  1. I'm not even for a second claiming we don't have problems to solve. Like I said in the other thread about climate, maybe we should haul all the plastic out of the oceans before we start acting like we care about the environment.
  2. @TheAlchemist That's not accurate because errors propagate through any such model and accumulate until your data becomes virtually useless. It's actually infinitely easier to accurately predict weather on a short timescale, than make conclusive predictions about climate in the long term. And measurement is another massive problem that you're probably not aware of. See this video for a great explanation of just how in the dark we really are when it comes to even measuring the surface temperature of Earth with any degree of accuracy at all. My personal take is that climate change is a problem, but it's been massively and needlessly amplified by the media hype train. We will get over it. We got over WW2 and the cold war. Ponder that for a second.
  3. @Fortunate Son I'm well versed in data science. Maybe you don't realize the scope of data fuckery that goes on in it, but I sure as hell do. Anyone who claims they can accurately predict what the climate will do even 5 years from now is delusional, and it doesn't really matter if they have credentials up to the stratosphere. A lot of climate scientists disagree with the consensus, yet they can't even publicly fucking talk about it. And why? Because they would immediately get jumped by a million people claiming how they're anti-science, deniers, and in the pocket of oil companies. It's a very dishonest way to do science. Science exists because claims you make in science can be criticized and investigated and corrected when needed, but the trend is more and more in the direction of making science into some kind of infallible religion that you either 100% believe, or you're branded a denier immediately. Consensus doesn't mean shit if it doesn't align with objective reality. And there's no better example of failed predictions than with climate. Actually study this shit and you'll be surprised at just how much bullshit has been generated in the past few decades about it. You think the climate scientists in the 70s making predictions about the coming ice age were stupider than they are today? You think computers make predictions better? Think again. The Earth climate is a chaotic system and even the tiniest change with one variable can lead to massively different outcomes. It's exactly the same as trying to predict the motion of a double pendulum, except far worse since we're dealing with literally millions of variable unaccounted for in any model. Any scientist worth their salt will understand this, but unfortunately most scientists are quacks themselves with no grasp over the fundamentals. I'm sure I'm just gonna be labelled a denier or whatever so I'm gonna do you all a favor and stop posting here.
  4. @Thought Art Sometimes a meme is worth a thousand words. If you want to spread doom and gloom and a general sense of despair, be my guest. But at least do yourself a favor and read some opposing opinions, you may be surprised. Scientific consensus and media hype aren't worth jack shit if they don't align with objective reality. And no one, not even the IPCC has any claim on objective reality, they can claim consensus but at the end of the day if the data doesn't align with reality it's worthless.
  5. @Leo Gura Why, because I point out the inherent insanity of claiming you can predict a chaotic system with any degree of accuracy whatsoever? If you knew what kind of error margins these models are dealing with you'd pee yourself laughing. Here's the actual suffering all this bullshit causes, this is just one of many quotes like this on Reddit: And here's one for you: Feel free to ban me if that makes you feel any better.
  6. Most developers stay away from jQuery at this point as the ES standard (which defines JavaScript) already includes most of its functionality, and better libraries exist for the functionality that it doesn't include (like tweening and event handling). That's not to say that it's wrong to use jQuery but let's just say it has lost its umph over the years. I would suggest you start at the basics, learn CSS and JS proper, and start making concrete websites and webapps until things clicks. Here's one good source to learning JavaScript: https://github.com/getify/You-Dont-Know-JS/blob/1st-ed/README.md
  7. Yeah I don't think the problem is necessarily the critique, it's the attitude.
  8. Space is the most important thing. Any good designer knows this.
  9. Gonna need to call the fire department after Leo's post
  10. Steve Jobs. Bill Gates. Zuckerberg. All without degree. My opinion is you should get a degree if and only if you're getting one for the knowledge you'll gain acquiring it. Only idiots get a degree just to prove they got one. As a developer myself, I can tell you that A LOT of people with degrees have no fucking skill whatsoever. And people without degrees tend to be those that got into it with a burning passion, and it shows. That said - the best programmer (by a factor of 10 or more) I've ever met has degrees up the wazoo. Bottom line is, don't underestimate degrees but also don't think that the degree is the point, because it's not. The point is knowledge.
  11. Work on your anatomy. Legs and toes, and hands and fingers look unnatural. Tail looks a bit odd, tails never get more thick with length unless in perspective. Head doesn't look right either. Shading on body could use more contrast. I like the bump-shading on the tail, that's the best part imo. Hope I'm not being overly critical. Just wanted to offer actual advice on how to improve. You'll get there.
  12. I'm glad it has. The only effect censorship has is people get even more angry for not being able to voice opinion. Discourse is much preferred.
  13. They're necessary if you're not naturally spiritually gifted and struggle even believing that higher order truths can be experienced directly. Psychedelics in that case offer you a direct insight which is orders of magnitude more impactful than any faith. Like comparing a toy excavator to a real excavator. Psychedelics are stepping stones and nothing more. You're gonna get a lot of answers in this thread glorifying them, people claiming how they're necessary for spiritual growth, and how you can't even grasp enlightenment without them. I would be very wary of such opinions. If you abuse them they are nothing more than blind alleys, they will make you feel enlightened but at the end of the day you'll face the world as you always have, unenlightened and frustrated. In my humble opinion, meditation is an infinitely more powerful tool for spiritual growth.
  14. I agree. But had there not been great individuals in the mix, you and I wouldn't be exchanging this dialog on our computers right now.
  15. Umm. You don't want to retain water, you want the body to clear it as soon as possible, lest you get bloated. I mean one of the benefits of quitting sugar is supposed to be less water retention in the body, I'm not sure why you'd want more.
  16. Because they can't awaken you. And I only bash over-reliance on them. If there was an algorithm for awakening, someone would have figured it out already but grace seems to come when it wants to, not when you want it to.
  17. Look through history. The greatest inventors, mathematicians, physicists, and so on, all lived in incredibly turbulent times. The collective sure as hell didn't help Einstein all that much, or Newton, or Gauss, or any of the greats, in fact often times it worked against them, just think Copernicus. And those are the people you know, you don't know about anyone else. The masses are forgotten, the greats aren't. Their wisdom, intelligence and actions reverberate through history to this day.
  18. The only reason why I watch Leo is for wisdom, I could care less about any drama involving his channel.
  19. Every artist has to go through the pit of despair, sometimes several times over. It's fundamental.
  20. Sounds like a pyramid scheme.
  21. Maybe, idk. I don't really believe this to be the case. I know Leo's all about hurr durr collective, but I'm not. History is produced and written by the individual, the masses are just along for the ride.
  22. Excuse me for having doubts when certain people are profiting literally billions of dollars from this. I'm sure it's all just a humanitarian measure, and all the money is a happy side effect.
  23. Took you long enough to figure out.
