  1. This is a good one. Quite academic, but a great compliment to SD. https://www.amazon.com/Changes-Mind-Consciousness-Philosophy-Psychology/dp/0791428508
  2. Might be some Yellow in here?
  3. @Leo Gura @Matt23 This is already happening and already exist, at least at a small scale. I spent some time at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage where hundreds of adults and families live together in harmony in an eco friendly way, most working Internet day jobs to cover living expenses. When I was visiting there, I would do exactly what Jordan Hall is describing...I'd be pitching on a big film project with my coworkers back in LA, then as soon as my Zoom conversations were over and my emails were sent, I'd go play frisbee on the community lawn, join a group of people making homemade pizzas, go on a walk in the woods, etc. It's like a Green's version of eco paradise combined with the best of the Internet. Certainly it was far from a Utopia due to conflicts among people living in the community, and people still had to do stressful shitty day jobs. But it was far more "humanizing" to be living in a true community and in nature. The problem I see is that currently, at this moment, this only appeals to a very small segment of society. But as Americans continue to evolve up the spiral, I imagine we'll be seeing more and more of these communities and perhaps one day even small cities like what Jordan is describing. It will likely take generations to get there, but it's already happening and COVID is only accelerating this trend.
  4. @Joel3102 I imagine generations of unprocessed trauma plays a large role in this. Money and safety nets can't fix everything. It will likely require generations of healing to compensate for the generations of trauma. Perhaps there could be some policy efforts to train Aboriginals in trauma healing, fusing western psychology with indigenous practices? I'm sure that already exist on a small-scale level but likely nowhere near enough. What do Aboriginals feel they need and want in terms of policies?
  5. @DocWatts Thanks! I recently read Diamond's "The World Until Yesterday" which was a good read. My sense from Collapse (watched his TEDTalk) is that he's focusing on relatively small societies compared to the entire United States or the globalized world as a whole, which doesn't make his conclusions any less valid just interesting to think about how these issues could or may scale up, and the impacts of that. It would be interesting to do a study on what Spiral Dynamics level these societies were at when they collapsed...I'm guessing mainly Red and Blue. Red not thinking ahead and committing suicide in the name of power. Blue being stubbornly stuck in its ways and refusing to adapt/innovate. Partly why Trump has been so frightening as a leader during this increasingly fragile moment in human history. My hope is as Western countries progress into late Orange, Green and even Yellow, that real changes can finally begin to materialize. Green can bring the impassioned need for environmental solutions, Orange can meet the demands via cutting-edge innovation and quick thinking, and Yellow can holistically implement and manage the massive and surely disruptive shifts. Of course, this is a plausible reality but also potentially wicked naive and overly optimistic - I concede that. But, hey, let's give it all we got, no?
  6. @Lindsay Most of my Green friends definitely do not want more digital technology. All the conversations revolve around using less technology and spending more time in nature, basically re-integrating aspects of Purple into the spiral. Spending solitude in nature including vision quests have been a huge part of my growth up the spiral into Yellow, so I definitely see the merits of this for individuals ready to live that way. But to suggest the entire globe needs to suddenly and drastically shift into the lifestyles that Greeners demand feels unrealistic and foolish, not to mention controlling. My experience is that Green people value all life (not just humans) equally (which is noble in theory), but in practice their solutions are to go back to living in small self-governed communities/tribes that are self-reliant and basically look a whole lot like stage Purple with a few modern amenities. And if there's pushback to the argument the rebuttal is that climate change will force us to live this way if we don't choose it on our own. The Green in me resonates with these values (like stopping the ecocide that's taking place), but I think overall there is a failure of systemic solutions that meet the needs of people where they're at, not just where Greens wish they were at...
  7. I imagine most of the people who gleefully commit animal cruelty are stage Red, like many of the factory farm workers depicted in this doc getting off on torturing animals. I'm wondering though if people at stage Blue and Orange are also capable of flagrant animal abuse, or if that's less common? I know Orange can certainly profit off animal abuse (like owning a meat processing company), but I presume are less likely to directly engage in the violent acts themselves, perhaps?
  8. Example of someone moving from stage Red to Blue, discovering "truth" and the sins of Hollywood.
  9. Perhaps what could happen is that instead of it getting to a point where the "entire" system collapses (whatever that looks like), we can instead transition to a new world via a series of small collapses such as the one we're experiencing right now with COVID, which has forced billions of people, companies and governments around the world to adapt and find new innovative solutions in a very short window of time. For example billions of people around the world are now working from home via the Internet, and many companies (i.e. Google) are questioning whether large office complexes are necessary in the future. Imagine if we no longer clear cut the land for large office buildings and big box stores, malls, etc, and instead many could work from home, allowing us to spend more time with our families, requiring far less infrastructure. But many folks, especially young unmarried people, would feel more lonely and isolated working from home, which would encourage people to start communities together like co-housing ecovillages where people use even less resources because they're shared amongst many people. This helps solve the loneliness epidemic plaguing the western world. I could see a series of positive chain reactions happening each time a small collapse takes place, but the major distinction I'm making is that if the entire system goes down that will, in my estimation, lead to total chaos, bloodshed and unimaginable consequences.
  10. @Roy I agree...but doesn't this require some form of Industrial Society and a functioning government to implement? If society collapses, the government would theoretically collapse with it, and then it's a dog-eat-dog world, everyone fending for themselves...presumably?
  11. I had the same thought as Leo: tell them about Spiral Dynamics! I think most stage Green people sense that they're the most "progressed" one can be at the moment, except for maybe a handful of unobtainable enlightened masters living in ashrams somewhere. To teach them the spiral and open their eyes to the 2nd tier could be a game changer itself. I'm almost finished reading Wilbur's Integral Life Practice book. It does such a beautiful job of distilling all of Wilbur's complex concepts into a very practical and approachable book that I presume most stage Green people could resonate with. Thinking about life integrally could help one begin to shift. If they're spiritual and especially if they have Christian roots, I highly recommend Richard Rohr's book Falling Upward about the "two halves" of life. Rohr, who has taught Spiral Dynamics, nonduality and other integral maps, basically talks about the difference between 1st tier and 2nd tier but does so in his own words which are very approachable and inspiring. I read this book before I discovered Spiral Dynamics or any of Leo's work, and it was the book that made me understand why I suddenly felt so disconnected from Stage Green. It was a small miracle that it came to me at exactly the right time when I was transitioning into Yellow. Lastly, in additional to psychedelics, another consciousness-shifting transformational experience for me was a 4 day vision quest via Animas Valley. Bill Plotkin started Animas and has some amazing books about Soul Initiation, which doesn't entirely overlap with SD 2nd tier but is certainly heading in that direction. The Animas vision quest programs are incredibly powerful and life changing experiences. Good luck!
  12. @ToriVictoriaYay! Welcome I've found it helpful to try and meet people where they're at and offer "wisdom" (if solicited) that can puncture their stage's worldview, rather than speaking to them "from" the 2nd tier, which can and almost always does go over their heads. Don Beck goes into some detail on this in Spiral Dynamics Integral audiobook (which is different from the paperback book apparently). It's all still new to me...like learning a new way of approaching life, which is why I find it so fascinating and FUN!
  13. @soos_mite_ah Same same. Cool to hear your story and see so much overlap with my own. Enjoy your hermitting
  14. @Identity Sounds interesting. Can you share a link to this training, if you have one? I'd be interested to learn more about what you're up to.
  15. In Leo's Turquoise video, he mentioned there's dozens of communities out there that are Turquoise on the SD map. I was wondering if ya'll could list any you know about. A few that were mentioned in Leo's video: -Sadhguru Isha Foundation -The Chopra Foundation -Sat Yoga Ashram in Costa Rica (Shunyamurti) -Mooji's Monte Sahaja in Portugal Thanks for your help
  16. @Leo Gura Do you think it is even possible to have a truly stage Turquoise community when the overwhelming majority of people in these communities will be stage Green and maybe some Yellows? Even when the community is run by a Turquoise leader wouldn't the overall atmosphere and "vibe" of the place skew very Green? Osho's Oregon ashram (and maybe Mooji's) seem like examples of this. Not sure though.
  17. The Krishnamurti Centres
  18. @electroBeam Do you mind clarifying? The context in which he said it was in reaction to people like Eckhart Tolle, Ken Wilbur and others who claim that humanity is on the verge of a massive shift in consciousness. He was saying that he doesn't share this commonly held view amongst spiritual leaders and said that there's just as much evidence that humanity's consciousness has only devolved, which is certainly a clash with SD.
  19. Adya has spoken about his lack of belief that human consciousness is evolving, which I find interesting and wonder if he's familiar with SD and if so how he feels about. He also seems more actively outspoken on social justice issues, more so than most modern enlightened teachers. Would he be considered stage Turquoise, or could he be an example of an enlightened person whose cultural meme is more at stage Green or Yellow? ^ Never mind, I see how I was confused.
  20. Maybe Tamera Peace Project in Portugal? Kind of Green/Yellow/Turquoise blend.
  21. @soos_mite_ah You perfectly described my center of gravity shift from Green to Yellow, which started in March. It was just before I knew about SD, and at first I was wondering, "What the hell is going on?! Everything I was interested in before seems far less important, and all I want to do is read books and research topics I've never had any interest in before." Luckily this transition took place just before COVID hit, so the timing was perfect for "cocooning" myself at home
  22. Has anyone heard of this 9 week online course with Craig Hamilton called Integral Enlightenment? I just completed the first week and really enjoyed the course material so far. I appreciate his lens of viewing enlightenment as an evolutionary journey for humanity rather than just a personal ego chase. I've also been interested in his Practice of Direct Awakening 12 week course...has anyone taken this before? 23. @Seraphim Thanks for your feedback! I'm suspicious when the prices of some of these workshops are so pricey, including RASA which I've looked into recently. On the one hand I see how "priceless" these services are, but on the other hand it seems to really limit the information to only those who have plenty of savings, which fortunately I do, but I feel sad that others might not have the same access. Makes me really appreciate Leo offering so much of his content for free
