christmas yet my family reunite and i talk to them and they are happy doing their thing. I wrote what i wrote because i sensed he was giving too much imprtance to the TV, his family and most of all himself. Just like he couldnt care less about TV (which he doesnt otherwise he would be able to shut it down in thought), he must accept some people dont and never will care about what they are or where they are going as long as they feel entertained. "My family pressures me to watch TV with them" is nothing. Useless to go in any other direction before understanding this.Pretend to watch a little TV now and then, meditate while you do it and avoid an ego battle with family was all i said. He can pretend to fall asleep, pretend he is reding a book next to them, look at the furniture or the ceiling for a while then kiss them goodbye and they will leave him alone. No big deal.

@Maximillien If you cant ignore TV images and sounds it is because you are interested in them. Close to none of the stuff on Tv is interesting to me. Not the news, films, sports, commercials, none of it so it takes no effort to just be there as if anywhere else.Sit on a bench in a street and notice how much you can ignore. Why cant you ignore the TV? Start by meditating on that while you sit in front of it. That is a suggestion and a thought only. Good luck

@Maximillien Who told you doing certain things is against self actualization (whatever that is)? I guess children who are forced to work hard since a very young age can never be self actualized (whatever that is). Or people who are too poor to have a computer will never grow to be as "actualized" as you? think about it. Think about how many uneducated people are so wise.
-
@MaximillienAnd im telling you that as long as you think that spending 2 or 3 hour a week sitting with your family (forget they are watching TV) stops you from anything, you will not grow up. I understood everything you said. Tell you a secret....i never watch TV yet everybody thinks i do.

@Maximillien One day you will look back and realize how unimportant of an event is your family complaining you dont watch TV with them anymore. You will look back and think "why did it take me so long to see this". Believe me. It has nothing to do with being with or pleasing your family being good or bad. It is just that watching videos in your room or spending time with them in front of the TV will have the same results in the long run if you think one is better than the other. This said, you can either be with them or not, but never because you think you are better than it.If you want to grow into the kind of body who is not affected by his surroundings too much, you better practice than watch videos.

"Before you can constructively guide others you have to have the experience of self realization, otherwise it just becomes, opinions, theory, speculation, assumptions, rationalizations, intellectualizations that only lead to more entrapment. Save yourself, others will have to do the same, no once can do it for them." This was exactly my answer to the question. Sitting with his family while his family watch TV is no big deal. Before trying to influence other people thoughts he should be aware of the fact that he is unable to keep his family company while they watch TV yet he complains his family doesnt follow him in his personal quest (implying that his thoughts motivations etc are superior). Unless he and you understand you are not above anything you can watch all the videos, read all the books and do all kinds of meditations and hallucinations you want without ever tasting freedom.

Just sit with them. How can you feel you are wasting time by sitting with them? forget the TV and videos. Things are as important as you think. Stop making a big deal out of your interests and thoughts because they are worth as much as the thoughts of people contemplating a TV screen. The day somene asks you for your thoughts you are entitled to share.

@Isle of View Are you an upset alignment of other people quotes and questions? No you are not.Take it as a compliment when someone tells you you dont exist because it would be sad for such confused entities to exist.- 17 replies

@SaynotoKlaus Do the money thing and draw in spare time. Better than drawing and being hungry. No fun to draw on empty stomach either.

@Augustin Go and "watch" TV with them. What is your problem with sittiing next to them quietly as they watch TV? My wife wants me to watch tv with her and i always do.I just sit there and look at it. To me it is the same as being anywhere else. The fact you are there doesnt mean you have to pay attention to it,

@cetus56 Suggestions are bananas. You digest them and then need more. World is full of suggestions. It was suggestions that brought you where you are now. Do you really need more suggestions? do you really need to think about them creating even more thoughts, struggling to distinguish good from bad suggestions all your life....always feeding that monkey you talk about?- 17 replies

@fdrakely Google it and you will find that absolute silence will drive you mad in minutes. You will hear your blood flowing and heart pumping....not a pleasant sensation at all.Outside those chambers there is never absolute silence anywhere. Even inside those chambers there is no silence because you will hear your body. You hear something all the time anywhere you go, as long as you live -

@Deutsche22 Sharing pure behaviour is more powerfull than sharing words. -
@Flower You forgot to mention the "positives" (what you think is good) in that relationship.
-
@Flower Fasting and reducing carbs. No other way to stop other than stopping. Your body will eventually adapt and the cravings will stop but it will take time...sometimes even months of cravings and suffering. If it was easy everybody would do it. I speak from experience,

@Deutsche22 They do not think you are insane and mock you. They are just sharing their thoughts with you. You want to share your thoughts with others, remember, share not convince them. Not getting upset with conflict. -

There is no difference in being catholic, atheist or doing enlightenment work. -
@Elton time to start doing what you think you want instead of what you think others think of what you think.

You think you "don't have a very clear vision for my life nor a well-defined life purpose" but that is as valid as thinking you do.Most people who think they have a well defined life purpose and a clear vision for their life are exactly in the same place you are. Now you have nobody and wish for someone, tomorrow you have somebody and wish for someone else...this is where thinking too much will lead you, believe me.Enjoy solitude by thinking it is good and stop thinking about other people thoughts because they are not yours to care for (unless they put food in your plate). Awkward is your illusion, control it. I traveled alone a lot and it never bothered me so it shouldt bother you too because you are only as different from me as you want to be.
