I find it crazy how the age of consent is all over the place. Many of these states that set it at 16 make it unrestricted. That means one is deemed able to consent to having sex with anyone else at or above the age of consent. (See “Summary” section in the Wikipedia). I think a good compromise would be to set an age of consent federal law to 17. I say 17 because the DSM-5 requires that a person must be at least 16 years old, and at least five years for the attraction to be diagnosed as pedophilic disorder.

But it’s good to prioritize contemplating which ideas are most meaningful, and discard ones that are fruitless. I was abused by my first teacher, during kindergarten (I skipped pre-k due to developmental issues). Shit scarred me for a long ass time, and still has lingering consequences to this day. (not sexually abused, but abuse of power)
