I think the main difference is speed, drugs have short duration and fast peak that can take you anywhere, where mediation, deep states can go for days, weeks , even months till you build up, which gives way better control of where you are going and getting used to changes.

It is very controversial to say that you hold beliefs, one moment you can believe this, or that, another moment completely something else, or be completely different persona ,I think more appropriate question would be why we chose certain beliefs, in certain situations, this is where term superposition come in handy and letting go is like being unmanifested form.

Maybe start asking yourself serious questions where you have to make difficult choices, that lead to unethical consequences, life does not run on your perfect imagination, if you are not one who will have to make them, someone else will have to, only luxury here is your opinion based on your personal experience.
