For example, I'm really interested in how the narco world operates (yes, perhaps this is immaturity on my part- but that's besides the point for now). But I just can't bring myself to watch the entire Narcos Netflix series. I got to the end of the third episode and I was done. I've read countless books / documentaries on the narco related stuff- from the underpinnings of the economics of the drugs game to the history of military dictatorships in Brazil. These easily gripped me from start to finish. The strange thing is your average Joe would binge on Narcos Netflix, but wouldn't think about reading some of the books I've read. I just find TV shows tedious- anyone else feel the same?

Does anybody else find it really tough to sit through TV shows (and some movies), even if it's about something you're interested in? I would much rather just watch a documentary or read a book about the topic, than watch a show that is based on it. I think this may be to do with how INTPs process information. Textual information is much easier to process than visual for me.

@numbersinarow If you want to learn about non-violent communication, a high quality in depth 3 hour video is a gift.

There are many good reasons to live in Latin America- in fact there's been a pretty big exodus from the USA since 2020, and Latin America is US expat's top destination. The pros are pretty obvious- good weather year round in many parts, cheaper cost of living, more insulation from global geopolitical conflicts, pretty girls (and a likely higher relative SMV than you have in the West), areas of incredible natural beauty and amazing beaches. The big downside is security- low(er) trust cultures, crime and an ever present threat of physical violence are pretty much the case for the whole region. This undoubtably will lead to issues moving up the spiral dynamics stages into green and beyond. Lower levels of education will mean much more difficulty finding others to discuss highly intellectual ideas than in the US. It's a move that's very inline with the concept of having more life experience that Leo dedicated an episode to a while back. Anybody else considering a move to Latin America? Why or why not? Interested to hear your thoughts. Pictured below is a beach in Baja California Sur, Mexico

@DocWatts You're right- some may be able to handle games better than others. I may be the latter

I find the obsession with achievement hunting and game lore to be quite repulsive too. These are virtual realities. Why would you obsess over them when actual reality is infinitely more complex and beautiful? In my opinion, it has to come from escapism.

The real issue is none of us have the time to invest into gaming if we're really taking our living into our passions and lives to the fullest extent. Moderation (say 30 minutes a day) isn't realistic for many gamers, it will quickly lead to more gaming and more mental bandwidth being taken up outside the game. I have a deep philosophical problem too with investing time and energy into virtual realities- it seems to always, no matter how innocuous it seems on the surface, come at the expense of your investment into reality and your own life.

@Fountainbleu your fist mistake was taking any claim made my Andrew Tate as oriented towards truth... Last year he was saying you have to get rich right now by buying his course
-
@Leo Gura But of course, in the long term the opposite is true

@DocWatts nice breakdown, thanks for sharing

The biggest trap to look out for is waiting to arrive in the US to start living your life. Remember, wherever you are, there you are. Good luck youngster!

Great example of an indie game dev who just dropped a great game:
-
@Rafael Thundercat Is it? I'm interested in discussing psychology of gamers, not the actual games they play.

Being as brutally realistic as possible in assessing the global situation is probably best. Objective optimism is useful when applied to your own life in particular however.

Philosophies do not make anybody rich. What makes people rich is following a process which has the potential to make them rich. The results you seek are best obtained by taking your focus off the results and developing a focus on your process. If you treated the process of getting rich with the same intensity and immediacy that an elite athlete treats their sport, do you think you could get rich? In my opinion, this 'elite athlete' analogy is one of the best conceptualizations of healthy stage orange. Staying present to the moment and focussing on enjoying the process. Immersing yourself so much in the process that you almost forget about the results because you've found so much fulfilment in playing at your highest potential each and every day. It's very easy to lose the connection to the present and your immediate actions when you're stuck behind a computer screen alone. Easy to drift into fantasizing about the results you want, escaping into doom scrolling social media or video games. I'd encourage you to really think about what the real issue is here- I do not think you've found the root of the problem yet. Like most things, it's probably linked to avoiding emotional labour- which paradoxically leads to a much more painful life overall.

@Ramanujan What exactly does focussing on Mastery by George Leonard for 10 years look like?

I have to admit I do have a morbid fascination with cartels / narcos and find the desert landscapes really beautiful, so I am planning to take my next trip in Northern Mexico
-
@BlessedLion Sounds like a nice spot, I'll have to take a trip
-
@BlessedLion The problem is locals in Lake Atitlan / Mazunte are no way near stage green, only expats. This narrow view of the demographic is why stage green expats have the potential to be so irritating

It's interesting how technology can either promote presence, or it's opposite, numbness- depending on how it's used. Mindless social media scrolling or video games facilitate numbness. I think the endless buffet of stimulation allows the mind to go to sleep while being titillated passively by the contents of the screen. However, while researching, reading or working on some kind of project intentionally on a computer- you can be in presence. I think this is because the mind must be used in a proactive way, rather than being passively stimulated. If anybody has any input on this distinction, it would be appreciated. I think this is one subtle but important downside of video games.

@Raze do you have an example?

@Princess Arabia The point is you're asking other people to spoon feed you the kind of information that's best found yourself. There's a kind of information that's best found on forums, and there's a kind that's best found on Google. This is an example of the latter.
-
@Princess Arabia No problem. It generally works better than asking strangers on internet forums.
