Hey guys, I’ve recently been watching videos on how immortality might be possible by uploading our minds. Apparently some scientists think it’s very possible. I’m curious what all of you’lls view is on this 1) do you think the uploading of mind and living forever is possible? 2) if so what would this mean for nonduality? I’ve heard teachers say that one of the main purposes of creation is re realize that you are god and not the ego. If we are able to upload our egos and become immortal would we become permanently separated from god? teachers like Rupert spira claim that all mental suffering is actually a result of us being disconnected from our true nature (ie-god). If ego immortality through mind uploading is possible wouldn’t this mean we would be in a permanent state of dissatisfaction due to being permanently separated from god.

@RMQualtrough I think the possibiltybof uploading only exists if you assume physicalism . Ie- consciousness is a product of the movements of atoms etc in the brain

Hello. Can someone tell me what leos meta ethical framework is please? If he hasnt explicitily stated what framework he mostly subscribes to(i couldnt find the answer in his videos), which category do you think his beliefs mesh best with? Is he a consequentialist? If so is he a 1) Utalitarian- believes that the maximizing of wellbeing for the most amount of sentient life is the goal Or a 2) ethical egoist-believes the maximizing of only leo guras well being is the goal? Since leo is a solipsist, and as stated in his videos , he believes that other avatars cannot really feel pleasure and pain. Doesnt it make most sense for him to be an ethical egoist? Or is he a deontologist(ethical theory that states that the morality of an action should be based on whether that action itself is right or wrong under a series of rules, rather than based on the consequences of the action)- after watching leos relativism and "what is goodness " videos i highly doubt leo is a deontologist I also dont think he is a virtue ethisict. What do you guys think he aligns mostly with? -Since he is a solipsist, if i had to bet i would say he is an ethical egoist. Id also love to know what meta ethical framework any of you mostly subsribe to

TLDR AT THE BOTTOM IF THE POST IS TOO LONG Hello. Can someone tell me how to distinguish between self love and selfishness please? In some cases im having a hard time differentiating the two For example 1) lets say there is a homeless man suffering in the harsh outdoors without any money, and who will probably die, who gets the oppurtunity to steal millions of dollars from others,destroying their families without any chance of being caught.If he does not steal the money he will probably have to work harsh dirty gritty thankless minimum wage jobs for a long time before he can even get off the streets. The self loving thing to do would be to destroy the families and steal the money right? - a more practical example would be a broke person mugging someone.lets say if he doesnt mug (and sometimes kill )people he"ll starve to death.should he be self loving and mug? TLDR-When faced with a situation where acting in your best interests (being self loving )causes harm to others what should you do? I have heard many spiritual teachers us to allways act jn a selfloving manner Eg-

Can you tell me what the poor man should do then? If he is poor and has to choose between working a minimum wage job he dislikes or just steal the money from other people what should he do? Isnt refraining from stealing being unloving towards himself

In the above situations the reason why one would be selfish is because it maximizes the wellbeing of others right?it goes full cirlce and becomes selflessness.i dont think you can call that selfishness as no one else is harmed. If the reason you engage in self help is to help others then you are being selfless and the others are being shortsighted. I am concerned about situations where being self loving comes at the harm of others.

My problem is the relativity of the situations. For example For instance if working a harsh,gritty,minimum wage job for some time is too emotionally difficult for the homeless man,and destroying a family is easier for him, should he be self loving and destroy thr family?isnt subjecting himself to have to work a minimum wage job when he can just steal the money being unloving towards himself?

No matter what you think someone thinks of you are doing is injecting yourself. The closest you will ever get to what someone thinks is when they explicitely tell you.but even then you cant be sure Eg- when a is told ily or D is told to visist often Or when i try to show im interested when there are other things i would like to do. Even though north Korea might not have a name for forcefully having sex with someone against there will,the action as well as the suffering that is a consequence of that actions still exists right? If someone abuses a baby,that baby might not know the term used to desribe what happened to the baby.but nevertheless the baby still felt the pain of the abuse right?

@mojsterr what good intentions can a rapist have? Isnt a rapists only intention to satisfy his own selfish needs regardless of the harm it does to others? How does one reconstrue it to have positive intentions?
