Reading things like this in your post, is for me a distancing and ironically lacking the empathy you're criticising. In the olden days, music was used to unify and sent a message across, was it through a vibe or a statement. 60's Hippie/flower power 70's Prog Rock 80's/90's Hip-Hop/Rap/Pop (certain songs) Nowadays it seems social media (and memes) have taken its place. The problem of social media is, it's fast it's an algorithmic overload, you can have a post that sends a message and triggers you and 2 seconds later you scroll to the next one when your emotion is replaced with another. Growing up with this music, it shaped me and it sticks. Social media does not stick, it's not intended to stick, it's intended to get you to the next one. Is music still a medium for mass change, or does it have the same faith as books? Only for certain niche groups.

If you are talking about creating wealth and maximising profit and consumption I would say yes. Don't underestimate the ambition it takes to create a society where the most people benefit not only a select few like in the US. A lot of people had to fight (in the Netherlands in the 70's and 80's) for more equal rights. It was not born naturally. Orange ambition vs Green ambition is still ambition.

It's not about the genres perse. People wanted to distribute a message, the popular genres at that time have the most reach. The genres themselves were used for superficial crap too, just like today.

I can see in the current US political and commercial climate that would be a good incentive. It's so out of control now there that spending more money towards good government system can safe money (ironically) and create better lives for the people. I don't think that will fly for the Dutch system, yes there is lobbying going on in the Netherlands, not blind to that, but it's such a low level compared to the US that those extreme measures will not work and probably not accepted. I hope the US can sort it's problems, let's see what happens at the preliminaries in November.

@oOo Thank you it's an interesting read. One thing we didn't talk about yet, that before social media you had the record companies pushing for commercialisation of the music industry. At first you had the push back from the artists but now the new generation, commercialisation is baked into their identity. Famously the band Talk Talk is famous for trying to rebel. After their success with "Such a Shame" and "Life is what you make it". They wanted to create a more pure and experimental album (I think it's called the "The spirit of Eden") This was so non-commercial the record label tried to sue them, the record label lost. But from then on in every contract that an artist signed with an record label there is a clause that there must be an commercial intention when creating music. So it's in every contract to make music with commercial intent. @oOo I'm really interested in your new idea. @Leo Gura The Dutch president (basically CEO of a country) salary is set to 211k Euro (244k USD). They're income (and side income) are open and there are strict checks in place to make sure it's not exceeded through side income. This rule is basically set for all people in the government. This creates the side effect that it's hard to get good talent into government because the commercial industries offer better paychecks. But for years in the Netherlands people are talking about limiting salaries and pay-out bonuses to CEO's. Especially after big scandals come into the news of CEO's abusing the system for personal gain. But there is no real incentive to really push through with the salary cap.

I swallow some D3+K2 tablets to compensate for the lack of D3 being generated by natural sunlight. - Magnesium can be overdosed and body and brain fatigue can be one of the symptoms. The blood test can point this out. Be careful experimenting willy nilly with supplements, don't get your advise from influencers. In the Netherlands the water companies (sometimes) add nutrients like Calcium, Natrium and Magnesium to tap water. So that makes it more healthy, it's also clean but nowadays there is a concern about microplastics and remnant medicine traces. Do some research (beyond influencers) to see if you want to stick to tap water or you want to filter your water. If you are going to filter your water, you can use a simple water filter can. You can also use RO (Reverse Osmosis), you can have good ones, or the ones they use where I usually live in the Philippines they filter everything is filtered out including the good nutrients. So I have to reintroduce these nutrients again, but this is not necessary with standard water in the Netherlands (unless filtered with RO) I have been told at HEMA you can dried tea herbs for a decent price. Use a tea strainer/diffuser and you don't have to worry about microplastic tea bags anymore. Better for you better for the environment. I realised that a change of climate towards a more tropical and more humid (yes I prefer more humid as an aquaman :)) works best for me. Not much to explain. Yes they respected and worshipped animals. Don't romanticise indigenous tribes too much. Ritualistic offerings where done out of respect for animals, it depends on your perspective if you want to see this as respect or cruel. But how did they treat humans from different tribes? A lot of wars going on between tribes.

Trust me I know the reasoning behind this on an intellectual, emotional and spiritual level. It is a big part why I turned vegetarian 14 years ago. Not wanting to go back. It increases empathy towards beings that suffer yes. It did that for me. But this text is too much hippie. It does not take into account real life, and is just utopian dreaming. It's text book green, not saying it is wrong but it is flawed. Just pointing out the flaws not saying it's inherently wrong. And there might be more people then you think that have no good access to plants and crop alternatives. Some of it can be substituted yes animal farming for vegetarian options, but those people think of survival. You can't expect someone is who is fighting for physical survival everyday for self and family to think about animal welfare. This is green bypassing again, and I have seen this many times first hand in (Western) non profits. Trying to address animal welfare without addressing physical survival. The act of thinking about animal welfare and spiritual wholeness does not compute for someone who is thinking about survival. If you are thinking about this, congratulations you are in the top 5% of the world and probably have surpassed physical survival for the most part.

The dog nappers want good fed and special breed dogs, usually strays don't make that much money. So they target the high value ones. Yes, it's quite common to feed the stray animals, they will keep cats and dogs as pets. The general rule is, if the animal has a collar then it's owned by someone. They generally can love their pet on the same level as in the West. The difference (and this also still can happen in the Europe/ the West) they see cats and dogs separate from animals that feed them. A cow, pig or chicken is less conscious then a cat or a dog, it's a way of protecting the hypocrisy thinking that is going on. Asia is a big place with different cultures so it can vary per culture and of course when talking about culture there will be individual exceptions. When I was living in Cambodia my gf's dog was stolen, which happens quite a lot, exported to places like Vietnam where they eat dogs. It's a different world here, as animal lover it can be quite challenging to see how they are treated here. I have pigs seen kicked and heard their throat being cut, and screaming slowly quiets down. In the Philippines roasted pig (Lechon) is a national celebration dish during Christmas or Easter. Lots of them are being bred, come into the island a few weeks before the celebration and killed on the day. Every time I walk past them I'm thinking only xx days of living for you my friend. How a nation/culture treats their fellow human and animals is a direct indication of their consciousness development. When I visit a new country it's one of the first things I research to get an indication of their development level.
