  1. That definitely true that animals with primitive emotions doesn't experience this at all. The notion of missing out is a pretty loaded one with lots of linguistic baggage behind it.
  2. In the Israel-Gaza war thread, someone mentioned that it is absurd to expect to have peace when you cannot even have peace on this forum. That is pretty deep if you think about it. When the most conscious individuals of a society cannot come together to have peace, on a random online forum, then that really tells you about the less developed state of the world. Conflict will always exist within humanity. I do not think it is going to transcend conflict as a whole. Conflict on the outside is always the reflection of the conflict on the inside. If you are conflicted within yourself you are going to seek conflict in the outer world, unconsciously. People are in conflict with themselves because of their rotten psychology. They are too immature, developmentally. As long as you operate in the domain of concepts and language, there will always be conflicts within you. That is just a function of language and constructs in general which needs conflicts and dualities to make sense. Only proper emotional mastery can get you out of the mind-numbing conflict that you experience.
  3. AI can aid you in helping with understanding. But is there any state of mind you could be in where you can make use of AI, even better and faster. Even if everyone has access to AI chatbots, not all of them are going to understand everything is it not?
  4. Let's take something definite like chess or cycling or trees. How do you approach that thing to understand it more and more. Is they are formula for increasing your understanding? How do you systematically increase your understanding of something extremely complicated like chess? One way is to jump into the it and experience it to the maximum and make sense of it as you go. But what should be the balance on contemplating and action/experience?
  5. IQ of >=130 (which is mostly genetics) and work your ass off.
  6. Existentially speaking, you cannot miss out on life since life is infinity, and you are exploring all possibilities in life. It is impossible to miss out on life. But as far as an individual ego is concerned, it can miss out on life on factors that are outside of its control. Maybe being born with shitty genetics or being born in a war-torn part of the world with poor opportunities or severely traumatic childhoods. I am just asking in general. Is it possible to miss out on life, either way? But it is not that simple, isn't it? How do you figure out what you really want to do? There are many things that you think you want to do has pretty bad consequences in your life. Those kids who play video games and being reddit mods online could be well wasting their precious teenage and 20s. But they have a difficulty in figuring out what exactly what they really want. They are deluded. So essentially, it is just about not caring. If you think you are missing out on life, you are and if you do not, you are not.
  7. > Living in maximum engagement with reality is somewhat stressful and joyful. It is half joy and half stress that comes from engagement with reality and some amount of suffering. > Not engaging with reality would relieve you of some suffering but reality will eventually demand more engagement from you. Does stress and suffering mean that you are missing out on life? What does engagement with reality even gets you? And is it worth suffering for?
  8. Let's go deeper. Many people do all this and never make any progress at all. Why? Being stuck in a rating range is surprisingly common in chess. They play chess their whole lives and be stuck under 1700 or some under 2100. What could be the reason? They do above and beyond all that you have mentioned. All these are good points. 1. Progress. 2. frequent feedback 3. doubling down on weak points Making even more finer distinctions within a domain. At one point the distinction becomes so smooth that it becomes impossible to find proper words in the English language. Then you have to make up your own web of constructs and personal labels or assign feelings for such distinctions. You might simply feel that you are in the "right" grip by feeling it. The definition of understanding is a declarative or implicit one. The problem is to quantify and somehow understand understanding itself. But understanding itself is not vague. Some people understand reality or a finite aspect better than other people. It is a simple fact. I was wondering what exactly is what differentiates them. Genetic ability plays into this but there is more to that.
  9. Watch the videos from this channel. You will appreciate it a lot. https://youtube.com/@ttsar
  10. To improve understanding fast: Full immersion in the thing that you are trying to gain experience in. Position yourself so that you can get more experience of that thing. Fear is falsehood and antithetical to Truth, experience and understanding. Fear is an immersion inhibitor. Label and compress things that you already know. Having a label means fast retrieval. You need to have a good memory. Sensitivity and compassion help you to immerse in something faster. Zoom into the thing and make finer distinctions of what you are learning more of. Also, it is better to be in touch with improving something for an extended period of time, if you want to improve at it. Have the right Expectations. This is cruical.
  11. Deep point. It is a grave mistake to jump into theory first when you are learning something new. Agreed. Labelling things immensely affects the speed at which you are able to retrieve information. Full immersion in something is such as amazing concept. Due to suppressed fear, I have observed that I am unable to fully immerse my self in something. That could add up to something. There has to be.
  12. I do not want to quantify or measure the understanding for the sake of comparison. But if you believe that understanding can be improved, then there are people with lower level of understanding of life in general or some niche aspect of life. And there are people who understand reality better than others. Magnus definitely had a better understanding of chess than Fischer for various reasons. The question is why do Magnus has a better understanding of chess? If you are saying ability, then there are certainly many people with the same level of ability compared to Magnus in this world. There has to be some meta level technique that magnus had used, on top of his exceptional genetics which had led to his higher understanding of chess. It could be that: He had less fear that others. He had more experience in chess than others. Others could not immerse in chess as much as Magnus. Messi with respect to football is another example. How come the understanding of Messi is so higher than others? What technique did he use? ----------------------------------------------------- Again, it cannot be entirely genetics. There are many people with exceptional genetics in this world. But some men are able to dominate others so ruthlessly. How come some people possess God level understanding of something. They were closer to the Truth in some way. What is that?
  13. ? There are infinite number of rooms in the hotel. Can every room be occupied? ?
  14. Gender is the sex of class of organisms, it's a social construction as much as sex is. Male and female refers to the sex of all animals. Man and woman is the male and female sex of humans. Cows and bulls are male and female sex of cattle. There is not that much of a difference between sex and gender. It refers to the same thing. Even I used to believe that sex and gender was fundamentally different. That's the lie purported by the gender ideology folks. Sex and biology is a social construct as much as gender is. Thet don't understand the nature of constructions.
  15. There are a lot of lies surrounding this conflict which is what makes it complicated.
  16. With regards to the thing in the video I do have a small problem. If the members have names that extends to infinity, then there should be atleast one member who doesn't not have a room. As explained by the diagonalization problem. Why not build an extra room and house them? Such a room need not be numbered even. Or it could be numbers as 0.1 or -1 or the name of the dude itself.
  17. The problem discussed in video is a different question. I am talking about empty rooms. The video is talking about if every person from the infinie bus gets a room. I don't refute anything said in the video. I am saying a different problem. Can you "exhaust" a countable infinity is my question? Will it be exhausted? Should it be exhausted? Like all infinites it spans on forever. So there are always more rooms. -------
  18. Me too. Pretty amusing to see all of us lined up on the same issue. Coding is too taxing on me. It's stressful but I can do it if I have to. Need something more holistic and broad. So I left my software job to focus on less codey type stuff. Cloud engineering is good IMO.
  19. If you are going to talk about morality then let's be very clear. Israel is the moral side and hamas terrorists are the degenerate side. Just pure detached analysis. Hamas literally uses hospitals as their HQ and urges civilians to stay there to use them as human sheild. They are least bothered about morality.
  20. That's not actual morality. They are using morality to gain an advantage and an excuse to further bomb and rape people. It's weaponized & corrupted & calculated morality. Whatever that helps them win the war is moral to them. (Especially from the palastine side. They are claiming to be the weaker side as if it is an excuse to keep firing missiles to a superior Israel.) The people on the ground is ruthlessly sketching out plans to wipe off their enemy. Morality is the last thing that crosses their mind. ---- If you take morality seriously, then you need to wait till you know the net damage from each sides and all the information.
  21. Let us come to terms with this. Wars have happened throughout history. There will be winners and losers in war. This is the way the issue will resolve itself. Moral virtue signaling is useless in this scenario. Morality is the last thing they care about in this scenario. Moralistic judgements could and should be made in retrospect. In this complicated situation. Stick with the facts. Try of compare and contrast with other facts if possible. ---------------- A possible ground invasion of Gaza is going to happen within the next 48 hours. They are building up their military for this.
  22. Good enough. Have to appear strong while delivering the message. Also, I do not think the average Muslims, nor their leaders take enough of a responsibility to condemn and distance themselves from these attacks. They lowkey ignore it and some think they are even justified. That would have made the situation easier to handle. I do not think that most people have a problem with civilian Palastines either. It is the hamas terrorist group that is causing all the problems, and they do this on behalf of the innocent civilians who might not even agree with all this.
  23. What do you think was the objectively correct yellow level response to 9/11? Do nothing??
  24. Even most Indian coming from well to do families are unaware of this. The majority of the Indian population in the states of UP and Bihar are in late-stage purple at best. There are 350 million people living in these two states that are so unimaginably backward. Kidnapping, lynching are common stories in these areas. It will be a huge achievement to get them to stage blue IMO.
