  1. @Kyle Perhaps you can make a music-making robot and incorporate the tools you learn in each of your classes to build/improve it.
  2. @Saitama I don't know of any other examples right now, and you are probably right that it is a rarity in the academic achievement world. The more talents and achievements you seek in a person, the rarer that person becomes. However, I don't think the two achievements are incompatible. Devoting 30 minutes to an hour of exercise per day doesn't seem unacceptably time consuming for these individuals.
  3. I think one of the several ways to becoming a more assertive individual is to say "no" more. Friends, family, and peers may pull you in all sorts of directions. If you have firm beliefs and know what you want, you can respectfully decline the offers that steer you away from your directed path, and accept the ones that align with it.
  4. My same sentiments exactly. And I am grateful that Ayla has reminded me to be grateful.
  5. @Saitama What constitutes "amazing physical condition"? Being noticeably muscular does not correlate to being in optimally healthy shape. Barack Obama, the current U.S. president and a Nobel laureate, starts every morning with a 45 minute exercise. I may consider that as having superb fitness, especially considering his other day-to-day responsibilities. However, the appearance of his physique may not seem above average. This same lack of correlation between muscularity and fitness applies to a fictional character named Saitama.
  6. Maybe. We are all bounded by the same reality (whatever this reality actually is); gravity and the rest of the physics of the universe are acting on us relentlessly. If you attempt to walk through a wall right now, there is a 99.99999...% chance you will not phase through the wall. But here is the key: You are a part of reality, and at any given moment, you have an astronomically large number of choices, if not infinite number of choices, in how you choose to manipulate it. If you go out and do activity X, you are manipulating reality. If you type in a random number right now (or simply even think of one), you are manipulating reality. If you exist in this reality, you are manipulating reality. So if you asked me "Can I walk into a wall at this very moment in time, based on all the technology we have and current understanding of reality?" I would say your chances are converging toward 0%—it is practically impossible. But, if you asked me "Are there a set of choices I can take from now until my conscious dissipates, that will enable me to phase through a wall?" I would say your chances are looking better now—you possibly can.
  7. Green tea has a negligible amount of caffeine, therefore you're unlikely to sense any mental effects from it. It is also a very healthy drink, and the benefits it would bring to your life to drink more of it should outweigh any concern you have in this case.
  8. I've never personally done network marketing, but I know a bit about it through research and people I know: Network marketing (often synonymous with "multi-level marketing") can be a feasible way to make money. However, you deserve to know what you're getting yourself into: you would become a salesperson/recruiter—your goal is to either sell services to people, recruit more salespeople/recruiters into the business, or both. Furthermore, you are paid strictly off of commission; the business only cuts you a check when you generate profits for them (so the business doesn't care who works for it; anyone can hire or fire themselves at will). If you aren't already a good salesperson, you may need further training to gain a desirable income from network marketing. This is especially true since there is a negative connotation toward network marketing. I think this may be because the selling approach of network marketers usually feels a bit forced, similar to telemarketers—telemarketers tend to call you out of the blue, blast you with information, and then request you to buy a service without providing you any value beforehand. If you don't mind not having a secure stream of income, and you want to work as a salesperson, then network marketing may be for you.
  9. He habitually reads and contemplates to gain knowledge. If you engage in the same online video game for 10 hours a day, learning more about it, playing it, and contemplating it, you will become a very knowledgeable player about that game, and probably one of the best players in the game (probably high-ranked, well-respected in the game, well-known, etc.). In that same sense, if you engage in life, in a very conscious way, learning about various aspects of it, experiencing it on a conscious level, and meditating, you will become a very knowledgeable person in life, and probably one of the most successful people in the world.
  10. Any form of instrumental music without lyrics can be a good solution to this. It also helps with productivity when you are listening to instrumental music and working at the same time, since you aren't distracted by interpreting lyrics. As far as specific music suggestions go, I find Paramore to have a good track record when it comes to uplifting music, and surprisingly, they are mainstream (example song, and another).
  11. Listening to audiobooks can be a good way to increase your active reading. Hearing someone's voice may be a more alerting sensory input to you, and you may naturally engage the material more. It may not help for when you are sitting down reading a book, but supplementing your reading with audiobooks may allow you to read more content in a given day. I find this to be especially true when you listen to audiobooks at times when you are doing unconscious tasks, yet cant simultaneously read a book (i.e. weightlifting or driving on a familiar route).
  12. Name: Clay Curl Age: 24 Gender: Male Location: New York, USA Occupation: Web Developer & Entrepreneur Marital Status: Single Kids: No Hobbies: personal development, weightlifting, audiobooks, learning, computer programming, entrepreneurship, meditating I got into personal development in 2015 when I started to do freelance web design work, as an alternative to a full-time job. It was an amazing feeling to be in control of my day-to-day activities, except I soon realized I was spending most of my time playing games, spending little-to-no time working, and not earning a decent salary. I had become my own boss, but I wasn't a very good one. It was at that point I realized that I need better myself and become more self-disciplined, in order to freelance effectively. This path soon expanded into seeking personal development in all areas of my life. I am currently striving to be a successful serial entrepreneur. Personal challenges I've overcome: Quit smoking, online gaming, and watching television Developed life goals and projected milestones What I'm working on now: Improving my social abilities and charisma, as a natural introvert Becoming financially independent Launching a successful business Improving my health & fitness Reaching my potential Enlightenment
  13. I'm 24. The average age is currently 26, based on the comments so far.
  14. While talking with someone who is being pessimistic, I try to make a conscious effort to respond with optimism. It may not be as effective as saying "hey, stop being so negative," but it can sometimes steer the conversation in a more positive direction, and I believe it is a humble approach. This approach also helps to keep you personally more optimistic.
