I don't know about the wider UK but England is so conservative. I do understand the frustration, especially since you are black.

Of course the right act like idiots. That is to be expected. Its more problematic when the left doesn't do a good job of reaching out to the disenfranchised. Its the left that will be able to provide solutions to systemic issues that plague a country. Identity politics is a red herring in most cases. All this focus on racism is missing the point of a poorly run country. Nobody is rioting if they have money.

Bottom line is that they are not going to do it themselves. The left needs to do more than simply press their message harder. they need to appeal to average folk by embracing nationalism and traditional British values. Stop demonizing and alienating people with polarizing identity politics. Identity politics is ruining the left. But ultimately, the general populace is responsible for their political outcome whether or not they take that responsibility to heart. They'll have to learn the hard way if they want to vote stupid. And when it comes to racism and xenophobia, well England has always been highly traditional and ethnocentric. That's not really going to change any time soon. But progress in terms of tolerance has been astounding since after WW2. Your upset that England is not England in a 100 years from now essentially. And keep in mind, even if you are minority, if you live in a modern 1st world country you have it pretty good in general.

You need to take responsibility for the racists, bigots and idiots in your country. The complexities of how conservative politics sold out their economy the last 15 years in more or less beyond them. There's too much blaming and not enough taking responsibility on the left. And the left has a higher standard for politics than the right.

Give each of these rioters a million pounds cash and they'll mosey off home, I promise. Might even marry and have kids, help solve the birthing crisis.

I'm guessing that Canada has a relatively good standard of living for the average person. If people where much poorer then xenophobia would probably be more prevalent in Canada. What a lot of you are missing when discussing racism is that a lot of it is driven by economic insecurity and an underfunded public education system.

Self-help to me is just repeating the general message that you can accomplish what you set your mind unto. Pick your flavor.

I'm not justifying rape morally. I'm merely trying to understand why it happens. The problem with trying to understand behavior via ethics is that morality is inherently a self-referential system that works relative to a species relative needs and levels of development. Rape is unethical today because its bad for modern survival. There are social consequences for rape and people normally are horrified by it. But at one point in human history, barbarians would be elated at the chance to rape women who weren't part of their tribe most importantly due to a lack of social consequence. It wouldn't be seen as bad. Ethics are relative and can't be trusted to fully understanding something. Just because something is bad doesn't mean it doesn't have a purpose if your willing to look. Incentive-based understanding explains what ethics pussy foots around due to social conventions.

The left needs to do a better job at connecting with the general populace. Right-wing propaganda works because its simpler for one. Its easier to blame brown people than complex economics. Its also easier for leftist to blame fascist than their poor influence on politics. There's too much focus on fringe issues that don't matter to the majority and not enough on the economy and survival. The right likes to tote that they are economically reasonable but it is really the opposite. 15 years of conservative government has shown that. Labour has already won this recent election but the left should hammer this home from now on and into the future, and in general, not just in the UK. The left needs to embrace nationalism/patriotism and adjust its language and become much better at dissuading fears. Be more approachable in general.

They voted but they still can't afford houses. Economics is too abstract and complex for many of these people.

I believe the cost of living crises and broadly poor economics are a significant factor behind this wave of protests. The 2011 London riots was also marked by poor economics. Poor economics combined with an anxious lower class can lead to outbursts. I believe these current protests are about more than just xenophobia.

The protests follow a mass stabbing incident at a Taylor Dance and yoga class for young girls 6-11 years old. 3 children died and 10 injured with 7 critically injured (5 children, 2 adults). Protests sparked when rumors initially spread that the boy was a Muslim migrant. The naming restriction on the media has been lifted since the suspect has been in court, 1st of August. The suspect is 17 year old Axel Muganwa Rudakubana, who was born in Wales to Rwandan parents. He is due to turn 18 August 7th (tomorrow as of writing) and is due for a hearing 18th october 2024 and a provisional trial set 20th January 2025. There are justified cases of rape in modern society, but it would be extremely rare. The fact that we stigmatize rape as bad is sign of our level of development. We don't need it to survive anymore. But at some point in your ancestry, rape is why you exist today. Rape is a function of survival and common in nature.

I think the reason why rape feels more heinous than murder to people is that it is especially upsetting to have ones sexual boundaries crossed for one, in addition to the sense of helplessness and injustice that accompanies rape. Finding justice for a murder is much more straightforward because of the objective evidence of a death compared to a rape, which is essentially he-said-she-said in most cases. A sense of injustice creates strong negative emotions. Killing can be just and justice is more straightforward to find. Therefor murder doesn't have the same emotional charge as rape. I can't think of any times where rape is just. The only way for us to mend injustice is by being better people. We realized that rape is a crime for a start.

In "No More Mr. Nice Guy" by Robert Glover, a Nice Guy is defined as someone who doesn't feel safe or acceptable to be who they are. Its a paradigm of hiding ones flaws and becoming what you think others want you to be. Being approval seeking of woman will tend to create resentment because they inevitably fail to respond how you want them to. I think the growing resentment guys have towards women online is at least partially due to inexperience and a sense of inadequacy.

Generally, rape is not worse than death. You can't heal from being dead. And people respond differently to sexual trauma. Some break while others just kind of get over it more or less. There even exist rare freaks out there who are into getting raped. Degenerates on both sides of the aisle. But there are different degrees of rape. Being raped to death is probably worse than just dying in a battle. When women kill themselves and their children in lieu of an impending loss they aren't afraid of being raped once by a single guy but getting raped repeatedly, enslaved and abused till they keel over dead. Have their tendons cut so they can't escape, etc. There's value in severe exploitation like rape and slavery for the exploiter in ways that can't be exercised on members of the in-group because it wouldn't be possible to have a functioning society otherwise.
