  1. @Razard86 you are falling into the trap of hedonism . No amount of sex or food or drugs or music or travelling or stoicalising will ever make you truly fulfilled. The truth is: We human are designed to adapt. The pleasure of winning a lottery, buying a new car, or even meeting the man or woman of our dream does not last forever. We adapt to our fulfilled desires and eventually stop finding them as desirable as they once were. As a result, in order to experience the same level of pleasure we have once attained, we now need to seek new desires with higher intensity...a greater wealth, a more luxurious car, a bigger house, and perhaps for some… a new relationship or even a new marriage. Contrary to our original intention, the pursuit of pleasure has become a vicious cycle that consumes our life in a rather undesirable way.
  2. recently I got hold of a few novels that were so good that I had no time comparing them with famous or established writers. I liked the story and that was enough for me. So Yes ,I care about how people think of my book . That's obvious. It's a sign of success. I'm still a university student and didn't have my first job yet . So if I could make profit out of publishing my book . Who doesn't want to be recognised as a great author? Thanks Can you please explain to me how exactly to use these to promote my book? I'm a little disappointed because today, mostly all people order books from online book stores or in most cases get the book immediately from Kindle or Google Books. People read reviews on some blogs or on Goodreads or Amazon. If all sounds convincing, they go and buy the book. Also a survey of young readers showed that books by new authors are more interesting and holds fresh or unheard stories. Thus, they pick up books that they like to read over deciding their reading preference by looking the name of author or publisher. So if that's my first book ...how am I gonna promote it via Amazon ..no one is gonna want to buy it . Especially because the author(me ) is unknown. Thank you .Will check it out .
  3. @StarStruck Look ,The most self-involved people don't know that they are self-involved, so the fact that you are asking the question is a sign of self awareness. This is an excellent start. Next, step out of the life inside your head. What is happening to those closest to you? Do you know what they just went through, accomplished, were afraid of? Find out. When you talk to them, listen. Really listen. Don't start thinking about what you are going to say next or about what you are going to be doing later. Don't frame the conversation in a way that places you at the center of it. Then, take this a concentric circle further. Are there people in your life you never think of that make your day better? The person who makes you coffee, who drives the bus that takes you into work or school, Say hello. Say thank you. Learn their names. What are their lives like, beyond that place where their existence overlaps with yours? What about those whose lives never touch yours at all? People who live in a different context or situation? Can you learn more about them, open your eyes to their world, develop empathy? Can you get involved? The more connected you are to others, the more connected you become to yourself. Everything on Earth holds something intimately revealing and is waiting for you to get closer to present itself to you. Everything out there is waiting for you. Because everything IS YOU.
  4. Just take a moment to observe your thoughts. Notice that there is a gap between them .it lasts for few seconds between each thought and the next one. . There’s a space, a gap between this thought, and the arising of the next thought. With time and practice, we realize that the space, the gaps, are much bigger than we ever imagined. At first, we experience them as short breaks between thoughts. But as we pay attention, the gaps become bigger and bigger until we see that the entire background of our mind is spacious.it’s a big gap. And all the thoughts that come, however many there may be, cannot obscure the gap. In the beginning of practicing this technique , the act of noticing disrupts the act of being caught up in the moment, in a particular thought. And then we notice the next thought, and there’s a gap, then the next one, and a gap. As we keep doing this, as we keep practicing, the mind gaps keep growing. As they become larger and larger, we feel more and more relaxed. We start to have the sense that the gaps are actually much truer, much more real, than all the superficial little thoughts that bubble up and can seem so important. So the gap starts small, and as we continue paying attention to the space between thoughts, as we continue minding the gap, our meditation naturally shifts towards awareness. We see how the mind is producing thoughts, and realize that awareness of thoughts doesn’t have to take us away from being present. This is where the meditation becomes more about awareness, where mindfulness becomes awareness. Mindfulness and awareness are not separate: they work together. Each time we’re aware of something..a thought, an object etc..we become more aware of the space around it. Think about it Everything happens in space! This simple technique will show you that you are not your thoughts. That you are consciousness. The gap itself. And notice how the more you practise this technique and abide as awareness between the thoughts ..the more you become free from a lot of suffering that is basically constructed by your mental processes. And eventually you can reach enlightenment. Or the recognition of your true nature as pure spacious consciousness. Pure space . If you have any questions..ask away ?
  5. It got nothing to do with "god ". Fuck god. I'm saying it is for your own benefit. Maybe you are not ready yet to taste the pleasure of being generous and helpful to others . Imagine the kind of love that a mother has for her children..she is ready to die from hunger to feed her kids . And this is the case with all of the animal's Kingdom. Not just humans . Trust me ..when you treat others as you treat yourself you will attract good karma .you don't have to believe in reincarnation or any kind of spiritual BS. You know something is good when it feels good .you know something is right when it feels right . How does it feel if you give charity to poor people ?
  6. But when you realize that "others " are yourself..then charity becomes mandatory. If you thought about people as other versions of you in a different timeline..how would that change your attitude towards them ?
  7. Philosophy in a formal sense is not necessary for a spiritual life. even so, in a less formal sense every person is their own philosopher. The moment you start to wonder about life and its meaning, you become a lover of wisdom. However, there is no need to reinvent the wheel. We can draw on the insights of the great thinkers throughout history, not only in Greek and European history, but in Chinese and Indian philosophy also. Spirituality is just philosophy on steroids. You are basically wondering about the deepest existential questions that a human can ask .
  8. Stop being so goddam selfish. That's the whole point of spiritual practice . To love others as much as you love yourself. In fact the more you expand your consciousness and expand your identity to include every human being and every creature etc..then you feel happy about charity. In fact ,nothing gives me more happiness than feeding a hungry kitten or stuff from this ilk.
  9. Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional. As long as you are alive and trying to survive in the world..you MUST experience pain and hardship . Like what Leo says "without Suffering you will die ". There is pretty much nothing you can do about physical pain .for instance you can't do anything to change the feeling of hunger when you skip meal time. But you CAN do a lot to decrease psychological suffering .how ? Acceptance. Just be okay with whatever is happening in the world. Trust that God knows what he Is doing .he is not a dumbass . Gratitude. Seeing the big picture of why the suffering is neccesary for your growth and learning from your mistakes. Focusing on the positive stuff in life . You do have them .no matter how little they are . Go up to your mom and give her a hug and appreciate her existence.
  10. Hi If solipsism is real then the only person really existing would be you, the questioner. If you're the only who really exists, how can you ask me, an ontologically unreal person to answer that ? If I say "yes solipsism is real" then what it means is that I'm the only person who really exists, but if John says solipsism is real then, to him, he's the only person who really exists, and if you say it, then you're the only person who really exists. If solipsism is "real" then I, the person answering, am not a real person but a mere figment of your mind so in essence my answer on solipsism is the result of your mind. Another person cannot answer to you whether solipsism is "real".
  11. @Gesundheit2 why would there be a difference between man-made, and nature made? There’s nothing particularly magical about human mind/brains. We understand a great deal of what they are doing. The skull is filled with fatty tissue. That tissue is a network of largely self-similar components. We understand that components like these can be used to solve problems, recognise things, predict outcomes. So I only think it's a matter of time . But of course I'm talking about hundreds of years . I don't expect self-conscious bots to be invented in this century. Maybe in the next one . I think the fundamental difference between humans and our AIs today is simply consciousness. We are conscious. Al is not consciousness. Unless there will be a scientific discovery of how exactly does the brain produce consciousness (which it doesn't) then there will be no progress in this situation.
  12. @Topspin715 i think the function of philosophy is about how to live a better life which is why wisdom and virtues are original philosophy ideas. Other philosophy ideas are Stoicism, religion, science, socialism ect.. it translated from Latin (or Greek, im not sure) as "love of wisdom ". So it's the pursuit of wisdom and truth and intellectual pleasure just for its own sake . Meaning it has no purpose outside of itself.
  13. It's almost as if each person from the 7-8 billion people on this planet got their own story and worldview. Nobody seems to agree upon what is true and what is false. What is moral and what is immoral .what is good and what is bad . There are hundreds of religions with hundreds of sects..and each religion claims to be the one and only true path that one should follow in life. And that all other religions are delusional. The priests say Jesus christ is the only way ..I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. -john 14:6. and the imams claim that the quran and Islam is the only way leading to heaven in the after life . Whoever seeks a way other than Islam,it will never be accepted from them, and in the Hereafter they will be among the losers.-quran :chapter 2:85 Look at motivational speakers ,public intellectuals ,philosophers, thinkers ,scientists etc..everyone is preaching different ideas and ideologies. Everyone is suggesting different ways of approaching life in all its domains. Why is that? I think Truth should be obvious and clear .why almost no two fucking persons agree upon almost any subject (of course I'm exaggerating a bit)? What's the root cause of diversity in opinions in any field, whether its science, religion, philosophy, politics etc? And you can tell ..that 90% of people are completely full of shit . They don't have the truth .but they think they do. Everyone is confident that he has the truth .to me ..I refuse dogma and prefer to stay open minded and flexible to entertain all worldviews and not get stuck on one .but that's just me. either I'm crazy ..or the whole world is crazy .
  14. @Leo Gura thanks for the reminder. I feel like this speaks to me. I admit I am wrong when I am convinced that I actually am, but I don't budge while still having doubts just to resolve conflicts or please my opponent. I also do not care what my opponent thinks of me admitting defeat because if they are a rational person, they will accept it and move on. If they make fun of me, I would assume they did not evolve mentally past their teenage years and not engage with them anymore. It is not difficult for me to admit my mistakes. But what difficult is trying to understand the root of the mistakes. What drives me to make that mistake and what factors are involved. Why do I feel a certain way or what makes me do that. Only one who knows all things and is without error should find such an admission difficult. Since I neither know all things and am full of errors, it’s not difficult at all.
  15. Yes, there are dozens of such centers where I live .10 days vipassanna retreat. But I have some excuses to not join one. A few points I found interesting are that firstly we have layers upon layers of memories and trauma buried in our bodies that we have no idea about. On one of these retreats you will begin to uncover and work through a whole Lotta stuff that you didn’t even know you were carrying. In the end though you will find that you walk out 50 pounds spiritually lighter. It will be extremely challenging. Well let's try it experientially .. Close your eyes.. Strip away all sensory input... Just imagine removing reality out of existence .. Toss . Spot the now in the middle of it all. Find it. Identify as that. Is that what you mean ? Because what comes to my mind is a black void . And I haven't ever experienced a black void in my life .so if that's what you mean by pure consciousness then I'm not sure if I understand you correctly. I obviously agree . Did you do any psychedelics yourself?
  16. Thanks Carl. Well ,I really really tried to find psychedelics .I almost searched the whole of Google to find weed dealers in India or even in a near country that I could travel to which is Thailand. And until now I haven't found one . Also ,are psychedelics mandatory for having a mystical experience? there are countless reports of profound spiritual and mystical experiences that have occurred in the absence of psychedelics. These days I'm experimenting with lucid dreaming .not sure if that is good enough . As for meditation...I don't need a retreat filled with a bunch of hippies lol.i think that's antithetical to the essence of meditation. I meditate at home or out in nature .perfectly alone. That isn't saying much .
  17. I see what you're saying. I just wanted a clarification on what do you mean by infinity. And I think I got it now. You say "the bottomless void of consciousness" ..that seems like a huge abstraction that has no actuality in direct experience. So I ask you to clarify further what do you mean by that? My own understanding of infinity is It's like you took a bottle of ink and you threw it at a wall. Smash! And all that ink spread. And in the middle, it's dense, isn't it? And as it gets out on the edge, the little droplets get finer and finer and make more complicated patterns, see? So in the same way, there was a big bang at the beginning of things and it spread. And you and I, sitting here in this room, as complicated human beings, are way, way out on the fringe of that bang. We are the complicated little patterns on the end of it.
  18. Great . So you did experience infinity on 5 meo . Im not here to doubt your experience. I just want to point out that the word "infinity " is being overused on the forum without understanding what it really means. Some believe it means the universe is infinitely big in size and that there is no beginning or end to time ..is that what you mean by virtue of your experience of infinity? I prefer the term illusion. Just like a mirage in the desert. If you mean by it that something appears differently than what it actually is. How do you know that? Of course we don’t know. We don't know what's "outside the observable universe”. we’re talking about regions of the universe with no causal connection to our own. Therefore, for all we know, there may be pink unicorns there, or flying spaghetti monsters.but is that what you mean by reality being infinite ? I do actually believe that the universe is probably infinite, but that is based on the fact that we see no indications of either edges or wraparound.
  19. May I ask why ? Yeah ..I used to like winter when I was a child because of the rain and the snow ...but as I grew older I started hating it . And the Sewage here sucks .so the streets are always filled with dirt and water which makes talking a walk very difficult. Lol
  20. Why are there anything at all ? Its not just the existence of body that you should ponder. It's the existence of everything.
  21. Why are you calling it the "false " appearance? Appearance is absolutely true .if you appear to be finite then that's literally what is true .that you are finite. Falsehood doesn't exist. That's what the term implies. If you make a distinction between Truth and Falsehood then you are falling into duality . If you set the infinite and the finite as opponents of each other ..then you are falling into duality . I have said that infinity = truth . But you don't start your spiritual path with a preconceived idea that the truth is infinity. You seek truth, whatever that turns out to be . Maybe you end up discovering the reality is limited .what do you do then? Contradict your direct experience because you’ve been brainwashed that truth equals infinity? Without the mind you couldn't type a single word from this post .why are you demonising the mind?
  22. I'm the most intelligent person ever . I'm the most happy person ever . I'm the most confident person ever . I'm the most enlightened person ever . I only care about my well being. I only wish happiness and love to all creation. I'm God himself. In my disposal all that is in the heavens and the earth. What else could I ever want ?
