Big pupils make them think you're up to something. When cats/dogs hunt, their pupils dilate. When they see your dilated pupils they assume the same. In addition, they can often tell you're in an altered state of consciousness. Without a distracting intellect, animals are very sensitive to this stuff. They can basically tell you're different to the other humans or that something's off. My cat would always know I'm high.

inspiration isn't planned, it's spontaneous. You get inspired from making connections within randomness.

Directing / story writing is an art form. It's an art form as it's too complex to produce a formula for. You can basically do anything as long as the thing you do next (or layer on top) is of a complimentary contrast. If you have a gentle character, you might want to introduce an aggressive character. If the setting is very refined and elegant, you may want a story that's vulgar/gross. Breaking Bad had an ordinary teacher with a stable life become a meth manufacturer getting involved in murders. GoT had central characters getting killed every few episodes without warning. It made you feel safe, and then stirred shit up for contrast. It would've still worked with half the characters/complexity. What really made it good was the unpredictability, i.e. the actual events of the story contrasted the viewers' expectations.

I don't think you understood a single thing I was saying. That "certain way" is precisely what I was explaining here. Contrast is the very thing that brings about balance and "the right proportions". Too much of one things = no contrast = bad proportions. I'm just pointing out that lack of contrast is the actual root of the problem when you see that the "proportions" are wrong on something. Tonality makes you actually care/relate to what's happening. Without it you'd not care what happens to who. And from there what you need is contrast. "intelligence, creativity, neatness" are meaningless without contrast. If you have a new main character every episode, and the story has no contrast, then no amount of "intelligence, creativity, neatness" will fix it. ?

Yep, that's a big part of it. But it's also just that they're all really good with strong visionaries behind them. Star Trek - goal oriented, visionary, abstract, futuristic, existential, very tier 2, power dynamics, stakes, broad scale, ambitious, curious, happy but also dark. Anime - goal oriented, character oriented, abstract, power dynamics, ambitious, curious, often existential, often broad scale, often futuristic/sci-fi, both dark and light, cute but also dark. Breaking Bad - goal oriented, character oriented, power dynamics, ambitious, thriller, existential (motivations-in-life), very dark with some light. GoT - goal oriented, character oriented, power dynamics, ambitious, thriller, existential (value of life), very dark with some light. To really break this down I'd need to write a whole essay, but basically it's contrast and tonality. Why does music use scales? To have a focal centre within frequency. Well music is no different to stories. Stories also have a focal centre, just in the form of a protagonist and/or an objective. Music's usually either happy or melancholic, major/minor, and stories, too, are usually either one. I listen almost exclusively to music in minor, and the same goes for my taste in stories, I like them like GoT, a bit dark. Then there's the arrangement. In music I like a good exposition to capture my attention, then a long, intense build up, and then a crazy climax. In stories my preference is 100% identical. That's why isekais are so common in anime. Isekais, naturally, have a powerful exposition as they just throw you into a whole new world! Now, why do I like such an arrangement? Why do I like dark stories and music? Why do I like climaxes? Contrast. Going from nothing into an exposition = contrast. Going from a build up to a satisfying climax = contrast. Light within darkness shines more brightly than darkness within light = contrast. Light/dark, happy/sad, bright-colors/dark-colors, future/past, cute/ugly, fortune/tragedy, etc. The more contrasting elements you have, the better. Just think about your favorite series and you'll probably find there's a lot of contrasting elements to them. Made in Abyss is a good example. Has every extreme, and that's why it's the best anime of the current anime season. But anime, in general, has much more contrast than live action series. No problem switching back and forth between an alien planet, space, and a medieval civilization. This would be near impossible with live action as you'd need to build expensive sets, and is why Avatar 2 is taking over a decade to make. I guess I left out complexity. That's another important one, but only comes after the previous two. Complexity must be a result of the other two factors. Edit: omg.. I just said I won't be writing an essay, and somehow ended up writing one????

lolwut I like music. You're the one who only cares about poetry. I bet you don't even study it or play any instruments
-
It's related but not in any way I could really explain. There are many reasons I like anime. Anime has less filler and more actual "content" than your Downton Abbey or whatever you like to watch, but so did Game of Thrones. I like music that's like GoT/Breaking Bad/Star Trek/Anime. What do GoT/Breaking Bad/Star Trek/Anime have in common? Figure that out, and you'll figure out my taste in music.

Yeah that one's underdeveloped, but gets the ideas across the best as it's so barebones. "second lives" though is raw stimulation, yet I don't think it's really missing anything.
-
Video not available. Of course it's better when there's emotion, but stimulation comes first. Always. Here are a couple more examples with no real emotional message. No sad/happy/loving/angry/etc, Just raw stimulation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1vcJPKHJ3A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10J-ygTZStE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdKOo6yLf2Y

Ok, I consider this as without any sort of emotional message. No heartbreak/love crap. Just pure stimulation. Do you consider this "pretty bad" as there's nothing emotional here? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diMo5wx5ZZ4 Are you complaining I'm not technical enough? You wanna talk experimental music theory?
-
..how is this relevant here? How so? Actually one of my main long term goals is to become more hedonistic. I already said I use music to get high, aka euphoria, which you consider an emotion. I'm extremely sensitive to euphoria. More than anyone I've ever known. But I don't consider myself emotional. Euphoria, to me, just seems like "energy", and not a call to action like most emotions are. I guess you could compare it more to food or sex than to emotion. Is masturbation emotional because it feels good? Is cheese emotional?

I think you're mixing up music and art. They're not the same thing. If I wanna get high on music, Imma listen to things with a good rhythm, harmony, and drop. If I don't want to get high, then I'll look for something else. Music, to me, is all about peak experiences, and about ambience. If I want something else then that's not a regular thing for me. I rarely go on the art subreddit to appreciate people's art. Only really when I'm tripping. I treat music that's "music as an art form" the same.

Ed Sheeran fan confirmed. Such a shame.
-
y'know.. Ed Sheeran type shit. Anyone who listens to music just for the lyrics and the subtle/INFP emotions always listens to this type of stuff. I just group them all into the Ed Sheeran camp. Nothing I hate more tbh, but you can have your preferences. Who? I think I've seen a minute of him speak from your links. He seems like an Orange or something, never seemed worth paying attention to. You want me to get a PhD or what? Careful with the assumptions.
-
Well is euphoria/awe/fascination an emotion? That's really all I care to experience from music. I never pictured you as the type who listens to "a man with a guitar singing sad, emotional love songs" genre of music. I have a university degree in music. Does that satisfy your Te?

I'm literally a composer and pianist. Give yourself 5 warning points. umm, I thought someone like you would be better informed about the condition.. It's not literally just an inability to read facial expressions. If it were, it would be called face-blindness or something. Autistic people are, generally, autistic in everything. In relationships, communication, hobbies, music, posture, walking, running, reading, interpreting, believing, etc. etc.
-
Music is there for stimulation/enjoyment, not emotion or anything else unless it's an OST for a film or something. Irrelevant. I've never listened to a song just because the album had some lore with some deeper meaning the composer had in mind. Every person has an individual interpretation of every song. There is no "real" / "true" meaning behind anything.
-
Like Mr. Robinson pointed out, "baby baby baby ooooohhhh baby baby baby oooooooohhhh" means fuck all in the pop genre. Basically all pop music lyrics are meaningless and add nothing to the music. The example I gave just shows how choice of vocabulary can change the vibe of song. But even then it's more a matter of artistic value than musical value. In hiphop, the vibe is more important and so the lyrics can change how you feel about a song. But this is rare, and most music is completely unaffected by lyrics.
-
Well they'd make the song more catchy and memorable, but not necessarily any better. imo lyrics should just be there for the way they sound, and/or their connotations/vibe (e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0QhxF4OmhQ but this genre is a rare example of where it actually matters)
-
A gimmick, imo. But sure, it's creative and cool. I prefer use of lyrics like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQUrmnwCuqs (Made up words. Proves my point how the meaning of the words is absolutely 100% irrelevant.)
-
Well that's how you're supposed to listen to music. Though it doesn't come natural to everyone. Like how severely autistic people can't understand facial expressions, they're often also unable to understand music and find other ways of deriving enjoyment from it, i.e. appreciating the use of vocabulary in the lyrics.
-
If you're not listening to it for the music, then you're not listening to it for the music. You're just appreciating poetry. I see this as a disability tbh. Poetry is one thing. Music is its own thing. If you can't understand music, then that's just sad.
-
What about meaningless lyrics with made up words? But yeah, I generally couldn't care less about lyrics. It just opens up the medium of music to those who can't understand/appreciate musicality. I know people for whom melody/harmony/rhythm/scale/etc. mean nothing, and all they enjoy is the lyrics. But at that point it's literally just poetry and idgaf about that.
