After what I've seen today I'm done with this Forum. I really enjoyed my time here and I learned a lot. I tried to overlook Leo's ugly ego characteristics but now I'm just embarrassed to be associated with this forum. I can't stand behind someone who constantly brags about how conscious, evolved, or intelligent he is while putting other people down. I think Leo needs a teacher but I don't think he has the humility to admit that he could benefit from one. Take care y'all. -
How can he deliver on giving cops full immunity? I don't think he has this kind of power

It's interesting to hear reactions to the opening ceremony in the news. The right has not responded well. I wonder how the people of France feels about it.

I don't think half the population even know what a dictatorship is. They just believe trump's lies and they'll follow him even if he walks them off a cliff,. -
@Butters Not a great comparison to Ariana Grande, she hasn't been portrayed as a philanthropist.

That's not true, a democracy doesn't mean that you don't have some basic guidelines in place. -

I don't like guns, but with all the crazy shit that's gone down since the Trump presidency I've been wondering if I needed to arm myself. I'm concerned with poverty and crime going up, violent protests, looting, etc. When I lived in San Diego, my friend lived in an area where BLM protests turned into absolute mayhem. Conservatives flocked to the streets with guns, claiming to protect businesses from looting. Some people burned down a bank. At one point my friend became concerned for his life and sat on his couch with his assault rifle pointed at the door in case someone tried to force their way in. Ever since then I'm I'm just like, damn, maybe I need to be prepared for the worst -
That's crazy. I knew nothing about this guy. I've only seen him in an interview. He made himself out to be a guy who didn't care about money and wanted to give it all away for the sake of of being kind. It will be interesting to see if he goes down for this or will become some life-long fraudster.

I have a strong hatred for religion. I used to be more tolerant, but that all turned around a few years ago.

I am so sick of people killing in the name of infantile belief systems.
-
That's disgusting

Just curious, is anyone on this thread even close to changing their minds?

If the dems win this election, they're going to have to move swiftly to put protections in place to save democracy -
PTSD is a common occurrence in first responders. This is well documented. Paramedics, firemen, and police deal with a LOT of shit. I would not be surprised if the higher ups brush this shit aside because of the toxic culture. I'm willing to bet that many officers walk around out there untreated. I don't know many paramedics, but I've known my fair share of cops and firemen. They tend to view mental health disorders as weak, and some don't even believe the shit is real. https://www.police1.com/health-wellness/articles/5-myths-and-truths-about-officers-and-ptsd-xcLlJb9moaO2lXoz/ What this tells me is that mental health awareness is critical in the police force. This also tells me that police may not just be a bunch of assholes off the street seeking positions of power. I think there's a lot of truth to what Leo is saying about cops being disillusioned from dealing with shitty people all day. Pair that with PTSD and you've got a recipe for disaster. In an ideal world we wouldn't need police. People would be kind, caring, and loving. I often imagine a world full of spiral greens and yellows. I really hope we are moving towards that, but right now, we are far from that level of perfection. Until then, an imperfect system is going to yield imperfect results.

Police responded to the incident because Shaver reportedly pointed a rifle out of his hotel window. I would not expect a cop to be gentle in a scenario like this. That said, this particular cop seemed like a royal dick. But who knows what was going through his head at the time.

@Princess Arabia No worries, in hindsight I could have softened my response. As cliche as this sounds, I'd like for people to see things from both sides. But it's hard to be objective because people lean one way or the other. I get frustrated when people blame the victim, and equally frustrated with others blame the cops. Usually these life or death situations are difficult to see without bias despite questionable acts occurring on both sides. That said, I'm a huge advocate for effective training for police officers. They need to learn to subdue unarmed suspects without drawing their guns. BJJ and wrestling are perfect for this. But what people don't understand is that you need to train 2-3 times per week for one to two years to be effective. That is the reality of martial arts, there is no quick fix. It's repetition, not some weekend training session. New York is catching on and that's a step forward: https://www.cbsnews.com/newyork/news/nypd-brazilian-jiu-jitsu-rener-gracie/ But that's not enough. Training with the same partners every day is not high stress. Cops need to be trained regularly in situations where their adrenaline is pumping so they can learn to keep their cool when they lose the ability to use their minds. IMO, until this happens, it's going to be the same old, same old.

@Princess Arabia I'm very sympathetic to the victim here. This was a tragedy. I acknowledge that he was complying most of the time during this interaction. You can see in the video that they guy is terrified and was likely behaving in accordance with those feelings. I acknowledge that there are many bad cops out there as well as many innocent victims of police brutality. I am not biased towards cops' behavior in general, I'm experienced. I understand first hand of the impact of adrenaline and cortisol and how it affects you in combat situations. I grew up in an extremely rough part of town, was bullied relentlessly, and was forced to engage in many physical altercations. Adrenaline to the max. Eventually I had enough and learned martial arts just so I could defend myself. Over time I developed a passion for martial arts and entered into competition. Despite years of training, competition was always the same. High adrenaline and unbearable nervousness. You do not behave the same under these conditionsThere is no amount of training that prepares you for the intensity of these emotions. I would encourage you to pay attention to shooting incidents. It's an almost predictable formula: Suspect is given orders for the cop's protection. Suspect does not comply. Suspect is shot. That's all I was saying.

We also have absurdly more guns floating around in citizens' hands.
-
He reached behind his back despite the cops orders not to do so. When people get shot by police, this is why, time and time again. Then people say, "Why did they shoot the man?" It's like, come on. When a cop has a gun pointed at you, you do what you are told. Daniel Shaver was believed to have a gun, that's why the cops were there. The cops adrenaline was flowing, why would you expect anything else to happen?

She wasn't standing up and she didn't throw it far. So no.

Dammit, I made one more mistake. I thought she was holding the pot of water above her head when she ducked. The pot was read, but it turns out there was another red item on the counter. So, yeah, it's hard to tell what really happened.
