so what percentage do they both add up to? -
Some people use the word "Source" in the way others use "God" I have heard it in the black spiritual community (African American etc ) but I don't know if it's more particular to that community because heard others use it too but I've only noticed t in recent years It has a much less religious connotation than "God". I find the word "God" used in a pantheistic way I find it ironically seeming similar to atheism and likewise Spinoza was frequently called an "atheist" by contemporaries, It's like if everything in the word was blue, there would be no concept of blue nor color so that the word "God" becomes a synonym for "everything" but just with a reverent tone to it Anyway where did you first hear this spiritual term "source" used with similar usage to the word "God" ?

If instead of just talking about everything you talk about the source of it that means the source of everything is not everything and God is not everything. That is not a problem if God is the source of everything but it doesn't add up if you also think God is everything (which you may or may not think) If that is the case the word "source" would have no meaning in this context -

What's wild about it if you are not in combat? Also over your near 20 in the Navy how much indoctrination do you get as to "enemies" . How much does that get talked about on an official basis? A lot or a little? Also how did your spirituality emerge? Was it in reaction to being in the military or did it have nothing to do with it? Did it come about literally while working in the Navy? Was it speaked by the internet or on leave or some special experience? What were the circumstances.? It's interesting your circumstances seem to be pretty unusual. -

Research take the time to research the substance that you're putting into your body. Research your substance and what to expect over the experience so many people fail here they don't do adequate research 2. Don't take Psychedelics with SSRI antidepressant medications if you are on any antidepressant medications such as SSRI medication you should stay away from psychedelics in general the combo of SSRIs and MDMA can be deadly it can cause serotonin syndrome this doesn't often happen but it can happen in the name of safety if you were on SSRI medication avoid psychedelics a lot of time what happens is because the SSRIs are hitting the same serotonin transporters in your brain you now have this natural crazy tolerance to anything that hits those receptors meaning point of MDMA will probably do absolutely nothing to you won't even feel it a tab of acid will just be like oh I feel a bit of energy but that's it people recommend if you do intend to take psychedelics and you're on SSRIs to be off them for at least two weeks but again I'm going to lean towards safety and I'm going to say make sure off them for at least a month before trying anything 3. Start with a small dose when planning for your first experience you need to expect the unexpected you even with the small dose sometimes you can be very sensitive to a substance which is why you start with the small dose especially because you've never tried a psychedelic before this is so unexpected this is untested waters for you 4. Trip Sitter you 100% need a trip sitter I have created a video called how to trip's it if you need to teach your trip sitter on you know the ins and outs the do's and don'ts of a trip sitting. I would suggest for a beginner is which one is going to be the safest for you on a physical level usually it comes down to a fight between do you try shrooms first or do you try LSD first a lot of people recommend trying shrooms first just because it's easier to know that the shrooms are real versus with LSD there are several chemicals (Ii've made a video about it) that can fit on one little tab of LSD meaning your LSD may not actually be LSD so if you do decide to start with LSD first you 100% have to buy the Ehrlich reagent testing kit (watch video for further descriptions on comparison between Mushrooms , LSD and DMT descriptions Note regular DMT is quite different from 5-MeO-DMT. 5-MeO-DMT not discussed in this video) 4. Set and Setting set meaning who you are as a person where you are in your life it even means what you ate that day your neuro chemistry that day certain days you might be different that is your set your setting is where you are your environment yeah are you in your house are you outside that's your setting if you're going for your first experience and you want it to be the most positive well the most potential for positivity possible you're set and setting have to be optimal meaning design your set and setting so that you are very calm very relaxed get some incense going, get some candles yeah whatever chills you out plan a music playlist _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ DURATION COMPARISON DMT trip lasts 10-20 minutes MUSHROOM trip lasts around 4-6 hours LSD ACID trip lasts 6 to 15 hours

Ironically In some cases meditation could be used as procrastination. Or any good thing could in excess turn into a bad thing. I would think it would be a good idea on noticing this weakness to then to add a countermeasure as a part of one's practice. You said Shinzen's style is precise but his mindfulness has cracks in procrastination (which is a behavioral problem) which is a deep unconscious habit force. But assuming he has been "cured" of his procrastination he may have fixed the cracks or even their root since then -
Nak Khid replied to Nak Khid's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
The big advantage with DMT is that the trip lasts 10-20 minutes compared to mushrooms and acid starting around 4-6 (but acid can go much longer). If you have a bad trip there is a lot less time to endure then you are talking about Ayahuasca which can last 2 up to 15 hours, Leo advises against it as first trip. It is a mix of two different plants, can cause increased blood pressure. nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and the dosages are much harder to confirm, -

@VeganAwake Personal questions if you don't mind. - The Navy accommodates vegans? How is the food? - While being in the Navy does your spirituality every come up in your service time or only when you are talking to people casually ? - Is it basically true that people who go into the army and marines now are interested in military action put could come home with PTSD but if you join the Navy or Airforce you get the same benefits with much less combat risks? -
Nak Khid replied to VeganAwake's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
you've done that in the kitchen with broccoli ? -
Nak Khid replied to VeganAwake's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
No "not broccoli" is not part of a duality if it were then non-duality would be part of a duality with duality as in "Non-duality vs. Duality and likewise "Broccoli vs. Not Broccoli" But neither statement means anything, just pretends to. You can't just put "non" in front of any word and say that is part of duality with the same word without "non" attached That is a word game not a true example of duality -
Nak Khid replied to VeganAwake's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
"non-duality" is not a thing. It's a negative term It's like the term "atheist" which describes Non-duality isn't oneness it's a negative term. It just means "not duality" It's like if you asked someone what their favorite vegetable was and they said "definitely not broccoli " -

Prior to Buddhism, there existed the traditions of Brahma-loka and meditation with the four virtues of loving-kindness, compassion, empathetic joy and equanimity. Maitrī means benevolence, loving-kindness, friendliness, amity, good will, and active interest in others. It is the first of the four sublime states (Brahmaviharas) and one of the ten pāramīs of the Theravāda school of Buddhism. The cultivation of benevolence (mettā bhāvanā) is a popular form of Buddhist meditation carried over from Hindu texts. In contrast to vipassana, in metta practice you are not focusing on the ultimate nature of phenomena. Furthermore, you are choosing a particular object of meditation, which is the metta phrase, such as “May I be happy.” You hold the phrase in your heart just the way you’d hold something fragile and precious in your hand. As you cherish each phrase, distractions inevitably arise. The practice gradually increases in difficulty with respect to the targets that receive the practitioner’s compassion or loving-kindness. At first the practitioner is focused on self love then loved ones, then neutral ones, difficult ones and finally all living beings, Choosing a particular object to stay focused on makes metta a concentration practice. When some other experience arises you don’t explore it, note it, or try to see its changing nature. People often have enormous insight doing metta. Since it is a concentration practice and you have a chosen object of meditation, you keep shepherding your attention back to that object. ________________________________________________________________ so according to this practice love of all beings or love of difficult people is higher than self love. Some argue that any of these forms of love don't deal with ultimate nature however some do -

Try this specific form of Buddhist meditation called Metta Meditation. It will include a different way of dealing with the person you are in contact with with the conflict -

I like his unpretentious style However I notice this recent scandal https://engagedharma.net/2019/08/19/culadasa-charged-with-sexual-misconduct/ 2019/08/19 Culadasa Charged with Sexual Misconduct John Yates, aka Culadasa, author of The Mind Illuminated, has been confronted with charges of sexual misconduct by the Board of Dharma Treasure. The incidents involve adultery with several women, for whom he also allegedly provided financial support. Dear Dharma Treasure Sangha, It was recently brought to the attention of Dharma Treasure Board members that John Yates (Upasaka Culadasa) has engaged in ongoing conduct unbecoming of a Spiritual Director and Dharma teacher. He has not followed the upasaka (layperson) precepts of sexual harmlessness, right speech, and taking what is not freely given. We thoroughly reviewed a substantial body of evidence, contemplated its significance, and sought confidential counsel from senior Western Dharma teachers, who urged transparency. We also sought legal advice and spoke with various non-profit consultants to draw on their expertise and objectivity in handling this matter. As a result of our process, the Board has voted to remove Mr. Yates from all positions with Dharma Treasure. In a series of Board meetings as well as written correspondences with Mr. Yates, he admitted to being involved in a pattern of sexual misconduct in the form of adultery. There is no evidence that this adultery involved improper interactions with students or any form of unwanted sexual advances. Rather, adultery with multiple women, some of whom are sex workers, took place over the past four years. The outcome was extended relationships with a group of about ten women. Relationships with some continue to the present day. He has provided significant financial support to some of these women, a portion of which was given without the prior knowledge or consent of his wife. Mr. Yates also said he engaged in false speech by responding to his wife’s questions with admissions, partial truths, and lies during these years. After we brought this misconduct to the attention of Mr. Yates, he agreed to write a letter to the Sangha disclosing his behavior, which would give students informed consent to decide for themselves whether to continue studying with him. However, after weeks of negotiations, we were unable to come to an agreement about the content and degree of transparency of his letter. At the end of this entire process, we are sadly forced to conclude that Mr. Yates should not be teaching Dharma at this time. Likewise, we are clear that keeping the upasaka (layperson) vows is an absolutely essential foundation for serving as the Spiritual Director of Dharma Treasure. With heavy hearts, the Board has voted to remove him from this role, from the Board, and from all other positions associated with Dharma Treasure. We also acknowledge the benefit of Mr. Yates’ scholarship, meditation instructions, and the personal guidance he has provided for so many earnest seekers, including ourselves. People from all over the world have been deeply impacted by the Dharma he has presented, and we do not wish to minimize the good he has done. We are forever grateful for the study and practice we have all undertaken together with Mr. Yates. We know people may feel disbelief and dismay upon learning about this pattern of behavior. However, it is our strong wish that we all use this time as an opportunity to practice patient inquiry, compassion, and discernment. Our goal in sharing this information with the Sangha is to provide each of you with enough information to make your own informed decision about whether or how to work with Mr. Yates as a teacher. We hope this transparency about Mr. Yates’ behavior can help us all move toward a place where we honor teachers for their gifts while acknowledging they are complex human beings who make mistakes. Report this ad You can imagine this has been a long, methodical, and distressing process. Moving forward, we feel it is in the best interest of the organization to form a new Board that brings fresh perspectives and energy. The current Board will resign after vetting and electing new qualified Board members to carry on the mission of Dharma Treasure. Finally, we hope this disclosure about Mr. Yates’ conduct does not shake your confidence in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. The transformative strength of refuge in the triple treasure can sustain us through this challenging time. Many other communities have walked this difficult path and emerged wiser and stronger. The ancient and modern history of Buddhism is filled with examples of the Dharma’s liberating individual and social power and compassion. Let us never forget that. https://getpocket.com/explore/item/which-personality-traits-are-most-predictive-of-well-being?utm_source=pocket-newtab The 5 Personal Paths to Well-Being Each of these 5 personality traits were independently related to a wide range of well-being measures. In other words, these are 5 different personal paths to well-being. If you score high in any of these 5 personality aspects, you are probabilistically more likely to have high well-being across multiple aspects of your life. 1. Enthusiasm People who score high in enthusiasm are friendly, sociable, emotionally expressive, and tend to have lots of fun in life. Enthusiasm independently predicted life satisfaction, positive emotions, less negative emotions, environmental mastery, personal growth, positive relations, self-acceptance, purpose in life, engagement, positive relationships, meaning, and achievement. 2. Low Withdrawal People who score high in withdrawal are easily discouraged and overwhelmed, and tend to ruminate and be highly self-conscious. As a result, they are susceptible to depression and anxiety. Lower levels of withdrawal predicted greater life satisfaction, positive emotions, and less negative emotions. Lower levels of withdrawal also predicted greater autonomy, environmental mastery, personal growth, positive relationships, self-acceptance, meaning and purpose, relationships, and achievement. 3. Industriousness People who are industrious are achievement-oriented, self-disciplined, efficient, purposeful, and competent. Industriousness is strongly correlated with "grit"- passion and perseverance for long-term goals. Industriousness was correlated with life satisfaction, positive emotions, less negative emotions, and more autonomy, environmental mastery, personal growth, positive relationships, self-acceptance, meaning and purpose, engagement, and achievement. 4. Compassion People who are compassionate feel and care about others' emotions and well-being. Compassion was correlated with more positive emotions, and more environmental mastery, personal growth, positive relationships, self-acceptance, meaning and purpose, engagement, and achievement. 5. Intellectual Curiosity People who score high in intellectual curiosity are open to new ideas, enjoy thinking deeply and complexly, and tend to reflect a lot on their experiences. Intellectual curiosity predicted autonomy, environmental mastery, personal growth, self-acceptance, purpose, and accomplishment. Interestingly, intellectual curiosity was not predictive of the more 'emotional' variables, such as life satisfaction, positive and negative emotions, positive relationships, and engagement with life. Two More Limited Predictors of Well-Being While the 5 traits above were the clear winners when it came to predicting a large swath of well-being, these two traits were still predictive of certain aspects of well-being. 1. Assertiveness People who score high in assertiveness are socially dominant, motivated to attain social status and leadership positions, and tend to be provocative. We found that assertiveness was positively related to autonomy in life (being independent and able to resist social pressures) but was also related to greater negative emotions. This makes sense considering that being autonomous often requires nonconformity and standing up for what you believe in, which can make us feel less happy in the moment. Interestingly, enthusiasm predicted LOWER levels of autonomy, as well as less negative emotions. As we note in the our paper, enthusiastic people may be less likely to go against social consensus if this makes social interactions less enjoyable, whereas assertive individuals may be comfortable with boldly voicing their opinions if this helps them to attain rewards such as status, even to the possible detriment of other forms of adjustment. 2. Creative Openness People who score high in creative openness need a creative outlet, and appreciate beauty, daydreaming, imagination, fantasy, and feelings. We found that both creative openness and intellectual curiosity had independent associations with personal growth and engagement. Therefore, while intellectual curiosity appears to be more widely predictive of well-being, creative openness is still a path to two key elements of well-being: personal growth and engagement. This is consistent with prior research on the link between living the creative life and certain forms of well-being.
