IMO the problem is confusing the states with who they are as awareness, it doesn't matter if you become God, ant, human, it's just different states of awareness, the awareness itself is changless and permanent, and you are it, please understand.

Ego, is just bunch of thoughts, don't worry about it too much! Do you really experience anything other than thoughts which are called ego? To me having those concerns is something you don't want to have really, because you give power to something which doesn't exist actually by thinking and worrying about it too much, are you peaceful and calm person in general? Or can any meditation bring some peace of mind to you? If so then don't you worry about anything about ego, every thing will be fine as you progress in this path

In higher stages you are not ego developing, you are ego surrendering when you know you need to be in spiritual path, you are already developed enough.

In a ego-mind transcended stage, well you don't have a mind to think about "other areas of life" that doesn't mean you become stupid, no, your mind simply will be transcended! Survival is also only belongs to ego-mind, so in spiritual path, that you'd surrender ego as you progress, you care less and less care about worldy stuff and more and more loving and peaceful!

am i really this peaceful and happy all the time if i just let go of the thoughts? where's all those bad emotions and thoughts that were in mind just before i started meditating?

What's ego? ego is not an entity of its own! you never experience any ego! is there two selves inside you? no! only thoughts! and thoughts in their nature appear and disappear, you are not attached to thoughts! otherwise you'd have to appear and disappear along with thoughts also! you only give power to them! so stop that let them go, they appear and disappear! who cares? don't be afraid of something which doesn't exist actually!

I don't know about the relation between this phenomena and colonoscopy but IMO the reason it happens from the base of the spine to the top of the head is that, it's going to connect your lower self to the higher self (Muladhara chakra to Sahasrara chakra), so all dualities will collapse.

You cant ask why God is himself! Being is Love, and there's only one being, sit and directly experience it by surrendering your false self!
