  1. How the hell is a politician suppose to treat these environments the exact same when they behave completely different?
  2. That's what I was thinking to. I am asking this question to because I want to become a politician. How is a politician suppose to treat both of these environments the same when one is more better for human flourishing than the other. It seems hard to treat these environments the exact same when they operate completely differently.
  3. I wanted to make one final post on being able to help all victims of crimes even people I feel are wrong or bad. I felt like in my other two posts I wasn't specific enough on what I meant by bad people. I wanted to get very clear on what I meant. Also, I wanted to see if there was any final advice or tips someone could give me on the only issue I am facing pursuing a career in politics. A bad victim to me would be someone that intentionally mistreats others with there words and verbally abuses them or physically abuses them. Also, a jealous boyfriend who displays jealous, controlling, psycho behaviors when he is at the bar with his girlfriend. Like if any guy even gets near her or he sees her talking to them he gets very controlling and confrontational. This guy actually comes close to or is ready to fight with people who get near his girlfriend or talk to her. This guy is starting a fight or is willing to start one because he is controlling over his girlfriend. I have personally met a couple of bad men like this in bars who have tried to or were looking to start fights with me over their girlfriends. Also, verbally abusive people at the bad high school I went to. I would consider these people as bad victims for sure and I wouldn’t feel as successful helping them. Now if these jealous boyfriends who start fights with men at the bar and these verbally abusive people were in a different situation and became the victims of a major crime like a mass shooting, terrorist attack, etc. How am I suppose to help these people successfully like I would other good victims? Even though they didn’t deserve to have what happened to them I still would consider them bad victims because of their past behavior. I wouldn’t feel successful helping them as I would people that were actually good victims. Also, bad victims would also be murders, rapist, robbers and terrorist to me as well. I wouldn’t feel as successful helping these people as good victims to. How can I help these controlling jealous psycho boyfriends and verbally abusive people as well as criminals when they become the victims of crimes just like other good victims? Some of the tips I have gotten are below. 1. Focus on what you can control. Realize there is no such thing as a bad victim you are choosing between the lesser of the two evils. 2. Rise above good and bad and realize you serve all your constituents. Once you rise above good and bad you will cease to become a politician and be a leader. Rise above good and bad and lead. 3. Advocate for all victims and if someone of them are bad I would have just made an honest mistake. Go towards the issue not run away from it. 4. Just call them people don't call them good or bad. There are more tips and advice I have received as well those are just some. Does anyone have any other final advice or tips that you could recommend on this issue?
  4. @Thought Art Do you have any books to recommend?
  5. I eventually want to become a politician. I am wondering how I can work on my empathy for bad victims of crimes. I have empathy for good people but for bad people I lack it. I find it hard to have empathy for people whose actions I disagree with such as a jealous psyho boyfriend or other people's actions and morals I disagree with and don't like. I am wondering how I can work on having empathy for bad victims of crimes. I am wondering how I can develop empathy for people I feel are bad people who have been in horrible crimes politicians deal with whether that be a mass shooting, terrorist attack etc. I have empathy for good people but for bad people I lack it. Also, how can I stop thinking about the worthiness of bad victims to obtain justice. I have a backwards way of thinking about large crimes which is the worthiness of bad victims to obtain justice how can I stop this backwards way of thinking?
  6. @hyruga do you really think that will help?
  7. I would like to know if anyone can actually solve the only problem that I am having with pursuing the career that I want to go into which is politics. I have done my research and out of 36 different areas of politics I do find all of them meaningful and I am passionate about them. However their is only one of those areas which is an issue for me which is judging victims of crimes that I do not know or have never met and I would like to know how I can stop doing this? When I only look at the crime that has taken place and the number of victims. I am passionate and I find it meaningful to make sure that the proper punishment is given whether that is a life sentence or the death penalty. However when I start to think about each of the victims in these situations more deeply I start to doubt myself and think that maybe some of the victims were actually bad people. Once I start to judge the victims then my passion and meaning fade away because I start to feel like I might be helping someone who I would consider a bad person. Like I said I don't know any of the victims and I have never met any of them but when my mind starts to judge them I begin to feel like I might be helping the wrong people. I would like to know how I can stop judging victims I have never met and I don't know? How can I just look at the crime and the number of victims and think about the proper punishment without judging the victims? Like I said when I don't judge anyone and I just look at the crime and the number of victims I do find it meaningful and I am passionate about making sure the proper punishment is given. However it is only when judgement comes in that it gets confusing and messed up. How can I stop the judgment and just focus on the crime and punishment?
  8. @aurum I agree Your right I do have the guts to actually handle these situations and figure out what the proper punishment should be. Yeah I want to be the politician not the one cleaning offices for a politician. I get what your saying I can advocate for all victims of mass shootings and if some of them happen to be bad people then I would have just made an honest mistake that I couldn't have known about. I want to have the power to choose which victims I advocate for but it will be out of my control. I can just advocate for them and if some of them happen to be bad I don't have control over it. Yeah I agree sharpening my judgement and work on discerning truth.
  9. @Phil King I agree No your right even the "bad victims" of the Parkland shooting case do deserve justice. But like you said lawyers even have this dilemma so my thing is which you talked about is how can I keep that passion and meaning for everybody even the bad victims. I am specifically talking about if I was in a position of politics and another Parkland shooter case happened and I had to speak about it at a rally or event. Like for example if something like the Parkland shooter happened and I knew all of the victims were good there would be no problem for me to be passionate and find it meaningful speaking about getting justice for all the victims. Like when Ron Desantis was speaking about the Parkland shooter verdict at different rallies and events you heard the passion and meaning in his voice talking about ALL 17 victims not just the good ones but the "bad" ones as well. He felt it was a miscarriage of justice for ALL the victims and he never separated the victims into good and bad. That is how I want to be. No just because they are in my eyes morally bad doesn't mean they don't have the right to justice. You talked about this too and that is why I want to correct this thinking so if I am in a position of power I can speak passionately and find it meaningful to talk about ALL the victims and change laws to get justice for everyone not just people I consider good. I agree.
  10. @Phil King Your right I know in reality there is no such thing as a bad victim. But in my own head I can't help but putting my own judgements on people and separating them into good and bad. I know you linked a couple of videos, do you have any other advice on how I can stop judging people as "bad" and just help? Your right whatever policies I will create will inevitably help "bad" people but how do I keep the same passion and meaning when I know it's going to people I would judge and consider "bad" as well. For example when the Parkland Shooter killed 17 people and was given a life sentence and not the death penalty Ron Desantis was outraged over it. I watched plenty of videos of him reacting to it on Youtube and you can see the passion and meaning in his words wanting to change the death penalty laws because he felt strongly that what happened was a miscarriage of justice. When he was speaking about all 17 victims he had so much passion and meaning in his speech for all 17. How could I have that same passion and meaning if some of the victims might have been "bad" people then to? I know I would be that exact person and I would have the exact same passion and meaning but right now I feel like only if it is for good victims would I have that same passion and meaning. Like you said though it won't just be for good victims inevitably it will help bad victims so how can I switch this thinking? My question is how can I keep the same passion and meaning in a situation like that while at the same time knowing the help will go to people that I consider "bad" and not just good?
  11. @aurum Well yeah when it comes to voting on a criminal justice bill I could handle doing something that. I am able to trust my future judgement for voting on a criminal justice bill like that. No your right I don't think it's worth it to throw away a fruitful career in politics like you said for a "what if" scenario What I am afraid of though is going into politics and being in one of those "what if situations" like for example if I became governor or mayor and another mass shooting happened. I do find it meaningful and I am passionate about advocating for the proper punishment to be given for something like that happening. However what I am afraid of those is some of those victims I am advocating for being the wrong people. Like my passion and effort to make sure that the proper punishment is being given is going to the wrong person. Basically what I am scared of is if one of these situations might come up when I have a choice of advocating for the death penalty for victims of crimes I am scared that I might be advocating for bad victims and not good victims. By advocating for bad victims my passion and effort is going to the wrong people. This is what I am afraid of.
  12. @Raze Your right that's probably what it is. I know though that as a politician I can't just get justice for those I see part of myself in it will be for everyone. Do you have any advice on how I can change my mindset to want to get justice for everyone then?
  13. If anyone could help me solve this I would really appreciate it. I feel that politics really is for me and this is the thing I need help getting clarity on.
  14. @aurum They are required to in certain cases. Like for example President Biden asked that the death penalty be reinstated for the boston marathon bomber. Also, Ron Desantis changed the death penalty laws in Florida after the parkland shooter. They do deal with crime and punishment in that type of way.
  15. @Leo Gura You talked about it and gave some good points. I still want to know how can I fully look at this in the right perspective if I go into politics. How can I look at this completely right in terms of politics and good vs bad people?
  16. I know I posted something like this recently but this is still an issue of mine and I would like some help on it. I am really passionate about politics and I am considering going into it. However one of the areas that I am still passionate about which is the death penalty in helping victims of crimes I am still not fully sure about. When it comes to things like mass shootings, terrorist attacks and serial murders I am passionate about getting victims the justice they deserve. However I really only want to help good victims in these situations not the bad victims. I am not saying that a bad victim deserved to have what happened to them. What I am saying is that in any of these cases if there are for example 10, 20, or 30 victims. Even though I have to come out and say that there were that many victims the only people that I actually want to help get justice are the good people and not the bad ones. I wouldn't want to help get justice for bad victims who were horrible, bad, awful people hurting others while they were alive. I was considering possibly just still working to help the victims just knowing in my head I am doing it for the good ones and not the bad people. What do you think I should do if I am passionate about politics and I want to help victims of crimes get justice but only the good victims not the bad ones?
  17. I want to go into politics with the right mindset. I want to be able to look at this from the right perspective.
  18. @Leo Gura Well I think age might play a factor into this I'm only 23 so that might be because my brain hasn't reached full maturity. I know you can reach maturity in other ways but I do think that age might play a factor into this. I read on a google search that you don't reach full maturity until you become 25 years old. Some experts even have it being older than that saying you don't become fully mature until you reach your 30's and 40's. You did explain the right way to look at this which is what I want to know how to do . I want to be able to look at politics in the right way and look at good vs bad people in the correct way. I want to be able to work in politics correctly and have the right mindset.
  19. @universe I agree in what you said it is more about the victims and not the offenders. You do want to have clear boundaries on what is allowed and not. However in the example that you gave if someone was an asshole to their coworkers for their whole life even though it is about the offender and not the victim if someone was to act this way their whole life wouldn't it still almost be like you were defending a bad person. I totally get what you are saying and I agree just for some reason it still feels to me like if you were to enforce the law to people you consider bad you are somehow helping the wrong person.
  20. Does anybody have any advice they can give me on this issue still? I feel like politics is my purpose in life but this issue of helping "bad victims" is the only thing that's holding me back. I would like to get some clarity on it so I can figure out if politics is something I should fully pursue or not.
  21. Like for example if there are 17 victims or even 3,000 victims how am I suppose to know the victims who actually deserve to be helped? I think the issue might simply be to focus less on the idea of helping bad victims but for some reason that part of my brain can't stop thinking that way. It seems like my energy and attention might be going to the wrong people since I don't know the victims and can't separate them into "good" and "bad" people. I have met some real jerks and bullies in my life and even though people like that still don't deserve to be victims. I would hate for one of them to be a victim in a situation and I have to attempt to get justice for them as well. Those are the people I would put in the category as "bad victims" and I wouldn't feel successful helping them as I would "good victims".
  22. @Yimpa That's true well then how do you truly know who to help?
