I 100% agree - the quality of women in both USA and UK is as low as it gets. The guys who say otherwise clearly have not traveled much outside of US. Not to mention that living in US would be 2-5x more expensive.

The problem here is that there are only 2 candidates available to choose from for the election day. The 2 party system is just so fucked, that some people don't have a choice but to vote for Trump, simply because the other choice is just not any better either in their eyes. Would be much better if there was like 4-5 candidates available from 4-5 different parties, similar to how you have it in Europe. -
https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/telegram-messaging-app-ceo-pavel-durov-arrested-france-tf1-tv-says-2024-08-24/ The charges are rumored to be support for terrorism, drug trafficking, complicity in crimes, mass fraud, money laundering, concealment, pedophile content, and more. He refused the demands on French government and didn't censor his platform - now they got him. Funny enough he left Russia as government also wanted access to all users but he refused, but ironically now the Western government has arrested him. Looks like they are really targeting those who stand up for free speech and privacy. Is Elon Musk next? Edit: The French Prosecutors had a press release today: https://www.tribunal-de-paris.justice.fr/sites/default/files/2024-08/2024-08-26 - CP TELEGRAM .pdf Pavel Durov is facing these 12 charges: 1)Complicity in the administration of an online platform to enable illegal transactions. 2)Refusal to provide information upon requests from authorized bodies. 3)Complicity in possession of pornographic images of minors. 4)Complicity in the distribution of pornographic images of minors by an organized group. 5)Complicity in drug distribution. 6)Complicity in the distribution of hacker programs. 7)Complicity in fraud committed by an organized group. 8)Creation of an organized group for the purpose of committing crimes punishable by imprisonment for a term of at least five years. 9)Laundering of money obtained as a result of the activities of an organized criminal group. 10)Provision of cryptographic services aimed at ensuring confidentiality, without mandatory declaration. 11)Illegal provision of cryptography beyond what is necessary to ensure confidentiality. 12)Illegal import of cryptographic tools beyond those necessary to ensure confidentiality.

@Leo Gura i was not comparing France to China - it was a response to Nemra. The Durov case is a very absurd one that can set a major precedent. I think out of all the people you should understand this. @Nemra No, the point is that there they decide who has it and who doesn't. -

If you rather live in a country like China, that is your choice. There it's not a given. -

Who are you to decide who needs or it who doesn't? Same goes for privacy. As Durov said, Telegram is either secure or not secure for everyone - you can't have the app secure for certain people and not for others. -

Wow, even the progressives in this video like Krystal Ball here mentioned that this is concerning if you care about privacy/free speech. What I don't understand, is why do so many left leaning people stopped caring about this issue? It shouldn't be left/right issue, it should be a common value that we all care about, no matter the political spectrum that you belong on. -

I have explored - you cannot expect to have everything removed instantly at the tip of the finger. No, it's important for every person who values privacy, freedom of speech and doesn't take it for granted . I don't think you understand the seriousness of this. -

The public stuff is already being moderated, Telegram has already deleted a lot of the stuff upon requests. What authorities are demanding, is access to private messages/chats of certain users, which Durov is not willing to give. He refused to give in to the same demands of Russian government with VK and Telegram, that's why he had to leave Russia. In the big picture this is a battle of privacy/free speech and will be a huge precedent going forward. -

This case will be a huge precedent with how other governments will act in the future. The logic is also beyond absurd as well with these charges - Those same criminals also use phones, cars, etc. Should they then arrest the CEOs of Apple, Google, of BMW, etc as well? -

Here is what Snowden said: "The arrest of Durov is an assault on the basic human rights of speech and association. I am surprised and deeply saddened that Macron has descended to the level of taking hostages as a means for gaining access to private communications. It lowers not only France, but the world.." https://x.com/Snowden/status/1827695836832334169 -

@Moutushi Using the word fool is not named calling, this word is used quite often on this forum. Don't try to play the victim or the rule card with me, it won't work. -

For those that don't know, In 2018 Russia started to block Telegram, after Durov refused to give access to encrypted private messages to FSB. (federal security service) Their reasoning for getting access was exactly the same -it is being used by terrorists, etc. In actuality, they needed it so they could crack down on opposition and liberal leaning people. The guy could have stayed in Russia, worked with the authorities and been even richer - but he out of principle decided not to. In the West though, you got fools (or idiots) who call themselves "liberals", who don't understand how good they have it, that are ready to voluntarily give up their rights and freedoms - for which true liberals in countries like Russia fight for. -

Obviously not -

Fools like you don't value what they have, nor appreciate people who stand up for your right to privacy and free speech. Poor understanding of history is a big reason, other than the ignorance imo. What's funny, is that in countries like Russia and China, the governments do exactly what you want - censor, moderate and prosecute people by having full access to private messages of the messengers. And that's why Durov escaped Russia so he doesn't have to deal with that BS. You would be the first one crying about this if you were to live in Russia or China. -

It's the private messages that they wanted to get access to. Public chats on there do get moderation and get deleted quite frequently: including for terrorism, etc, that was even on the news. In fact, it's nothing new, in 2016 they asked him the same question regarding of the encryption and how it can help terrorists, and this was his answer: It's either secure for everyone or not - it can't be secure for everyone but not for terrorists. -

The problem is that this forum already for quite some time now has become an echo chamber for left wing ideology + group think and a large part of this was Leo's contribution. Lately he changed his tone a bit, but it's a bit too late. A place like this instead should promote balanced perspectives, looking at all the pros, cons, and the person who calls himself the most conscious person in the world for sure should not take sides, and offer balanced perspectives instead. Leo's response to this was not surprising for those who are aware of what I wrote above -

I would say both. It made it easier to understand the people and also to understand who I want to be connected with, but harder in a sense that the pool of people that I want to be connected with has shrunk. During the phase it was much harder to be social, now that I am out of it it is not difficult at all and I find that I enjoy it. Overall I would say for sure that it had a positive impact. -

100% agreed, he would for sure not keep saying that a woman is a social construct if he was actually aware. -

People who are different from you are also those who think different, and have different opinions, no? Or is to you the only difference lies in the skin color of the person or their gender? What it clearly shows, is that you actually have no idea what truly means to be "tolerant", "inclusive" and "non-judgmental". Elon Musk is nowhere close to a "bigot" and a "bully" . That is your own subjective opinion and a projection, which has nothing to do with reality. -
questionreality replied to Bobby_2021's topic in Society, Politics, Government, Environment, Current Events
You nailed it. At the end of the day, the entire thing that you call "life" is a construct. If one were to deconstruct the entire reality, you probably wouldn't be able to function as you do now. Many constructions hence serve practical purpose and are obviously needed for human life. -
questionreality replied to Something Funny's topic in Society, Politics, Government, Environment, Current Events
It wasn't assumptions, here you confirmed once again that I was right. So you want to go the whataboutism route? This last post of mine was not even directed at you, but here you decided to start some shit? Stop pointing fingers at other people and take the damn responsibility. Yes indeed right is also guilty of virtue signaling, but left specifically promotes the values of being tolerant, non-judgmental and inclusive. Right doesn't do that, so you don't expect from the right to be those things. The left is the same as the right in that regard (judgmental, and only tolerant when it wants to be), but the difference is that the left pretends to be those things, when it's actually not. Then you don't really know the left or your own SJW types. They constantly try to pretend that they have the moral high ground and accuses others of being judgmental - you are blind to this, because you yourself are part of the bubble. -
questionreality replied to Something Funny's topic in Society, Politics, Government, Environment, Current Events
No, the "faults" that you perceive a lot of the time are your own projections - because you assume a lot without knowing the person, exactly what you accuse the right of doing. And judgements are judgements - it doesn't really change much. At least the the right doesn't virtue signal and pretend to be something that it's not - while the left pretends to be non judgmental , and is actually fake - because it's just a mask.
