David, thanks for sharing your experience. Not completely finished viewing the video, but I can relate to a couple things you've shared...
- Occasionally, I find it both disheartening and rewarding identifying areas for growth.
- I find it challenging to consistently implement solutions to these challenges.
The approach I'm currently trying out to get into the frame of mind where I am enjoying the process of personal growth more include:
- Be kind to self (It's surprising how hard we can be on ourselves, yet be kind to others. I sometimes ask myself what it is I am experiencing, what I need for it to be better, then positive self talk myself)
- Get out of problem solving mode (If I am relaxed, curious and friendly with a challenge, I tend to work through the specific challenge better. Peers also seem more inclined to help.)
- Get out of fight or flight mode (Unless there is an imminent need to act, creating space between stimulus and my response allows me time to think and act appropriately)
- Finally, I chat about challenges with my support network. Sometimes I think I am seeking their reassurance that things will be okay, other times advice as to how they might work through a similar challenge.
Thanks again for sharing your experience and for an opportunity to respond.
