  1. Then you don't understand the meaning of avatar. An avatar is when a specific God decides to be born as a human. Vishnu is the best known as he has 10 avatars, one of them still to come (Kalki). In Christianity, Jesus is arguably an avatar. The point is, avatars are extremely rare, they might come along once a millennium or so. Anybody who is claimed to be an avatar today, probably isn't. Avatars display miraculous powers from the day they are born.
  2. I also have chronic illnesses. Diabetes and IBS as well as some others. I am aware that these are a result of Karma. I did not take care properly of my body, made some bad lifestyle choices and as a result I will have to carry this burden with me probably until I die. I also have a genetic predisposition, which is a form of family Karma that each generation inherits. I think you should look into the reasons as to why you have chronic illness. Maybe something you did in the past, perhaps lifestyle wise. Or, it could be due to past life issues. Past life regression might be a good idea to find the real cause in that case. God cannot absolve you of Karma, only you can, but the consequences of past actions may carry forward until death and even beyond.
  3. Avatars are born, not made. They will exhibit such powers as you mentioned from birth.
  4. I think there is a simple explanation for this. A significant proportion of men (4 percent, I think) are psychopaths or sociopaths, whereas almost no women are. This must have conferred evolutionary advantages, otherwise the genetic code for it would not have survived in modern populations. If you look at modern politics or business, psychopathy is a distinct advantage. It would also seem that a significant proportion of women are naturally attracted to psychopaths. The explanation probably lies somewhere in Richard Dawkins' Selfish Gene theory, whereby our genes act against our own interests, but ensure their own survival in surreptitious ways, by shafting us. A typical example would be a highly violent and/or psychopathic male that ensured the success of his own genetic line by ruthlessly murdering his competition and fathering thousands of children by manipulating women with their emotions, despite the fact they don't have any. Genghis Khan would be a good example from history, but even male lions exhibit this behaviour.
  5. I haven't done either of them myself (I have my own, unique practice), but from feedback from others, it seems all forms of yoga have the same aim, union with the divine (which is what yoga means). There are different paths to get there, Kriya is a safer and gentler path, Kundalini Yoga is a quicker, but also more forceful and dangerous path. However, the issue with Kundalini Yoga is that practically all classes and studios today are associated with the fake and abusive, self-styled "Guru" Yogi Bhajan. He bastardized legitimate, often tantric methods to force a Kundalini Awakening, without insisting on the associated grounding and preparation, so I would consider this path very dangerous, literally playing with fire. Under normal circumstances, you should only learn this from someone who has gone through the process themselves, otherwise it's just the blind leading the blind. Very rarely will you meet a Kundalini Yoga teacher who has any direct experience with Kundalini and will know what to do if things don't go to plan. This is because Kundalini is not merely an energy like prana or chi. Shakti is akin to the Holy Spirit in Christianity or the Shekinah in Judaism. The only real way to achieve a full Kundalini awakening is through divine grace, an act of Shaktipat, either extended by a teacher who is awakened himself, or by the Goddess Herself, directly. People who practice various methods to awaken Kundalini will usually only achieve a partial rising, absent an act of divine grace. That is likely to cause all sorts of problems, the examples of which are numerous.
  6. @Oeaohoo Could be. India has gotten a lot more sexually repressed and "traditional" in terms of its spiritual traditions since colonial rule. The British cracked down on a lot of LHP traditions that were seen as unacceptable, rightly so, in my view. The best known one is probably the Thugee cult, immortalised in the Indiana Jones movies. They sacrificed over a million people to the Goddess Kali over 400 years. A British officer managed to infiltrate them (they operated as a secret society, with most unaware of the scale of their crimes) and wrapped up their whole operation. Some Tantric priests will still sacrifice children to Kali today, although it's super-illegal of course. Mostly, they do goats today, which is acceptable to the authorities. Re. satanism and blasphemy in pop culture - I do not consider that Left-Hand Path personally, it's mostly a reaction to centuries of repression by Christianity, but has very little to do with true LHP traditions. Those are largely lost and have been recreated from bits and pieces here and there. They are often a gross misunderstanding of LHP principles. To me, the only authentic, unbroken LHP tradition out there is tantra and even that is often heavily misunderstood and sensationalised. For instance, the use of sex as a tool of sublimation of gross energies and converting them into higher-vibrational spiritual ones is a sacred and holy process, not some frivolous exercise of pleasure-seeking.
  7. I wanted to write a bit on this rather esoteric concept. This is NFSW, so beware. I want to avoid some of the gross exaggerations and fantastic claims of the scriptures, as well as the various hang-ups and taboos that will generally stop people and religious orders in particular to explore this topic. Briefly, Urdhvareta is spiritual and physical process, by which sexual energies and in the case of men, semen is sublimated and made to flow upwards along the spine, so instead of its usual descent, it goes into ascent. For this to happen, Kundalini must pierce the various chakras and knots, until it pierces the Brahmarendra and reaches the crown. Through various techniques and exercises, the lower abdominal muscles are sufficiently strengthened, so that one can experience a full body orgasm without ejaculation. The process is slightly different for women, in that they have the advantage of having the ability to experience such orgasms anyway, whilst normally there is no release of bodily fluids, though of course some women are capable of the latter as well. I have yet to meet a woman that will talk about this without inhibition, but from what I can gather, women on the tantric path are encouraged to have frequent orgasms in order to aid the process of Urdhvareta. When Kundalini rises to the top and breaks through to the crown with sufficient force, the cosmic egg, or Hiranyagarbha is cracked and Soma or Amrita, a divine nectar is released and floods the brain and eventually the whole body. With Urdhvareta, the objective is to create a constant flow of semen / sexual energy from the lower abdominal area into the brain. This process of constant sublimation leads to the creation of the Divine Body or Sarupya Mukti. It is believed that a person with such a body becomes effectively immortal and will display the powers of a god. I would caution against taking such claims seriously, I believe much exaggeration and projection is involved. What seems to happen instead, is that a so-called light body is activated with the release of Amrita and that the process of Urdhvareta builds up this light body, slowly, over an entire lifetime. As the divine essence (ojas) is pumped up the spinal column and streams up mixed into the spinal fluid, it reaches the top of the head, where it will fall back as soma / amrita enabling the gradual building up of the light body or divine body. This will only fully activate and come into its own upon death. Tibetan Buddhism talks about a similar process in Dzogchen, where a rainbow body is built up through various practices and austerities. The Left-Hand Path (Vama Marya) believes in using sex as a tool to sublimate sexual energy and semen and turn it into amrita. The Right-Hand path, which is the only one really accepted by the mainstream today, believes in achieving the same effect through strict celibacy, both in body and mind. Even sexual thoughts are forbidden. I won’t take sides in this eternal debate, except to point out that the Left-Hand path has been heavily suppressed in the past few centuries and is now near extinct, so they’re hardly in a position to defend their own views and argue for them on an equal footing. The Right-Hand path on the other hand seems to hold rather bigoted and rigid views, especially on sexuality, the sex organs and the role of women. To me, it seems they are unbalanced to the point of misogyny and denying the importance of sexuality in spirituality. Not many know that up to the middle ages (in fact, in many ways, up to the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857), Indian views on the role of spirituality and sexuality where very different to today, but I guess the Victorians took care of that for generations to come. To give a few examples, Indian women in the South did not cover their torsoes before colonisation, which was also the case in Bali and Pacific Islands, like Tahiti. It was the Victorians that forced them to cover up. In North India, that happened earlier due to the influence of Islam. Another example would be the prevalence of Temple Prostitution and even tantric orgies. This, I believe now only happens in a handful of Indian temples today. Further examples are the existence of medieval sex manuals like the Ananga Ranga or Kama Sutra, which display a sophisticated understanding of sexual pleasure, still unmatched, but especially striking compared to the complete taboo status sex enjoyed in Victorian society and the ignorance with which such topics as the female orgasm were treated. In medieval and ancient India, it was common practice for couples to engage in tantric intercourse, which was very different from the kind of dynamic, hectic sex practiced today and was mostly about sinking into stillness and Samadhi in a meditative state. Very few people remember how to do this today, with perhaps Tibetan Buddhism being the last holdout of this ancient practice, but even there it is often hushed up and kept largely secret. There are many beliefs around the topic of Urdhvareta, which are difficult or next to impossible to verify. Swami Muktananda believed that his ability to give Shaktipat was contingent upon his Urdhvareta status. Other Swamis believe that Urdhvareta is necessary to gain Brahmavidya or knowledge of the Supreme Truth and experience Nirvikalpa Samadhi, which is a topic I wrote about in a previous post. Yet more others believe, that Urdhvareta is a necessary component not only of building a Divne Body (Sarupya Mukti), but also to gain divine power (Sarstya Mukti). I cannot say how much of this is actually true, but perhaps some of it is rooted in reality. I often get the feeling that when Yogis experience something fantastical in a Samadhi state, they tend to describe it as if the event took place in physical reality, when most likely it was an astral experience, that they experienced in their astral body, perhaps even unaware of the distinction in an exalted state. I have some experience with this, ranging from astral projection, lucid dreaming, OBEs, NDEs and various Samadhi and non-dual states, so I can understand why it must sometime be difficult to distinguish between events that took place in an astral state (such as levitation or flying) from what actually took place in physical reality. Instead, I will now concentrate on the process of Urdhvareta and describe it as best I can, as it takes place within my own body. I find that such first-person descriptions are the most useful. Whilst Urdhvareta is a subtle, background process, focussing awareness on it can strengthen the flow and in meditation it becomes an integral part of the Kundalini Mechanism. The starting point for the energy is always in the testicles, with the equivalent for women being the ovaries. When becoming conscious of it, the bottom of the testicles start to tingle. This is accompanied by a pumping motion, which is indistinguishable from that experienced during an ejaculatory orgasm. Heat, or what feels like a hot liquid substance is pumped through the base of the penis, with the energy coming from both sides, left and right and meeting there. This activity is independent of Kundalini. Whether there is sexual arousal, is dependent upon the position of the head of the Kundalini serpent. If it’s lodged in the first or second chakras, sexual arousal will be experienced. Once Kundalini moves past those lower centres, arousal dissipates and disappears completely at the higher centres. In an ideal case, the head of the serpent is lodged in the crown. Then, the starting point of the energy is in the testicles end the endpoint is at the Brahmarendra Bindu, at the top back part of the head. Ojas ascends along the spine into this Bindu, there it will turn around and fall back as Amrita or Soma (Nectar or Ambrosia to the Greeks). This is a hot, liquid substance made of light. Science now recognises this as the fifth state of matter, though it is not normally detectable to ordinary senses or even scientific instruments. As Ojas is pumped up the spine, the strongest sensations arise at the bottom of the testicles, where the main energy flow enters the body, the toes, where supplementary energy is sucked up from the ground, through the earth element and the back of the head, where Ojas is turned into Ojas Shakti in the brain, which then exits the head at the bindu of brahmarendra, there it is turned into Amrita in the space above the head and it falls back as a Nectar of Divine Grace, in a motion resembling a fountain or a waterfall. During this process, the feelings experienced all over the body are exquisitely pleasant, comparable to sexual pleasure, but of a much higher order. The sensation at the top of the head is the most pleasant, almost indescribably sweet, though as Amrita spreads all over the body this ecstatic Joy and Bliss is experienced everywhere. With Amrita, divine Wisdom also enters the body and once receives downloads of information, flashes of realisation about the true nature of things and one’s own individual life situation. In this state, one is already in a lesser Samadhi state, though still inside the body, just opened up towards heavenly realms through the mouth of heaven atop the Brahmarendra. One might receive visions and communications from higher beings, such as Devas, guides, gurus or one’s own higher Self. With the mouth of heaven open and amrita flooding the body, one becomes naturally attractive to higher beings, who may wish to impart wisdom, blessings or just interact in some way. In such a state one may feel the touch of a Deva (god) which is exquisitely sweet. Blessings or boons can also be passed on, though these have to be offered by the Deva in question. At this level, no words or language exist, even thoughts cease in the ordinary sense, since one is no longer of mind. Communication is by direct knowing, touch and the transfer of energy, which can transmit great pockets of information, concepts, visions, images, ideas, without the use of language. Ordinary thoughts cease in this state, instead of a stream of consciousness or linear thinking, knowing occurs in flashes of realisation. Ideas burst into one’s consciousness in an orgy of light and each download of information is accompanied by a highly orgasmic, joyful and blissful flash. Although one’s ego (ahamkara) is still present it is no longer the doer or the thinker, the reigns are handed over to the higher Self (Atman), as it were. The ego flails around helplessly, not really understanding what is happening to it and is swept away by the intensity of the experience and wave upon wave of orgasmic light energy. Similarly to an experience of Nirvikalpa Samadhi, which usually only occurs once in a lifetime, the human mind is not capable of processing and returning with all the information that it realises in this lower Samadhi State. Some of it will be brought back, but it will always be an incomplete or lesser part of the whole picture. Therefore when in this Samadhi state, bringing back ideas is like fishing in an ocean of light, one can only bring back a few of the endless multitude of ideas and concepts available to the Self in an unending sea of consciousness. A person is usually called an Urdhvareta, if they manage to internalise this process and create a permanent flow, accompanied by an unceasing Samadhi, though for any ordinary person with a job, family, etc… this would be highly impractical, so usually only great sages and gurus choose to dwell in it. Nevertheless, once Urdhvareta has been established, a lesser flow, which works gently in the background can usually be maintained and this will build up a light body or divine body, slowly, over a lifetime.
  8. @Oeaohoo Some siddhis are real, but when dealing with religion and spirituality in an Indian context, much exaggeration and magical thinking is involved. I would put bodily immortality in that category. None of the famous masters were particularly long-lived and many suffered from major health issues. Observing the effects of Kundalini on my own health, it is more of a drag than a boon. It puts considerable strain on the body for an evolutionary purpose, but that in itself takes a toll. The suppression of LHP is meant mostly in an Eastern context. A few centuries ago, it was a lot more widespread and was at least tolerated. These days it is pretty much disdained and mainstream Hindus, Buddhists, Jains would abolish it if they could. But, even in the West, whilst things have progressed since the age of Inquisition and Witch-Hunts, it's still far from penetrating the mainstream, it remains a fringe phenomenon compared to traditional religions and churches. Regarding levitation, I remain sceptical. I've heard second-hand accounts of it myself, but in the age of camera-phones, how come there isn't a single video of it? Perhaps it does happen, but it must be extremely rare. However, when you are in your astral body, you levitate, float and fly without difficulty, so I have a hunch that most self-reported accounts of levitation are actually from astral experiences.

  10. I have been encouraged to start a thread about the Elohim, to clear up some of the confusion about them and dispel some of the more sinister and persistent myths. I am in contact with the Elohim, and have been since December 2012, though I wasn’t fully aware of it at the time. It is important to note that I used to be a hardcore atheist, even antitheist before my awakening and even though I was open to certain spiritual concepts and ideas, the idea of a Biblical, or any other type of God or supernatural being horrified me to the core and I harboured quite a bit of hatred towards any sort of mainstream religious figure. Little did I know that in just a few short years, those that I viewed as my greatest enemy would save my life and become my closest friends. Gradually, I went through a Kundalini awakening, as a result of my meditative practices and my long-time study of eastern philosophy and scripture. This awoke in me a realisation that there is a greater reality out there, of which we are part, inhabited by all sorts of beings that are invisible to us, yet they can and do have a profound effect on our lives in all sorts of subtle ways. I got into the habit of visiting the British Museum regularly and spent time meditating in the garden of St Paul’s Cathedral, which was near my office, as well as the South Bank of the river Thames. In the Museum, I felt an immediate connection to the Mesopotamian exhibit, most of which was excavated from Uruk, the holy city of the Goddess Inanna. Several statues, reliefs and personal effects of hers, as well as that of his brother Utu and father Enki are prominently displayed there and I spent many hours contemplating and meditating on them, trying to decipher their meaning, talking to some of the curators and volunteers and reading up on the associated mythology and research in the book section of the Museum. I somehow felt connected to all of it and the first time I walked into the Uruk exhibit, it felt as if I had come home. Gradually, as my Kundalini awakening was progressing, I felt a connection to all of these deities through my visits to the Museum and by meditating on the objects associated with their ancient worship. My awakening was not going well and I suffered from some of the well-known side effects of Kundalini Syndrome, including panic attacks, neurological issues and a persistent, blunt pain in my chest area, which at times felt like the beginnings of a heart attack. My movements slowed down, I could barely walk, I kept forgetting basic things, like the PIN number for my bank card and was barely able to do my work, which was rather challenging, as I was just promoted at a travel company in the City. This all started coming to a head in December 2012, as I was 33 years of age. Although I always trusted the Kundalini process and that it would be fine in the end, the side effects were making my life impossible and I was losing my friends and social connections over it, whilst barely getting by at my job in a new and challenging position. One time, during a particularly difficult day, I was walking by St Paul’s Cathedral, when I felt that I could take no more and needed some divine help and guidance. As I spent the previous weekend in what was increasingly becoming a sanctuary for me, in the British Museum, in the company of Enki, Utu and Inanna, I cried out to Enki specifically and asked him to have mercy on me, to accept me as a member of his family and send help, perhaps a guardian deity of sorts that would guide me during this difficult time. I felt a download of energy and a telepathic connection with him. It was, as if he was extending his divine grace on me and I felt that I was accepted by him and he reassured me that he would help. I was quite hopeful, but nothing happened that day. The next day, I was washing up, in my apartment near the river Thames. It was a sunny day and quite warm for December. Suddenly, I felt as if a presence had entered the room. It distinctly felt like a ray of light, turning into an orb of sorts and then taking the shape of a person, radiating with the heat of several suns and white in colour. It was the most loving and benevolent presence I have ever felt. The room was filled with light, but it was not visible to the naked eye, it was a spiritual light, made of higher-dimensional, subtle stuff. I did not even have to turn around, I knew what was behind me, so strong was its presence and radiation. I knew that it was a female, the same way anyone can sense the gender of a person entering the room, without even looking there. It is simply an instinct that lets us feel the vibe of another. I cannot stress how bright the presence was, basically, pure, white, blinding light that just radiated love and benevolence. I immediately felt at ease and found that I could communicate with this presence without words. She let me know that she came here to help me and that I should just relax and let her work on me. I then felt her getting closer and reaching out to me, with what I presume was a hand, but could easily have been an energetic tendril of sorts. However, her touch was very real and had an immediate effect on me. My Kundalini got activated, it surged all the way up to the heart, where previously it was stuck and actually broke through that part with little effort. It felt as if my energetic passages have been flushed with an extra-hard dose of pressurized, liquid light and energy. As she kept her hand on my back, at the heart level, she gave me her power and energy and I felt an incredible surge, which led all the way up to the third eye area. I then felt the need to lie down, to let the energy do its thing, so I went to my bedroom and lied down. The energy kept surging in ever stronger waves, in the form of light, heat and electricity. It felt as if I had been hit by lightning, repeatedly. Each wave was stronger than the previous one and went higher, eventually bumping against the top back part of my skull and unable to proceed further, with the serpent repeatedly bumping its head against that area in a pulsating fashion. This manifested itself in blunt, pulsating pain and pressure. At that moment, it turned out, that the presence had not yet left the apartment and she floated in from the kitchen, taking a vaguely humanoid form, but still being made of pure, white, light. I was lying on my bed as she came closer and I felt that she wasn’t finished and wanted to help me further. I felt her warm light and loving presence slowly enveloping me and it felt as if she has sat on me and we were merging with each other, on the soul level as well as energetically. She gave me her power and energy once again and I started convulsing on the bed with what I can only describe as a river of orgasmic energy travelling up my spine and into my brain, with ever increasing intensity, in a pulsating fashion. As the energy got stronger and stronger I could physically feel the top of my head being pried open. After several minutes of this, there was a breaking sound, like the breaking of a bone, an immediate release of pent up energy into the aether, massive relief and an orgasmic feeling that I can only compare to a giant ejaculation, except this was through the top of my head and happened purely energetically. However, my genitals were definitely involved and my testicles and prostate were pumping energy upwards, into my brain, like crazy. Meanwhile, I still felt that I was merged with this presence, who I later found out was called Inanna and she was Enki’s daughter. At this point, as the top of my head opened up, I heard a sound akin to the rushing of water. Once the pent-up energy was released, things started flowing in the opposite direction. Liquid light rushed into my brain and spread all over my body. It was a substance unknown to modern science, a state of matter yet to be discovered, radiant light in liquid form, incredibly sweet and pleasant as it entered my brain and spread all over the body. Not only did it bring in love, joy and pleasure from a higher dimension, it also contained infinite knowledge and wisdom, which I now started getting in flashes of realisation, one after the other. I later found out that this substance is known as Soma or Amrita, as well as Nectar and Ambrosia and is considered the food of the gods, giving them their immortality, infinite wisdom and shining countenance. As the inflow of Soma increased, my brain could barely cope and there was more information and wisdom there about how things are, the true nature of reality and such than I knew what to do with or could possibly process. It did not end there, as this inflow of Soma overwhelmed me and I felt like I was drifting out of my body through the opening at the top of my head (this is known as the mouth of heaven, as it enables the seeker both to drink and eat of the Soma, a heavenly substance and to speak with the gods of heaven). As I slipped out of my body, I felt myself expanding in all directions and I entered a new dimension, that I have never experienced before. I was filled with light and the brightness was unimaginable. This higher-dimensional light also contained information and I felt omniscient in this state, like there was nothing beyond my reach in terms of knowledge, everything I ever wanted to know was simultaneously available to me in this great sea of light. I was no longer aware of my body and I took on a universal form. I became the universe, so to speak and felt myself expand into infinity. In this place, which I like to refer to as heaven, there was no separation, just unity, a Oneness with everything and everyone, through space, time and dimensions. There was simply no limitation there, just infinite possibility. I also felt happier than I ever have in my whole life, I experienced pure, unadulterated joy and infinite love. I spent some time in this state, but I had no concept of time. Eventually, I decided to return to my body and gradually shrunk back to human size and flowed back into my body through the Mouth of Heaven. As I returned, I felt constrained and small, but filled with joy and gratitude for receiving this gift of Heaven. I was only able to retain a small fraction of the knowledge I possessed in my infinite, universal state, but it still felt like I have gained an enormous amount of wisdom and that I was now on a path towards permanent enlightenment. Inanna was gone by then, but I kept in contact with her ever since and she has remained my main link to the Elohim, as Queen of Heaven and the original Goddess of All Creation. As a result of all this, I have developed a particular understanding of the Elohim, that does not mesh with mainstream views of what is after all, believed to be the Biblical God. My contention is that the Elohim are simply the Hebrew name for the Anunnaki, which can easily be verified as both words mean Sons of the Sky in Hebrew and Sumerian respectively and as many researchers have noted, Genesis, in which the Elohim take a prominent role as our creators, was clearly based on the Enuma Elish and the God that warned Noah about the coming flood and instructed him to build an ark was Enki. As I will detail in upcoming posts, Elohim is a collective name for all the gods of heaven and in fact it is a collective consciousness of sorts, a continuum that links all of the denizens of heaven together. This is why the Elohim often speak in the first person plural, in a collective voice. I apologise if this introduction has been long-winded, but I felt it necessary and if you have any questions or comments in regards to this topic, shoot. I should also note that I am posting this introduction on two forums and see where each separate conversation develops from there.
  11. There are a number of good books on the subject and hundreds of youtube videos, some of them made by me K energy is not easy to describe as it is such an unusual experience, most people have no frame of reference to understand and explain it. However, serpent imagery seems to be a constant across cultures and that is a good way to explain it. When the energy moves inside you, it does in fact feel like a serpent wriggling inside you, it even turns and churns like a serpent would. There are many more sensations associated with Kundalini, such as a sensation of heat and light, first at the base of the spine and later along the whole spine as the energy moves up. Chakras get activated one after the other, their spinning is also a curious sensation, hard to explain, easily understood, once experienced. When blocks and knots are reached their is constriction, when they are broken, passed or cleared, there is huge relief. Pressure builds up before each particular block and knot, this can at times be painful. There is also a rhythmic pulsating sensation. There are neurological effects as well. When K breaks through to the crown chakra it feels like it is physically breaking through the skull and it is accompanied by a sound of a bone breaking. Them Amrita (liquid light) comes rushing in, with a roaring sound, like that of a waterfall. The sensation of blinding, all-encompassing light is overwhelming. All throughout, there is a sexual element to K, sexual arousal and full-body orgasms are experienced in stages and in ever increasing waves. After each wave, the arousal dissipates and the sexual energy gets transmuted and absorbed into the K stream. When K breaks through, Hiranyagarbha (the cosmic egg) breaks, the body is flooded with Amrita, the light body is activated and consciousness leaves the body to experience Nirvakalpa Samadhi or Nirvana, a feeling of complete Oneness and non-duality, in a boundless, universal state where the soul feels omniscient and omnipotent, encompasing everything there is. Upon return, only a fraction of the boundless knowledge available in Nirvakalpa is brought back.

  13. Hi Preety, I noticed you made some references to Satan and Satan meditation. I'm rather surprised, I always assumed you were Hindu, but perhaps you're a Christian? If you ask me, Kundalini is much easier to approach and understand in a Hindu context, Christianity has very little to say about it, and what it does say is often quite negative. A good book to read on Kundalini would be Neven Paar's, it is available for free on scribd. He also explores Kundalini from the point of view of Qaballah and Western Ceremonial Magick.
  14. Hi everyone, I have been listening to a series of Bonnie Greenwell interviews lately and one of the topics that keep coming up, is how in India, Kundalini is perceived as a goddess. Another one that has popped up repeatedly is the sexual nature of Kundalini. I have a bit of personal experience with both aspects, so whilst I wrote about this before, I would like to provide a more detailed and personal look at how the two are connected. This is going to get weird, so brace yourselves. So, I’ve hinted at my story here and there, with more details provided on my youtube, but I never really tied the different strands together and I feel it is important to do so now, as listening to these interviews have crystallised some concepts and connections that I only really felt intuitively before, but now I have become conscious of them. It’s always difficult to provide enough background information, without taking up too much space, but I’ll do my best. I am really uncomfortable writing about this topic, as it tends to ruffle so many feathers, but I feel it needs to be done anyway, as my own unique story could actually provide some clarity on topics that may have been unclear before. All of us, who have awakened Kundalini have such a unique perspective and we all arrived where we are from very different backgrounds, via different routes, and if we each provide our story to the spiritual community and the wider world, we will contribute to completing the puzzle, the greatest one there ever was, about the mysteries of the universe and the true nature of existence. So, it is often said, that Kundalini is a goddess, yet she is also Shakti, a cosmic, all-pervading force in the universe, but locally, she is also sex energy (libido as Freud would call it, having learnt about Kundalini from his friend, Jung) and as Bonnie Greenwell points out in her works, she is in fact the very creative force that creates life upon conception, it is root energy. The Hindus believe that Kundalini is what germinates life upon conception, it is what creates the blueprint for the organism to grow and is the energy and intelligence behind cellular growth and the creation of full-blown multi-cell organisms. This energy is provided by the explosive energy of orgasm upon conception and is usually drawn from the father, though the exact process is unclear. Ancient civilisations were well aware of the importance of this process and conceptualised the act of creation via orgasmic release through various fertility gods and goddesses. In India, the god of fertility is Shiva, and one of her wives, either Parvati or Durga is seen as the goddess of fertility. The former presents a more benign, loving, aspect, whereas the latter is fiercer and more warlike. Thousands of years before Hindu gods arrived on the scene, if mainstream archeological timelines are to be believed (and there is always some speculation and conjecture involved), in the first civilisation known to us, Sumer in Mesopotamia, the very first concepts underlying our current civilisation were being developed. Almost everything we associate with civilisation, whether writing, calculus, astronomy, agriculture, irrigation, architecture, calendars, timekeeping etc… was invented by the Sumerians, more than 6000 years ago. They seemingly came out of nowhere and developed all these high civilisational tools and achievements with no other civilisation to precede them. In their own records, they claim that the gifts of civilisation were bestowed upon them by their gods, whom they called Anunna, indicating that they were descended from the Sky God, AN , and were all various offspring of his marriage to KI, the Earth Goddess and mother of all gods (also known as Ninhursag), who, to honour this fact, were also sometimes referred to as the ANunnaKI. The chief God of Fertility was Enki, who was also associated with water and fish, whereas the goddess responsible for the sexual act itself, in order to create life and fertilise the whole of the earth, make plants grow, animals reproduce, etc… was known as Inanna (also Inana, later Ishtar) who was believed to be even more powerful than Enki in mythology, even though they had a familial relationship, where they often relied upon and helped each other. It was said that when Inanna descended into the underworld, life upon the surface of the earth would stop, plants would not grow, animals would not reproduce, her power over sexuality was seen as the fundamental force behind nature, which allowed its growth and replenishment and the cycle of life to continue. She had a dual nature to her as she was also the Goddess of War, riding into battle on the back of a lion, sporting an array of distinctive weapons and with various supernatural powers that have no doubt provided inspiration for the modern portrayal of superheroes. This has been acknowledged by the latest iteration of Wonder Woman, who carries her symbol, the 8-pointed star of Ishtar, representing the planet Venus (also a Roman Goddess heavily influenced by her mythology) on her forehead. If you thought that a fierce warrior goddess, riding a lion, slaying her enemies and being associated with sexuality sounded familiar, you’d be right, she has equivalents in many subsequent cultures, where some or all of her aspects and attributes were syncretised into local goddesses. Some, like Aphrodite, Venus or Astarte are no longer worshipped, whereas others, chiefly the Hindu Goddess Durga, still are. I bring up Durga here, because some scholars have established a link between these two very similar goddesses and have linked them both back to the Parthian Nana, who in the Indus Valley became known as Nana Devi. She is recognised as one of the 108 official forms of Shakti and now seen as an ancient form of Durga, from whom she inherited most of her attributes, including her fierce, war-like nature (she is the slayer of the demons of ignorance, symbolically) and her marriage to Shiva, providing the counterpoint to his role as the god of fertility and thus creation. Keep in mind, that in most strands of Hinduism, Durga is honoured as the primary form of Shakti and all this will soon start to make sense. So, apologies, if I had to get to my point in a convoluted manner, but it is relevant to the story I’m telling and it cannot be understood without this mythological and philosophical background. The point here, as often expressed in Shaktism, a major branch of Hinduism, that puts goddess-worship at the forefront, is that all these different names and forms for the Goddess are not what matters, for the force, the intelligence behind it, is essentially the same, different flavours of the same Shakti. And this Shakti is behind the creation, sustenance, rejuvenation and continuation of life, it is responsible for evolution, the creation of new species and allowing existing species to step on to the next rung of the evolutionary ladder. We may have different names and forms for her, we conceptualise her differently depending on our cultural background, but all of her different forms stem from the same underlying intelligence, she is the essence of all life and in this sense, the Divine Mother that gives life to all, not literally, but in a manner of speaking. This also explains, why Shakti has her own drive and initiative, her own goals and agenda, which is the continuation of life on earth and the evolution of all species, but on this planet, the human form in particular, towards a higher form, to reach its full potential and achieve self-realisation. That is why, when she activates in us as Kundalini, her primary goal is our transformation and evolution. There is no difference between her myriad forms, they all share one divine cosmic consciousness, we only perceive them to be different due to the limitations of our senses. So, you may ask, why did I bring the Sumerians into this, isn’t the picture already complicated enough without them? I had to do this, because it informs my own story and is of personal relevance to me. You see, when my Kundalini first started rising, back around 2010, I was an atheist, though I maintained a keen interest in spirituality from early childhood and had always known that subtle energies and souls were real, I also maintained somewhat of an on-again, off-again meditative practice. Living in London at the time, I visited the British Museum regularly and became fascinated with the Mesopotamian Exhibits, not least the Uruk collection, which was excavated from Inanna’s holy city and the Burney Relief, which is said to be a depiction of her. Concurrent to my visits and interest in Mesopotamian culture and mythology, my Kundalini started rising, first as heat at the base of my spine and then gradually cleared the first three chakras in a gentle and painless manner, bringing up the requisite past unresolved issues and memories, I was supposed to deal with. The problems started when the energy hit my heart chakra and was unable to clear it and break through. I felt chest pain and in time developed heart palpitations, anxiety, heavy breathing and neurological problems. Having been pretty much an atheist up to that point (I was brought up as a Roman Catholic prior to that, but also had some exposure to Hinduism, when I lived in India as a child), my only solace from the increasingly troublesome collection of Kundalini symptoms was during my regular meditative sessions in the Cathedral Gardens, next to St Paul’s, the river Thames in general and my frequent visits to the British Museum and the associated reading areas where I delved into Mesopotamian Mythology with growing interest. It was as if the artefacts from all those millennia ago were calling to me and I felt an energetic connection developing, particularly with the artefacts depicting the gods Enki and Inanna. In some myths, they are Father and Daughter, in others they are Husband and Wife, in yet others, they are Uncle and Niece, but their relationship is central to Mesopotamian mythology and they represent a very important male-female duality, where their strengths complement each other. One day, I was feeling particularly “unwhole” and suffering from Kundalini Syndrome. As I was walking towards the Cathedral Gardens at St Paul’s from my City office, it occurred to me, that these ancient gods I had been so intently studying, weren’t just myths, but perhaps they were very real beings and could be prayed to and applied to for help. I looked towards the majestic dome of St Paul’s Cathedral and thought, well, I have nothing to lose, if I ask for help, so I might as well. I closed my eyes and imagined the god Enki as depicted on a particular relief in the Museum and asked for his help. I told him, he was known as the creator and greatest helper of humanity, most gracious amongst the gods and most likely to take pity on any mortal that might need his help. I asked him to send any help he can and having read about the concept of guardian deities or spirits beforehand, even suggested he might send someone to assist me with my Kundalini issues in person. Immediately, I felt a huge download of energy. It was as if the skies had opened up (being London, it was grey and overcast) and some sort of beam or ray of energy descended from the sky, straight into my crown chakra and suffused my entire being. It felt like I was filled with light and had received a gift of divine grace. I immediately felt better and felt hopeful for the future. The next day, as I was washing up, a light appeared behind me, as bright and hot as a second sun and white in colour, accompanied by a sound of beautiful radiance. It had a female presence, immense intelligence, grace and emanated pure love. Within her energy field, time seems to have stopped or slowed down immensely, the outside world appeared like a mere shadow and looked unreal. Only she and I existed in that moment, everything else was a mere projection on a wall. Nothing has ever felt so real up to the point and so-called reality never felt so unreal. It was as if the colour, the flavour had gone out of it and it had gone pale and lifeless, so incredible was her shining and radiance, illuminating everything around her with the light of a thousand suns. Without words, this being of pure light energy floated towards me and communicated that she would like to heal me and touch me, in a way asking for permission, I suppose. She touched my back, at the level of the heart chakra and this touch felt real, like that of a human woman. She gave me shaktipat, which is what I later discovered, this transmission of energy is called, unblocked my heart and caused the energy to shoot up and flood all the nadis as it passed through the heart. I felt the need to lie down and allow Kundalini to do its thing, so I went to my room and that’s what I did. I started thrashing around and having various kriyas as the energy shot up, taking only a few minutes each to clear each of the upper chakras. When it got to ajna chakra and then past it, I felt a rhythmic thud at the top of my skull, towards the back part, as if the energy was trying to escape and break through, but couldn’t. This final knot, in the Brahmarendra, just below the crown is the last one and again I was getting the constrained feeling like I did when the energy was stuck below the heart. However, Inanna was still there, in the kitchen and as I was having this experience, she gracefully floated into my room, emanating this white-silvery light everywhere and giving the impression that she had tendrils of light extending from her in all directions, with which she was able to caress and touch me. She then floated on top of me, as I was lying in bed and started enveloping me in her light and I even felt like someone sat on me, with not much, but still noticeable weight, which to be honest, felt rather sexual, as is often the case when kundalini is involved. I have since seen many depictions of tantric goddesses sitting atop devotees in an act of tantric union in Buddhist art, especially in Tibet, so I’m guessing this is pretty universal. Not for nothing is Inanna known as the Goddess of (sexual) Love. In this tantric union, which really felt like an act of divine lovemaking, our beings slowly merged and became one. She gave me her energy and I felt my Kundalini finally shooting up with such force that it broke through the last knot and it felt like, my actual skull, with an audible crack, which sounded like a bone breaking. I have only recently discovered, that this moment is known as the breaking of the cosmic egg (Hiranyagarbha), which is accompanied by the release of the yolk, known as Amrita, which floods the body. The way I experienced it, was that after the breaking of the cosmic egg, the serpent finally escaped and as it exited the skull, it felt like it was peeking out from just above me, eventually coming to rest its neck, just below the head, and keeping its head raised up, the way it is often depicted in Egyptian art. Concurrently to this, amrita started flooding my brain and this felt like a rush of liquid light with again an audible sound of rushing water, like a stream, or even a waterfall. As the Amrita flooded me I experienced incredible feelings of bliss and joy, as well as downloads of profound truths, which is known as sat-chit-ananda (truth-joy-bliss) in the vedic literature. I received great realisations moment after moment and my whole being was being suffused with light, brighter than anything I have ever seen. Each subsequent stage of this awakening was more joyful and blissful than the previous one, even though I always thought, surely, it cannot get better and more intense than this, but until the final stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi, it always did. At this stage I was already in some state of Samadhi, though still within my body, with the opening at the top back part of my head, known as the Mouth of Heaven in the literature, giving me constant access to a higher, infinite and non-dual realm, which I can only refer to as Heaven, as we really have no other or better word for it. However, my experience had not yet culminated at this point and I was to experience the greatest bliss of all, as my consciousness exited the body. My body fell away and became increasingly small as I extended into a black, spaceless, timeless and dimensionless void. I was all alone, it felt, but I was also everything. I started experiencing everything being part of me, the whole cosmos and everything within it and my expansion seemed never ending. I filled everything, suffused and pervaded everything with my being. I was in my own universe, not knowing if I was the only one with his own expanded universe, or whether there were others parallel to me, but ultimately, it did not seem to matter, because in this place, I was whole, loved and loving, both the object and the subject. It seems like a paradox in hindsight, because how can you be loved or love, when you are alone, but in fact I was pure love, nothing else really existed, everything was made of pure light, the ecstasy, the knowledge, the happiness, the love, the joy, the bliss, all of it was way more than any human being could possibly bear, so I had to be in this universal form, encompassing everything there is, to bear the majesty and brilliance of it. This was a state of non-duality, where all opposites, even subject and object ceased to exist and there was only the One, the Absolute, the Self. The Self was universal, omniscient and all-loving. In this state, everything was already understood and known, past and present were no longer mysteries, they were all occurring simultaneously, everywhere and there was no limitation of any kind, just pure expansiveness. I must have been in this state for about an hour, though during that time, I had no concept of time at all, it simply did not exist. The same thing for space, everything was within me and I was within everything, with no separation. Ditto for dimensions, they extended infinitely in all directions and I was part of each dimension of existence. My vision wasn’t confined like it is now, it was also in all directions and saw everything there ever was or will be, everywhere, simultaneously. All knowledge simply “was”, already there, instantly available and there was nothing that wasn’t known to me. In hindsight, I understand why ancient Rishis described this moment of realisation as “I am that”, because really, that is all there is. In that moment, you are that and that is the only thing that exists, so you realise the unity and oneness of everything and everyone, different manifestations of the same “One”, seemingly different in the illusory, dualistic world of Maya, but ultimately stemming from the same source. Once I have grown tired of existing in my infinite, universal state, I started shrinking again, until I was small enough to fit back into my body (it felt like falling back into it) through the same route I exited it. Being back in my body, I felt incredibly constrained and my muscles were sore. I knew this was a profound experience I’ve just had, but it also felt rather disappointing to be back in my same old body and to have lost that full immersion into truth, bliss and joy, though I have carried back the memory of it. Since my crown was now opened up, the mouth of heaven provided a constant link to Heaven and I was able to interact with heavenly beings, beings of light from then on, depending on the needs of those that exist in this shadow world of illusions. The state I have just come back from is known as Nirvikalpa Samadhi. I have been able to go into Samadhi states and rest in them subsequently as well, though none were ever this intense, this seems to be a one-time deal, to show the Jiva or Soul what awaits it once its task has been completed here on earth, as a motivation to keep up the work and lead others towards union with the divine (Brahman). So, there you have it, that is my own unique take on Shakti being a goddess, one of many names and forms, which are largely made up by humans, but the intelligence, the force, the power behind it is unchanging and always the same. In fact that reminds me, the Goddess once showed me a vision of herself when I admitted to being confused about all the different forms and names that are associated with her and how she could be all of those things when to us, they may look so different. In this vision, I saw her as a Hindu Goddess in a four-armed form. Like I said, names and forms are for us, for her, they are all the same. She was alone, in a black, dimensionless void, like the one I have been to in my Nirvikalpa state, sitting cross-legged, two of her arms raised up in meditation and the other two manipulating reality. In front of her, was a loop, donut-shaped. As I looked into the loop, I realised it contained all the time and space of the universe, condensed, and as you “zoomed in” individual faces and lives started appearing though from her perspective, they were all flat or two-dimensional. She could reach into any one moment or any one life and make adjustments as she deemed necessary. She explained to me (in thought, not words), that this is how she reaches into manifest reality to keep the loop running as it should be and both time and space circle back into each other and start again, over and over, but to her all points in space, time and various dimensions are equally accessible and visible. She also explained to me, that when intervention is needed, she might incarnate in a certain form along a particular point of the timespace loop. All she need to do, is “pinch” that particular point in the loop-movie, for her, no time will have passed, but in the movie, in the physical play-out reality we inhabit, an entire avatar or incarnation may have been born, lived and died, completing the missions she was sent there for. I’m not going to speculate on how this relates to other gods and goddesses, I am simply reporting what I was told, or rather shown and you can make up your own mind about what that might mean. I have also “seen” her (specifically in the form of Inanna, but also as others, including Buddhist forms, as reported by friends who were visited) manifest in physical reality and “reach into” it, manipulating events, or performing healing on someone. The events were reported by friends or people who have asked me for assistance, remotely, but I also saw them in my minds eye, in the form of visions, so to me they were as real as if I was really there, even though I was thousands of miles away. If that sounds weird, keep in mind this is known as remote viewing and is reportedly how the Mahabharata was written, so that events could be seen by the author remotely. When the Ajna chakra is activated, these things become possible, though I have never sought them out, they only happen spontaneously, when the situation calls for it. In conclusion, I realise I have thrown a lot of weird, hard-to-digest stuff at you and it may not make much sense now, but perhaps in time, it will. I know it took me many, many years to get a sense of what’s really going on and understand at least the basics of it. I cringe at the thought of how many people will be upset by this story and I have plenty of experience with that, believe me. I’m not bothered by the criticism, which is predictable and I have noticed always comes from the point of view of which cherished part of the ego feels most threatened by it. Some will be upset by the mixing and matching of religions and philosophies, to some it will be new-age, to others way too religious, polytheists will decry its monotheism, monotheists its polytheism, non-duality its dualism, dualists its non-dualism and so forth. This story does not fit into any neat category and neither do I, I am literally in a minority of one, so it has the unique advantage of upsetting everyone at the same time. It may also seem unfair that such profound spiritual experiences would occur to someone so undeserving as myself (and that I very clearly am) and all I can say to that is that we live in a different age now (some would say, the tail end of the Kali Yuga) and as things get darker, one advantage of being here now is that we have to put in so much less effort to progress spiritually than only a few decades ago. A lot more people are waking up and having spiritual experiences of a profound nature, whilst simultaneously, those that refuse to grow and evolve with the changing times are growing ever more demonic and hateful, as has been predicted by the Puranas all those millennia ago. So for you, my advice would be this: keep doing whatever you’re doing and work on it, because there has never been another time in human history, when it was easier and quicker to achieve spiritual liberation than it is today. Don’t listen to mean-spirited critics (teachers and gurus who know what they are doing excepted), instead, follow your own heart and your own intuition, listen to the guidance of the Goddess and she will manipulate events in such a way as to give you maximum opportunity to develop and grow. Also, pray to her, talk to her, plead to her if you have to and she will find a way to communicate with you. Do not be bothered by the differences in outward appearance when it comes to her many forms, work with whatever form works best for you, whether it is the more impersonal and universal Shakti / Mahashakti, her more localised form as Kundalini Shakti or one of her more personalised forms appearing as various goddesses in different parts of the world all throughout history. If you feel more comfortable with the male aspect of God, then do that and apply to that aspect for help, that is also what I initially did, when I prayed for help almost a decade ago now. But, you’ll find, that in most religions, it is the female aspect of God, that is most active in this reality and is most likely to step in, whereas the male aspect tends to remain somewhat distant and is generally outside of the created world, rarely taking an interest in it or intervening directly. I hope that helped you and I encourage others to share their personal stories of awakening in a similar manner so we may all learn from them as a collective, because in the end we are one consciousness, having the same experience, but from myriad different points of view.
  15. The Goddess Kundalini Speaks I am Shakti, light of the Divine Into thy soul I shine my light I illuminate the darkness within What has been hidden, will be revealed. Into the void I enter with life Once dark, now it is filled with light All resplendent, shining and magnificent Life is created by my shining. In thy soul I shall rise up Thy body I shall cleanse Thy spirit I shall purify And liberation you shall surely attain. I shine my light onto you to illumninate your darkness To lift the veil of ignorance that clouds your mind To give you the knowledge and power needed To lift yourself up from the dirt and achieve liberation. In your heart I reside, the seat of your soul, Yet, I can be found in all things, Everywhere, where there is life, I am present And the whole universe is my playground. If you look within, you shall find me. I am that which moves you to do great things I am the power behind love I am the Goddess of All Creation Shakti flows in everything that moves Shakti transcends everything that loves Shakti motivates all that seek out the divine Kundalini is the hidden power of Shakti in all. I rise up in those that seek me out Not for power or glory, but for the love of all. I am motivated by your love for the less fortunate I am also the Goddess of compassion for all living things. I have many forms, yet whichever you seek out, You will find me, for there is only Shakti And though my forms are many and resplendent All are dear to me and lead you to the truth. Do not despair, if you don't find me at first. Keep searching and seeking, look in the right places, Which are all within you and by turning inward Shakti's divine light will shine upon you. All Joy in life is by my grace I am the love that the mother feels for her child I am the passion that creates life from the loins of lovers I am that, which holds the world together by my bonds of love. I created this world and yet, by the end of it We will reunite with my beloved And in his terrible dance, all this creation, This web of illusion, will be no more. Similarly, in your body, you are a microcosm of the universe. You were once created and you think you are real and separate. Yet, only I am real in you and I long to reunite with my beloved. When I crawl up your spine to reach him, I destroy all attachments. As I cleanse your body of what the past has left behind I annihilate the bonds of matter, I destroy the ties of ignorance I lift the veil of illusions, I reveal what was hidden, And when I reach my crowning achievement, we shall dance. Me any my beloved dance to the song of destruction The demons of illusion we slay, their dark world we vanguish, Our loverly embrace illuminates all that was once dark And only the pure light of the absolute remains. When you realise this, you shall be free.
  16. I'm also active on the Kundalini subreddit, though I've been a member here much longer than that. I generally advise against tantric or shamanic techniques, like Breath of Fire, they can really fuck you up if you do them without proper supervision and preparation. @Leo Gura gave you good advice there, Kriya Yoga is probably the best method out there to smooth out your awakening process and give you an easier ride. I would also second the advice from @GreenWoods , shaktipat can be of help in cases like yours, when the energy awakes spontaneously and is unbalanced. It also helped in my case, though I did not receive it from a human guru. If you can find a teacher you can visit in person, that would be the best. I would also recommend Bonnie Greenwell, although she is on a break right now, but Lawrence Edwards still does consultations and he is a trained psychologist and knows what he's doing in the Kundalini field.
  17. @Preety_India I know relatively little about that aspect of the Goddess. However, just yesterday I had a brief encounter with that aspect, as I was meditating and allowing my K to rise up the spine. At about the sacral chakra, the one responsible for sexual urges, she appeared and asked me some impertinent questions about who I would like to have sex with and such. It seems it was a test of sorts as when I answered truthfully, my then at that point strong sexual desire (this is natural when the power is active in the sacral chakra) dissipated and I saw her face smiling and dissipating into darkness, into a black void, which I realised was her. She emerges out of this black void, the primordial chaos out of which creation emerges from time to time, which is of the light, to merge back into the blackness of Kali Ma. Based on that, I'm guessing there was a teaching for me in that, about her true nature as a primordial chaos goddess who is beyond what we would think of as light and dark, creation, or even existence itself, she represents the true potentiality of chaos and she tests you by sexual sublimation, the ability to acknowledge and transform the true strength of your sexual desires. Hope that made some sense. Also, I haven't been following your story lately, but did you have to marry that man your parents wanted for you? I remember this was a discussion last year. Sorry for being nosey, just curious.
  18. Samadhi states, Jivanmukta and Non-duality This is an expansion and re-write of an earlier post I made on what it is like to experience Nirvikalpha Samadhi and to be in a non-dual state. The post generated a fair amount of debate and criticism, so I feel it is necessary to create a new thread that clarifies some of the issues that were brought up in one place. First, it is necessary to clarify what Samadhi is and I will do so both from my personal experience of it and by referencing traditional classifications by the likes of Patanjali. This is not a scholarly work, so no references will be provided, but they can easily be found if one is interested in further research. In traditional Yoga, there are three primary stages of Samadhi. I am using Deepak Chopra’s commentary on Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, due to its simple language and accessibility, cognizant of the fact, that he’s a new age author, but certain allowances must be made for the sake of brevity and clarity. I will add my own commentary in bold to clarify some points. “ The Yoga Sutras describe the way to regain Higher Consciousness. As you follow the Eight Limbs of Yoga, you can reach the freedom and enlightenment of Samadhi, the realization of your spiritual practices. In his illuminating text, The Yoga Sutras, the sage Patanjali introduces a systematic path to regain Higher Consciousness. This has since been called Raja Yoga or the Royal Path, a journey of techniques and lifestyle guidelines to awaken the mind to its true Self. Within the text, Patanjali provides a concentrated set of instructions known as the Eight Limbs of Yoga, culminating in a state of freedom, liberation, ecstasy, and enlightenment—Samadhi, the realization of all your spiritual practices. Meditative Absorption Patanjali explains that Samadhi is a state of meditative absorption, attained by the practice of Dharana (focused attention) and Dhyana (effortless meditation) when the True Essential Nature is known, without the distortion of the mind. It can be thought of as the culmination of your meditation process. Samadhi is the mind in its most concentrated state and can be compared to normal thought as a laser beam can be compared to normal light. The awareness of the meditator, process of meditation, and the object of your meditation have all merged into one. From knowledge, you have become knowingness. The mind in Samadhi possesses power that a normal mind does not, making it the main tool the Yogi uses to achieve the end goal of yoga—the joining of the individual self with the Universal Absolute. Be Deserving The Vedas say that everything in the Universe has awareness. Rocks, plants, animals, and humans all have awareness to a greater or lesser degree. The Vedas also state that only humans have the potential for self-awareness. Dogs, for example, don’t ask, “Who am I?” This means that every human being has the potential to become fully self-aware and reach the state of Samadhi. However, practice alone does not guarantee Samadhi. The Guru Gita says Moksha mulam, guroh kripa—the root of liberation is the Guru’s Grace. To reach Samadhi, you have to deserve it. Samadhi is beyond the normal mind and intellect, which makes describing it somewhat difficult; it can only be fully appreciated by direct experience. Samadhi has several levels of refinement through which you may ascend. “ Both authors here are referring to the act of Divine Grace which is usually expressed by Shakti “falling” on a person, much like snow or rain would fall on someone. It is bestowed by a higher power and intelligence, not always on the seemingly most deserving person. Someone might practice their whole lives and not receive it, whilst someone else with little practice or effort receives it seemingly out of the blue. Worthiness for Divine Grace still has to be proven, but she chooses capriciously as part of her “Lila” or play, sometimes just because the outrage others feel for not having been chosen instead amuses her. The character of Shakti (except in her wrathful form) is that of a small child, like a little girl in play and she tends to like those with a similarly childlike and playful character when bestowing the gift of Samadhi upon them. “Level 1: Savikalpa Samadhi This first level of Samadhi has within it four different stages. The beginning stages of Savikalpa Samadhi are where, during meditation, you transcend all mental activity. Patanjali says that, for a short period of time, you lose all human consciousness. In this state, the concepts of time and space are altogether different. For a minute, an hour, or more you are in another world. Now you see that practically everything happens spontaneously—you have nothing to do. Thoughts and ideas do not affect you. You remain undisturbed, and your inner being functions in a dynamic and confident manner. However, this is not yet a permanent state and everybody has to return to ordinary consciousness. As you begin to integrate this undisturbed state of silence along with the disturbed states of waking, dreaming and sleeping, Patanjali describes the four stages of Savikalpa Samadhi that are possible. “ This type of Samadhi is not necessarily preceded by a meditative state. When one dwells in Savikalpa Samadhi in a waking state, curious time dilation effects can be observed. For instance, when enjoying tasty food or listening to pleasing music, time within the personal bubble of the observer can slow down to such an extent that the outside world speeds up compared to it. The outside world also falls away, becomes fuzzy and unreal, like a projection on a screen. “ Stage 1. Sarvitarka Samadhi: Here the mind totally focuses on the gross aspect of a physical object. This is described as “examination” or learning the “inner secrets” of the object. In this stage, every aspect of the object is understood and you gain full knowledge of the physical object. Stage 2. Savichara Samadhi: Now the mind moves beyond the outer layers of the object and the subtle aspects of objects (tanmatras) are contemplated or “discerned.” The abstract qualities such as rednesses, beauty, love or the sound, texture, form, flavor, etc. of the object begin to be understood. Stage 3. Sa-ananda Samadhi: Here the mind is devoid of the objective world, you move beyond the intellect. There is no reasoning or reflection, just the tranquility of the settled mind. The sattvic (pure) mind is only aware of its own joy. The focus is on the inner powers of perception and within the mind itself. It’s known as a “blissful” Samadhi filled with joyful peace. Stage 4. Sa-Asmita Samadhi: Now even the bliss has gone and you are just here. Only the satvic (pure) ego, the I-ness remains, the I AM. Simple awareness of individuality—you are here and aware of nothing else. This is the ego-sense in its elemental form. No fear, no desire. This Samadhi can be likened to what is known in the Shankara Tradition as Cosmic Consciousness. The mind becomes fully Awake, it is a state of witnessing of the material world and you become aware of the Divinity (Bliss) within yourself. “ In the Kundalini tradition the stages described above are not necessary to enter a state of Samadhi. The object one concentrates on is one’s inner world and it is the rising of Shakti from one chakra to the next that induces the successive stages of this Samadhi state. Up to the heart chakra, one still dwells in the physical world, from the heart upwards until the crown, one enters pure mental states and once the Cosmic Egg or Hiranyagarbha is cracked in the space above the head, by the force of Kundalini Shakti rising, the various bodies (physical, mental, causal, etc...) are flooded with spiritual light and the light body is activated. It is at this point that the Jiva enters the second stage of Samadhi. “ In Savikalpa Samadhi, the samskaras (latent tendencies or past impressions which condition your life and desires) have not been dissolved. They still remain in seed form. The Great Indian Saint, Ramana Maharshi, described Savikalpa Samadhi as "holding on to reality with effort.” In this Samadhi, the concentrated mind can begin to access some of the “lesser” yogic powers (Siddhis). However, because the ego is still present, you must be careful how you choose to use these powers. If you use them with a pure motive, you can greatly serve humanity and will progress on your spiritual journey with humility. If you choose to use them for personal greed and ambition, you may cause harm and stall your spiritual progress. “ The background to why Siddhis manifest at this stage can also be understood in light of the path Kundalini takes. The broken cosmic egg releases yolk (amrita or soma), which provides illumination. There is also a permanent opening that is created by the force of Shakti breaking through the top back part of the skull just above the area known as Brahmarendra (the cavity of God), which is colloquially known as the Mouth of Heaven. This mouth drinks of the Soma, food of the gods, therefore activating the light body, in a similar manner to how devas (gods, angels, etc…) possess a shining body made of light (the meaning of Deva is Shining One). Drinking Soma can bestow certain powers of illumination, such as clear sight (clairvoyance), clear hearing (clairaudience), free-flowing spiritual wisdom and inspiration, but the main effect seems to be the ability to interact with beings of light (again, Devas) and to visit other realms that may be of a higher-dimensional nature compared to our own reality. This usually happens in lucid dreams and many visions can be had even in waking consciousness, depending on the sensitivity and receptivity of the person. “ Level 2: Nirvikalpa Samadhi Nirvikalpa Samadhi is a higher state of awareness where the ego and samskaras have been dissolved and only Consciousness remains. Patanjali says the material world has become like a shadow from which you are completely free. In Nirvikalpa Samadhi there is no mind as you know it—there is only infinite peace and bliss. Here nature's dance stops, and the knower and the known become one. Here you enjoy a supremely divine, all-pervading, self-amorous ecstasy. You become the object of enjoyment, the enjoyer, and the enjoyment itself. Now the heart is fully awake. In Nirvikalpa Samadhi, the first thing you feel is that your heart is larger than the universe itself. The universe appears as a tiny dot inside your vast heart. Here, there is infinite bliss and infinite power. You not only feel bliss, but actually become bliss. This Samadhi is similar to the Divine Consciousness described in the Shankara Tradition, a state of deep love for the world and everything in it, recognizing the Divinity in everything. It is entering a celestial realm. You experience Ritambhara Pragya, where your thoughts spontaneously manifest into reality. The past and future are blended into the eternal present. Everything is now. Everything is here. Time and space have been transcended. The exulted blissful state may last for a few hours or a few days. Initially there is no wish to return from this state and it is said that if one stays at this level for 21 days, there is every possibility that the soul will leave the body for good. However, through continued practice, you are able to come down from Nirvikalpa Samadhi and immediately function normally in the world. Both Savikalpa and Nirvikalpa Samadhis are considered temporary states in that you can only fully experience them by withdrawing from normal life. Even the Great Enlightened Yogis close their eyes to meditate. However, the Yogi’s “normal” life is not as most people experience it. A Yogi is living a life fully supported by the Unbounded Field of Infinite Possibilities. Imagine the whole of manifest creation is touching the front of your body and the unmanifest, Pure Awareness is touching your back. You lean forward and you are in the localized world but the non-local is fully there, supporting your every breath. To quote Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, “It’s living 200 percent of life.” “ Although perhaps somewhat exaggerated, that is a pretty good description of the Nirvikalpa Samadhi state. I provide a more detailed description of this state later on. The important takeaway here is that this is a temporary state, meant to give the seeker a glimpse into the absolute and to create an even stronger longing to return to one’s natural, unitive and non-dual state. The material world falls away, along with the physical body because duality ceases and infinity in its many forms takes its place. Infinite perception, wisdom, joy, love, bliss, etc… becomes the prime experience of the Self. One is omnipotent and omniscient, because the Self is the universe and pervades its every atom. “ Level 3: Dharmamegha Samadhi An even higher level of Samadhi is Dharmamegha or the “Cloud of Virtue” Samadhi. Patanjali says that this level arises when you have lost even the desire to know God or to be Enlightened. This Samadhi cannot be gained by effort, it reveals itself when all effort has dissolved. It is a Divine Gift, beyond notions of Absolute and relative. When even the temptations of the Yogic Powers cause no distraction, it is said that Pure Knowledge showers down like a Cloud of Virtue, bringing liberation and the Bliss of the Divine. This is Jivanmukta—liberation while still in a physical body. The afflictions of all karmas have been removed, the Yogi becomes ever free and shines in his or her own glory. It is said that in this state, the Yogi sees without eyes, tastes without tongue, hears without ears, smells without nose, and touches without skin. His/her mere intention can work miracles. The Yogi simply wills and everything comes into being. “ This is the classical description that can be applied to many famous Yogis, Rishis and Saints. They constantly dwell in a Samadhi state rather than being in it temporarily and the flow of wisdom from Heaven is unceasing. In various traditions such people are known as Jivanmukta, Tirtankhara, Boddhisattva or simply as saints. Such people are usually depicted with a halo around their head to indicate their permanent illumination. From the Kundalini tradition’s point of view, a Jivanmukta is someone in whom the Serpent’ head is permanently lodged in the crown, an unceasing flow of Soma / Amrita feeds their illumination providing them with wisdom and manifesting siddhis spontaneously, without effort. “ Sahaja Samadhi Some contemporary saints such as Ramana Maharshi have also talked about Sahaja Samadhi. This Samadhi could probably be placed between Nirvikalpa and Dharmamega Samadhis. It is where the inner silence is maintained along with normal daily activities. It is being able to maintain the experience of Nirvakalpa Samadhi at all times. Here you radiate Divine Illumination, the Divine is perfectly manifesting through you at every second. You are filled with Divine Grace. It can, perhaps, be likened to the Unity Consciousness of the Shankara Tradition. With Samadhi as your goal, you should be regular with your spiritual practices, enjoy the blessings that each day brings, and know that everything will be revealed at the right moment. “ Another famous contemporary Yogi who writes about this is Paramahamsa Yogananda. In his autobiography he mentions many instances of lucky happenstance where things fall into place as they should. Most of us experience something similar for short periods during our lives, when things just go our way and doors open up for us at every turn, things are seemingly arranged in a way that we have to make no effort to achieve goals, come across the right people, find the correct information. It is essentially an expression of being in harmony with the universe, or more precisely, in tune with Shakti, since she is the weaver of the space time illusory construct also known as Maya. When being attuned to Shakti, things just happen as they should, without effort and life is filled with synchronicities and happy accidents. In Sahaja Samadhi, this attunement to Shakti is constantly maintained and one’s mind becomes part of the shared universal mind. Once we’ve clarified the various stages of Samadhi, I’d like to move on to my personal account of how these stages manifested for me and what I can report on them from my own experience, which I find is always the most valuable form of testimony. My full Samadhi experience occurred in December of 2012, brought on by my own Kundalini awakening, in itself a gift of Divine Grace. A form of Shakti, in the form of a Goddess, bestowed the gift of a full Kundalini Awakening and with it the experience of Nirvikalpa Samadhi on me. There are multiple ways to reach this state of being, Kundalini Awakening is one of them. If the serpent known as Kundalini Shakti pierces through the Crown Chakra (Sahasrara) with sufficient force, the veil of Maya is pierced, the egg of Brahma (also known as the Cosmic Egg or Hiranyagarbha) is broken (this happens with an audible cracking sound), the "yolk" (Soma or Amrita) is released, which then suffuses the body, as a result, the soul exits the body through the Brahmarendra (the cavity of God) at the top back part of the head and an experience of non-duality can be had. This is usually referred to as union with Brahman, or Union with God, the ultimate goal of most Yogic, Tantric and non-dual systems. Then, as the soul and thus consciousness, exits the body, it finds itself in a spaceless, timeless, dimensionless void. The soul (Jiva) then realizes it is alone and it is indeed the whole universe. It then starts to expand, until it becomes universal, encompassing the whole cosmos and becoming the over-soul of the entirety of existence. It becomes boundless, omniscient and all-pervading. I cannot say, whether in this state, the Jiva-Atman is truly alone, or that it is alone in its own universe and there are many others parallel to it, where souls exist in a similar universal state, creating their own boundless universe, in essence. I tend towards the latter scenario, but I haven't seen anyone else mention it. In any case, in this non-dual state there is pure bliss and joy, freedom and a pure white light which suffuses the entire universe inhabited by the Jiva, which at that point is one with Brahman. The realisation of oneness with all becomes a certainty at this point. Whilst still in the body, flashes of realisation, about the ultimate truth of existence start entering the body, when the Mouth of Heaven, above the Brahmarendra (cavity of God) is opened by the serpent piercing through the veil of Maya. This enters the body as light energy, which contains information about the ultimate truth, in fact the liquid light entering the body in this state (enlightenment) is in itself the carrier of the information about Truth (Sat-Chit-Ananda), the bliss and joy felt is almost unbearable. Interestingly, science has now confirmed, that the fifth state of matter, hitherto unknown to science, is made of coherent photons in a liquid state, carrying information, for instance about the quantum state of particles. However, once the Jiva exits the body, the ecstasy, joy, bliss and knowledge received grows exponentially, along with the expansion of the boundaries of the soul, to encompass the whole universe, becoming truly boundless, with no beginning and no end. In this state, nothing is unknown, nothing is unseen by the Self or hidden from it. In non-dualistic infinity, only the Self exists, it is alone in the universe and it is all. There is no happiness, joy or bliss on earth that can compare to the ecstasy of existing in this universal state. Truly, everything one has ever experienced will pale in comparison. Just pure love and surety about the order and nature of things. Some Jivas never return and stay in this state forever, becoming merged with the Brahman (Mahasamadhi), whereas some choose to return from this state for various reasons, either because they have unfinished business on earth or they decide to spread the word to others. This experience of union with Brahman and becoming universal and boundless, temporarily, but then returning to the body, is known as Nirvikalpa Samadhi. The coming back is always the hard part and getting used to living in a limited, constrained physical body is even harder. It is like being shut into a prison of flesh and blood. Only a fraction of the Infinity of knowledge can be brought back into the limited human body, but even that is usually considerably more than was available to the Jiva before. Here I must write about the various forms of consciousness available to the Jiva in the Samadhi state. At lower levels of Samadhi, individuality is still the default state of the soul, in Nirvikalpa Samadhi the ego merges into the oversoul, also known as Paramatman and ultimately Brahman. If it wishes, the soul can then return to individual consciousness and it is thought this is the case when it feels compassion for those that have not yet experienced, or even know about this state of being, it will return to teach others and spread the word. In my experience, deities / devas and other perfected souls rest in the Paramatman and exist as a collective consciousness. Then, if a task requires it, or it is needed for play (Lila), the consciousness of such a higher being will temporarily separate from the collective and individuate in a form most pleasing to a devotee. When such a perfected being incarnates in the flesh, we call that an Avatar. The collective consciousness of Paramatman is best conceived as a continuum, with individual “Atmans” linked up with each other in a sea of consciousness. Similar ideas are often depicted in science fiction, such as the Q Continuum or the Great Link of the Star Trek franchise. Individual Selves can separate from the collective whenever they please, usually because they have a task to perform, linked to their own area of specialisation, so in that sense, their individuality is never truly lost, rather it is added to the collective to create greater whole and enrich it. It could be said that the whole point of Brahman individuating and manifesting reality in repeated cycles of creation and destruction, each lasting billions of years, is to experience individuality and the various flavours of the Self that are created this way, only for them to merge back into Brahman (to great collective rejoicing) at the end of each cycle, or if a soul reaches Mahasamadhi, even earlier. I would also like to address some of the points brought up by others in my earlier post. Some have pointed out, that a Soul that has experienced Nirvakalpa Samadhi would never use the first person singular pronoun (I have yet to master using the royal plural J ) that they would have no ego, because it has dissolved into Brahman and that in any case, only very rare cases of famous gurus would ever achieve that stage of Samadhi, that Kundalini Awakening is incredibly rare, that you would have to be an Avatar or a Jivanmukta to experience such states, etc… I hope this follow-up post clarifies why this is not the case. Kundalini experiences, of various forms and stages are increasingly common, Samadhi states can be had without any prior knowledge of Yoga or Meditation, as a result of Divine Grace and are commonly reported for instance in charismatic Christian congregations, where the Holy Spirit or Shekinah takes up the role of Shakti in being responsible for various mystical experiences. There is also the importance of the maturity of the soul, it is through many lifetimes that a soul becomes ready to experience Samadhi and in this sense I find Michael Newton’s classification of souls being in various states of maturity, from young and infant soul all the way to old and elder soul, most illuminating. Finally, I would like to share my personal experience regarding the highest form of Samadhi, Dharmamegha Samadhi or Jivanmukta and try to speculate regarding its nature and who would be most suitable to dwell in it. According to Gopi Krishna, a pioneer among modern writers on the topic of Kundalini, Jivanmukta is achieved by a Kundalini awakened person if they manage to keep the Serpent lodged in the crown for three days and nights, after which it will not descend again and a permanent enlightenment is achieved. The Jivanmukta’s whole being is suffused with light and they see everything around them reflecting back their own inner light, covered in a bright, white sheen. Such people dwell in Brahman whilst walking in a human body, spontaneously manifest various kriyas, without effort and are in fact constant reminders of the divine absolute to all those who have yet to awaken to self. A few years ago, during the summer solstice, when I was particularly close to the form of the Goddess who originally gave Shaktipat to me, I experienced a continuous Kundalini activation and a Samadhi state whilst being in my body and going about my daily life (I was between jobs and did not have to show up for work, which was not only fortuitous, but probably so arranged for this very purpose, to aid my spiritual development). I was in constant communication with the Goddess and the various gods that dwell in Brahman collectively. My crown shined like a sun, and next to me, was another sun, a constant presence of the goddess as through our consciousnesses merging, I could experience the collective consciousness of Heaven and hear the beautiful, chorus-like voice of this collective harmony of individuals as one. Many profound messages were passed to me during this time and I really felt like I was part of the collective mind of God. This, I realise is very esoteric and very hard to appreciate unless you have experienced it yourself, but it is accompanied by the most profound sense of Joy, Bliss and Being Loved, a lowly human can ever experience. This may enrage some, but the gods are so much greater than us, they simply dwell at a much higher stage of spiritual development than we do, though we know from the scriptures that humans have the potential to reach the same lofty heights and in fact even go beyond that, by completely merging back into the Brahman, or the Buddhists have their own ideas about how human souls can surpass the gods, whom they often see as still part of the illusion of Maya. Whatever the case, it is but a minor detail, the important part is the human soul’s potential to reach perfection, self-realization and Union, whether that is done with the assistance and belief in deities, or agnostically, with a pure focus on the Self. So, have I achieved Jivanmukta? No. Ultimately, I fell short. If I recall, during this period of three days and two nights (rather than the requisite three days and three nights) I barely slept at all and was constantly absorbed in a state of Samadhi with the brightness, which persisted with my eyes closed, making it impossible to fall asleep for any length of time. During that time a I developed an insuppressible inner compulsion to help others and pass on messages of good news from heavenly realms. I also sought out people (mostly online) that seemed in need of help and could not stop myself from offering healing and assistance to all and sundry, which ultimately got me into trouble. Nevertheless, it gave me a glimpse into the selflessness and incredible compulsion to help others, that drive higher beings, whether they be devas, other heavenly beings or Jivanmuktas in the flesh, here on earth. When in a state of being absorbed in Samadhi, compassion and love are the only possible emotions and one is by definition, selfless. One simply cannot help oneself and will be driven to constantly strive to help others and better the world. If siddhis manifest, it is because the Jiva (individual soul) in this case is part of a greater whole and can command the knowledge, wisdom and compassionate motive power of the whole. One Jiva is nothing. Jivanmukta is everything. Some may wonder, whether I will achieve Jivanmukta in this life. I don’t know, but it’s not up to me. These things are decided well before we are born. Either it will happen, or it won’t ultimately it makes no difference to me, I will still be the same “Self” whether as part of the greater Overself collective consciousness, or acting individually, it will be in service of humanity and the greater collective agenda of divine beings. I realise that a lot of what I wrote may seem incredible and will trigger many to lash out in disbelief and indignation, as has happened in the comment section of the previous post. Believe me, I know. I used to be a hard-nosed sceptic myself and pretty much a materialist atheist, before the very briefly described experiences started happening to me. It took me a long time, many years, to accept their reality and put them in the proper context. I should also point out, that I am not a Hindu, Indian, or follower of any tradition or school. My experiences came about because they were meant to happen, they were pre-ordained well before I was born and every event in my life lead up to them. I simply use the language of eastern traditions to make sense of my own experiences, due to the lack of other traditions having the sufficient linguistic tools to describe them. There is also a lot I had to leave out as this post is long enough as it is. If you have been, thanks for reading.
  19. I had a non-dual experience in 2012, as a result of a Kundalini Awakening, which itself was helped along by Tantric Union with a goddess. That part is probably less important to this community, I wanted to write about the experience of non-duality itself. There are many ways to reach this state of being, Kundalini Awakening is one of them. If the serpent pierces through the Crown Chakra with sufficient force, the veil of Maya is pierced, the egg of Brahma is broken (this happens with an audible cracking sound), the "yolk" (Soma or Amrita) is released, which then suffuses the body, as a result, the soul exits the body through the Brahmarendra at the top back part of the head and an experience of non-duality can be had. 20. @ZzzleepingBear I don't want to repeat myself over and over again, so I glossed over that part. It is a very long story. But if you check my youtube channel and the interview I did on the JeffMara podcast, I talk about it extensively.
  21. A common problem those involved with Kundalini, chakras, energy work or just plain spirituality of any kind might face in their day-to-day lives is how to explain all of this to the great mass of ignoramuses of this world, who may show a sceptical, belittling or dismissive attitude to something that to most of us here, is as real as the blood coursing through our veins and the air filling our lungs with each breath. I use the word ignoramus decidedly as it best describes an attitude where one essentially ignores the signals and perception inputs of their own body, to the extent that they are completely unaware of the very processes that underlie every second of their existence in this reality. You really have to ignore an awful lot to take a strictly materialistic view of the human body, but due to the comprehensive programming and brainwashing we receive from birth, this ignorant point of view remains the norm. So, should you meet a slightly open-minded person, who is ready to entertain that they may not know everything there is to know and empirical science, as a philosophical method of inquiry (being a tiny sub-branch within the vast edifice of philosophy) has its limitations, this is how you may go about explaining the ineffable and intangible reality of chakras, nadis, prana, kundalini, spirit and much else beyond to them. The easiest method, I find, is to make them aware of their emotional body first. This is already an energetic construct (with an undefined form of energy and matter, which we can probably just label “dark” as scientists do, because it is not visible to the naked eye or scientific instruments), centred around the chakras and the nadis. If they were to say that chakras don’t exist as is the current scientific consensus, one might point them to the existence of love as an intangible force and its central organ in the body, the energetic heart (sternum), which according to them, isn’t a real organ and doesn’t exist. Yet, we experience our “hearts” as the energetic, emotional and spiritual centre of our very being. Think back to the first time you were in love. Note the sensations you feel in your body as you remember this feeling. What is this feeling you feel, what is this organ in the sternum, where it is felt and what are those “heart strings” or gunas, invisible ties of energy that link you to the object of your affection? When I was 18, a freshman in college and in love for the first time, I could not only “feel” the strings connecting us, but I could “see” them with my mind’s eye, or perceive it, if that is what you prefer and the energetic image or imprint of our love is still seared into my memory. What I saw back then, where three colourful strings of energy (Sattva, Rajas and Tamas Gunas) emanating from my heart, through the sternum all the way to the person I loved. In this state of “being in love” we were in tune and I felt every little energetic and emotional vibration of the other as if we were linked across space and time, which, we were. You’re probably also familiar with the sensation of being in tune with the person you love, to the extent that you know what they’re thinking before they say a word or if you are apart, they will know when you’re thinking about them, or you will anticipate a phone call or text from them, before it happens. Oxford biologist Rupert Sheldrake theorised that a phenomenon similar to quantum entanglement was responsible for this phenomenon, which we can all observe in our daily lives, especially around loved ones and pets. Yet again, it is unacknowledged by science and the sceptical mainstream, despite pretty much everyone having personal proof of it. In fact, staying with Rupert Sheldrake’s research, who is an erstwhile colleague and now arch-nemesis of the famous materialist Richard Dawkins, it has been shown through various statistical research methods, that the “sense of being stared at”, premonition, telepathy and many other supposedly psychic phenomena are in fact everyday occurrences not just in humans, but animals too and must be fundamental to how nature and the universe operates. Yes, science hasn’t yet caught up to the reality of our everyday lived experience in this regard, but we can be sure, that once sufficient attention (and thus funding and recognition) is paid to this currently neglected and ridiculed field of research, large strides will be made in a very short time. So, in summary, there are many spiritual and subtle-physical phenomena that we can’t currently explain using the very limited and rudimentary tools of empirical science, but that does not mean that we should ignore them and efforts should be made to trust our own perceptions of such phenomena and not to take the claims of scientists, most of whom have zero knowledge of the spiritual realm, as some sort of gospel. Yes, science is an important tool in understanding physical reality, but what it isn’t, is a philosophical and moral framework by which we can live our lives and understand the full spectrum of our existence, including that of consciousness or the spirit.
  22. - How does the Buddhist monk order a sandwich? - ??? - Make me one with everything!
  23. This short video from Sadhguru on Kundalini Yoga really resonated with me. As he says, Kundalini Yoga is the most dangerous form of Yoga and should never be attempted in a social situation, it is strictly for ascetics and renunciates. I was having pretty traumatic flashbacks as to how my life fell completely apart when she rose from the Ajna chakra to the Sahasrara and how this is such a leap of faith into the abyss, which will completely deconstruct your entire being and make you into a different person overnight. If only I had this sort of information available to me 10 years ago, I could have saved myself a lot of trouble.
