Lol And what do you have to say about Trump's interference in social media and the press? I'm not an American and (hence) not as conversant in American politics and laws, but as far as I've understood, the 1st Amendment doesn't apply to restrictions imposed by non-government actors/organizations (such as social media and the press), right? Which means that Trump can't interfere with social media censoring their users posts. He still does it tho. https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/executive-order-preventing-online-censorship/?fbclid=IwAR0x1LYue5Nrq45LPJ_-bIiAd4pTYGpjxm1h0SigOMMbz9i703kht61J5Ds How exactly is this aligned with freedom (of speech) and he constitution? He is a sneaky liar who has no interest other than himself.

Couldn't have said it better. @bejapuskas @Preety_India Totally agree. It can be incredibly frustrating to try to raise awareness, no matter the regard. Being confronted with so much ignorance can drive you mad if you're not carefully detached. Maybe that's an explanation. Edit: Ok hang on.. I think I might've been overlooking something. To say there's no compassion when calling someone dumb and in the same reply admitting that it's utterly frustrating to be confronted with so much ignorance, ignores the difficulty of this whole enterprise. @Leo Gura As long as you don't sail under false pretense I understand why you would call someone dumb. I get it now. At the same time I still hold the position that even if your intentions are good - calling someone dumb won't work in most cases, neither for you nor for them.
-
Yup. I'm starting to think about how to take this information into account when interpreting the replies on certain questions. On one hand it doesn't really matter how old a member is, on the other hand it does. Experience comes with age and nothing can substitute for that.
-
I'm curious about the average age of the users in this forum? The names of the voters won't be made public, so it's anonymous.
-
How would you've done it? Didn't want to take leaps of 10.
-
As for today (Oct. 26th, 08:35 UTC) 63% (n=57) are under 25 y/o
-
Now I'm the one who doesn't understand? Could you elaborate please?
-
@Carl-Richard It's not out of proportion to ask (although I was being sarcastic) whether we'd also get to call people dumb to "wake them up" from their deeply deluded state of mind. Leo claims this to be his intention, whenever you see him do this sort of thing. I (and apparently a few other people) don't quite buy into this explanation, since a) it doesn't target the right people b) it's not done the right way Or have you witnessed a case where it actually worked? "How can you be so dumb?" or "People who buy into conspiracies are some of the dumbest people in our society." "Oh thanks, man! Now that you've been rude to me I can see that I was deluded, thanks again!" This just doesn't fly.
-
What exactly don't you understand?
-
Trump knows the answer to that one??
-
Ohhh this gonna be juicy af?
-
Well in that case it's not necessary to call them dumb either.
-
Lol this is great??
-
@Leo Gura Will you address the use of intuition in science? Most scientists don't like "airy fairy" things like intuition although they always use it and great discoveries stem from their intuition. "[...] it's a feeling into things that comes to answers and leaves no trail [...]. So you you you have it - but you haven't the argument for it and so it's power must reside in its truthfulness. So the power of intuition lies in its ability to express truth in contravention to the forward flow of logic and casuistry." (T. McKenna's description of intuition)

And now what? Do we get a license to call people dumb if it's for their own good? What about teachers in school? If some student is completely wrong, should they lovingly and humorously call them out for being stupid while hoping that it's still rude enough to confront them with their ignorance which then results in an epiphany? Although I can see how this is supposed to work, I think it doesn't, at least not in most cases. Because: if a person says something dumb enough to assume that it could be helpful to be rude enough to demonstrate to this person that he's wrong, calling them "dumb" is very, very likely the wrong choice. If Leo would call me dumb I'd laugh about it because I know that I'm ignorant and because I don't take it seriously, but it's wrong to assume that most people (and above all if it's some random dude in the YT comment section) will react the same way.

Mostly when you read about Love on this forum, it's not love as an emotion. It's Love as a description of the existential nature of reality (it sounds pious and airy fairy, I know). It is a quality of reality, it "encompasses" reality - reality/existence is Love. Maybe this helps: I have only glimpsed Love but let me dare to try to explain it to you? -
Dude, if it helps I'd be very thankful, so go ahead?
-
Agree. But you do see how this whole situation could be regarded to be just like any other "argument" (although this of course isn't one) that flew off the rails into the domain of insulting people? (aka someone doesn't agree with you and you call them dumb?) You see, that's my whole point. Okay, you say you want to wake them up - great, keep doing that. But I think calling people dumb does more harm than good. I doubt it very much that this particular person will have awakened to his/her ignorance by your comment. Yes, I like that too.
-
I can accept that, at least partially. I didn't call you out because I personally feel attacked or anything, I just didn't understand this sort of behavior. Of course you could argue "oh well sometimes people need a rude approach to shake them up", but how do you explain this for exapmle: How is asking someone "how he/she can be so dumb" helpful? To me it just seems rude.
-
In general? Well, since it's unnecessary and not helpful to anyone so I'd say disappointed. When Leo does it? Puzzled and a bit more disappointed.
-
First of all, I could very well argue that there are no dumb people because everything is relative. But that's not the point. The point is, that you insult people. Why would you do that? This is like saying "oh but this person really IS fat!! I'm just stating the obvious!" Doesn't matter. I know not a single teacher who calls people dumb only because they either have other views or are less developed.

Welp... Sheds some new perspective on Peterson. I gotta say, I like Peterson, but rather for the sharpness of his intellect. Too bad and ironic that he fails to recognize such simple things as presented by Maté:

If you're so sure about it all why did you even ask in the first place? Seems to me like a slightly exaggerated reply but ok. Just wanted to help, jesus.. -
Tim R replied to Javfly33's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
@Javfly33 I think you're overthinking this big time... If there's fomo in your life, how about you deal with that first, before you go looking for God and Infinity, hm? Whether people are awake or not should not concern you in the least, it doesn't matter to you? You have so much time left exploring things like God, Infinity and all this other stuff, so take it easy. It's not helpful (at all) to speculate about any of it. Stop taking the things Leo says for granted - because most likely, it will just confuse you. If Leo says "reality is imagination" he might be lying or deluded. You won't find out by speculation. (But this is an other topic...) As I said, I think it's the wrong approach to dealing with your fomo. Trying to fix fomo by trying to realize God/understanding Infinity is like nuking an insect. It's ridiculous. Yes, you get rid of the insect, but also of a lot more too, which might not necessarily be a good thing. Take it easy.❤ -
Tim R replied to Javfly33's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
@Javfly33 Yeah, well, the point you missed is that there is no next life. Equally there are no past lives. All of infinity is gathered right here, right now. Trying to "cure" fomo by awakening to God and Infinity is like attempting to kill some bug with a nuclear bomb. It would work, but it's kinda not the right way.
