  1. Despite leftist assertions that Marxism/communism is end all be all-the central question becomes: can democracy flourish under such a system? Fascism, Marxism and Communism of 20th century were the same in that they fundamentally anti democratic. People fail to see this. It’s hard for me to take serious any intellectuals that hold these ideologies sacred while benefiting from the fruits of being in a functional democracy (which we are on the verge of losing in US and Western Europe). Marxist and Communist ideologues are fools at the end of the day in that they are neither critical thinkers, nor system thinkers. They operate of group think and cultural fads. It’s time to come to grips with the truth of how corrupt the ideologies are and how they have failed. This is not an endorsement of technocratic centrism and western liberalism in any way- they deserve critique as well. However, some systems will be the foundation and springboard to elevating global systems and economies over lessers ones. You can’t use Soviet style Marxism and Communism as a launch pad- it will devolve into corruption, totalitarianism and authoritarianism as in Stalins case. It’ll even devolve into full blown fascism ironically. We need to start asking the question of how we both protect our democratic institutions while at the same time taking them to the next level. A lot of it has to do with oligarchic influence corrupting our democracies. This will not be solved by Marxist revolution of any sort, but something higher and more conscious.
  2. what would pro capitalist leftism look like in theory and practice? Can that even be a thing? We seem to always equate leftism to Marxism and Communism in the culture.
  3. Wise liberals, leftist and progressives will clearly see Charlie Kirk’s murder as a blow to the very ideals they stand for, and a regression of democratic and liberal ideals. Stuff like this unites MAGA and the right. They feed off of violence and dysfunction. It also legitimizes their claims that leftist should be eradicated-through means that don’t exclude violence given recent events. This widens their influence on political narratives. If you call your self a leftist or progressive- and are unable to see this, you are in a way immature and don’t see how this will backfire and paint you into a corner you can’t get out of. Stop debating and get real-it’s a time for self reflection and honesty. Just listen to Kirk’s wife, there’s a confrontational element to it: https://youtu.be/1KogDLBZ8hM?si=GmgNSrhuQe6jweIO

  5. what do feel about Charlie Kirk getting murdered? Not necessarily what you think about it. People being entitled to the right to live is a thought, construct (which we create many beliefs behind). Point is-feelings and thoughts are two distinct things. On the level of thought-people think many things about what happened, and its a distraction from paying attention to how they feel- about themselves, about others and the world at large. Those feelings are important to process while all the monkey business is going on social media. People are losing their minds
  6. rights are inventions- but nonetheless-we can't deny how shitty it feels to see someone die on camera. Thats a first person experience, nothing invented about it for sure
  7. Have you ever mourned the destruction / death of your enemy? Contemplate what that would take - they would have to cease being your enemy. What would that process entail?
  8. Revisiting this episode to help navigate all the perspectival chaos in the media from all this:
  9. Of course there is no universal law. But just because there isn’t doesn’t mean we condone this kind of violence to those having opposing political views or worldviews in general. This same kind of thinking that got peacemakers killed. When figures like MLK, Ghandi & Lincoln were assassinated- there were many who felt they deserved it. Charlie Kirk was not a peace maker by any means-but the same justifications and rationalizations for his killing are being used We need to acknowledge how nuance this topic of political violence is.
  10. this thread is spiraling. We don't know the killer nor the motive yet. What we do know is a man lost his life today for invoking his first amendment rights granted to him by the US Constitution, decency goes a long way if you're a US citizen (even if you disagree) All of what's going on here is a reflection of where we are as a nation
  11. Trump is already propagandizing the public, blames radical left in his address: This will certainly be used as cannon fodder to go after the political enemies of MAGA !
  12. That is fair, you did not mention Charlie Kirk specifically, my bad. I do hear you on the relativity of political violence, however-I can't see this recent event turning out to be good US democracy and political discourse, at least in short to mid term. But that's me- maybe my view is too limited. MLK was assassinated in similar fashion- was that a good? Depends on who you talk to-for white supremacist, yes. Did it strengthen the civil rights movement? To a degree it did- but what if he survived, would we have more progress? All these are open questions.
  13. Maybe good for folks living in Japan today Relatively speaking ... if we were in Japan in 1945, I'm sure we wouldn't think this way
  14. Are you insinuating that Charlie Kirk's assassination will lead to some positive progressive change in US democracy?
  15. What worldview? Seems like you are making a charitable case for political violence, but i don't want to assume. What is your position?
  16. in the spirit of truth seeking, and existential inquiry- is this actually true? God's hands are in everything. Even tragedy is LOVE in the end!
  17. Surprised why it isn't obvious to people that political violence is not a good look-no matter what cause behind it, is not a good look for any country looking to preserve its democracy. Trump laid the groundwork for this with the Jan 6 invasion on Capitol Hill-but not a single MAGA head will admit Charlie Kirk's death is a result of the corruption of US politics which they contribute greatly. We have long lost the days of respectful political discourse.
  18. Sounds pleasant- but when fascist come knocking at your ready to take you to the gas chambers, its a different story. Not saying that will happen, but you get my point
  19. Seems like the equivalent of putting your head in the sand. Truth is we are in a very tumultuous situation in our current political environment. We are in the beginning phases of the erosion of American democratic values. Charlie Kirk being shot and killed is a bi-product. Sad and unfortunate, but it's the reality nonetheless.
  20. Trump confirms Charlie Kirk dead on Truth Social: https://www.bbc.com/news/live/c206zm81z4gt?post=asset%3A7e2f698a-fcc0-41b0-84ac-b7e01c1d6d56#post
  21. People feel like they have no alternative. We live in a country where 77 million citizens casted a vote for this buffoon. That leaves a scar on democracy that will almost never heal (very, very challenging at best case).
  22. Better to frame it as there are multiple styles and approaches to truth. One approach is through the masculine, the other is feminine. Two different ships headed to the same island. Masculine is able to traverse certain terrains more easily than the feminine and vice versa. What is common is the desire and value of Truth to the individual captains onboard. Each will have to make sacrifices in their own unique way, that is inconvenient to both masculine survival and feminine survival.
