Every being is entitled to their survival and your survival isn't something to passively demonize or see as something useless. As conscious beings we can go about survival though in more compassionate ways where we aren't being wasteful and treading as lightly as we can to allow for the survival of all life. It's part of the grand design after all. Survival isn't something bad but as a finite creature you can never be 100% selfless. You will always have a tiny bit of selfishness as you need to survive. Nothing wrong with this and it is because of this we can experience the joys of life.
