@Nick_98 So, you are feeling a lot of pressure right now... Well, how are you going about your spirituality? What's going on in life right now creating this pressure? -
@Leo Gura I have a stainless steel pan. Good reminder.
-
@Leo Gura Makes sense, thanks. I knew it was a coating and could chip. I use it for eggs at low heat. Basically, it’s free of one chemical which they use in marketing but may contain another. I know when it chips it’s done.

@Leo Gura huh, when I looked into them they are good enough. What’s the critique that you know that seems to be uncommon knowledge about ceramic? Heavy metals?

Then again, I do suspect a lot of self deception around health claims. I am sure there is a lot of bullshit out there. What is healing and sickness? And how does perception play a role? People like Dr. Gabor Mate, and things like Chinese medicine seem to agree mind body fitness, perception being as aspect of this plays a role. The real issue as well, with sickness is the nature of the immune system, for most things, and how you think, feel, perceive etc. They are highly connected and play a roll. Your mind and your body is a hologram. Each cell…

However, do I think Psychedelics, Qigong, journaling, exercise, eating well, investing in coaching, breathwork, meditation, reading, socializing, etc etc any of these things by themselves helped me cure depression, etc? No. It was investing strategically in many complimentary things, over a long period of time, with a focus on Holistic health, nutrition, energy management, purpose, happiness, mindbody health, loving kindness, forgiveness, mindfulness, feeling etc. I don’t think any one thing cures depression. I think thinking there is “one thing” that will cure depression in more cases is not false. Also, not everyone is depressed for the same reason. So, you can’t just invent a pill or technique as if “depression” is a thing. In reality depression is an expression or Symptom of a holistic issue. Qigong, for me was huge because it provided tools for me to manage stress, relax, etc. It really changed my life and I love teaching it. But, what is healing? It comes from body’s natural intelligence. The body wants to harmonize and be healthy. That is the Nature of Qi. This is known in Chinese medicine that for more diseases the body heals itself. I want to go more into this some time soon. But, the western model of health and the Chinese model of healing of very different, almost opposing views that are complimentary if used maturely. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses. I don’t think all western medicine is self deception, all Chinese medicine is self deception or all aryuvedic medicine is self deception. Each has strength, weaknesses, blind spots, limitations, wrongs, etc. But, I think each also holds answers and that a thorough investigation is important here. Qigong, for me is a pillar of my wel being. Breathwork, meditation, help too. But, so does direct experience, working through things. I still have work to do with certain stressors, triggers. Etc. But, I’ve come a long way and that’s because I am always learning from different schools of thought and working to create an integral, holistic framework and set of models and systems for living that lead to a good life. Qigong, breathwork and meditation right now are my biggest passions along with music.

When I know something is true, I for now on put my foot down. Doesn't matter if you are Leo or anyone else. You aren't going to tell me my direct experience, and studies are self deception. After awhile, after extreme skepticism about everything for a decade, I realize I have to put my foot down in areas where I know I am right. I still have lots of questions and doubts. Health, is a holistic endeavor. It's also complex, and individual. What heals one person may not heal another. This is because the cause of the imbalance which results in a symptom can be very different amongst people. There is a difference between saying a tool doesnt work and it's self deception, vs, seeing a tool as part of a larger complex of tools and techniques. Just like you don't only have a heart, and thats the one Organ that works... Anyway.

@Leo Gura They for sure played a role in my current well being. I think think of specific trips. A clear before and after. That, and combined with a lot of work in other areas.

It’s normal and fine to have weaknesses and make mistakes in life. What I have learned is important is that by consciously moving through those painful moments with self compassion, objectivity and curiosity you can grow through them. Mastery over mind, emotions, cognition, decision making, actions, is a complex topic. This is a decades long process of developing self mastery which life offers us to take. Don’t shy away from the pain when the light of awareness is shown on aspects of yourself that make you uncomfortable. Instead, lean in, be patient and curious. Connect to your values and adjust accordingly. This is the value of not identifying with anything ie, a nice person, clean person, a calm and respectful person, a knowledgeable person, etc. Because often we have faults in areas we consider ourselves strong in. Instead, make your values and intentions in these areas explicit to yourself. If we focus on seeing what is true as it arises and responding and working with reality consciously I think we can develop a greater, deeper and more mature relationship to ourselves and reality.

A side note, as I don’t believe these things can heal thyroid issues like we are discussing here. But, a general point. Placebo is a strong healing modality. Yes, the body naturally heals most things. But, placebo plays a role, and can aid healing. There is science and studies showing this. Being more relaxed, good energy circulation, and calm clear mind, positive intention… (meditation, reiki, prayer, dancing) can of course lead to healing and health. It’s a mindbody system that we are comprised of. Somatic practices like yoga, dance, etc are good for you. The body naturally heals, these modalities can aid in that natural healing process. By allowing the bodies system to harmonize and run more smoothly, your body may heal things. Many diseases may come from the body being out of balance, stress, etc. So, yes these things can play a role in healing many lifestyle created diseases by bringing more harmony into the system. This thyroid issues doesn’t sound like a lifestyle disease and likely requires more serious medical intervention. Knowing when to use what healing modality requires maturity and education. You can straw man these things, and of course point to fantasies in the healing space. But, there is of course healing and health benefits to meditation, dancing etc. But, these are complimentary, life style, preventative and maintenance type healing modalities. Calling them fantasies I think is false over generalization. Now, these general mind body cures don’t help with serious diseases like H. chatgpt: The conversation in the screenshot touches on two perspectives about self-healing, the body’s natural processes, and the attribution of healing to specific practices or beliefs. Here are some reflections: 1. The Role of Natural Healing: It’s true that the human body has remarkable self-healing capabilities, such as immune responses and cellular repair. Many conditions resolve on their own without specific interventions, which can lead to the perception that a particular practice or substance was responsible for the healing. 2. Placebo Effect and Belief: Belief in a healing method, whether it’s meditation, supplements, or other modalities, can activate the placebo effect. This doesn’t mean the method is ineffective; rather, the mind-body connection plays a significant role in outcomes, especially for conditions influenced by stress and perception. 3. Serious Disorders and Medical Intervention: While some conditions may improve through lifestyle changes or alternative methods, serious disorders often require rigorous medical intervention. Over-reliance on anecdotal evidence or unproven methods for severe illnesses can lead to harm. 4. Skepticism of “Healing Narratives”: The point about people attributing healing to specific practices without scientific analysis is valid. Many anecdotal claims are not rigorously tested, leading to misleading conclusions. However, dismissing all non-scientific approaches as “fantasies” may oversimplify the complex interplay between physiology, psychology, and belief systems. 5. Body’s Intent to Survive: The idea that the body inherently wants to survive aligns with evolutionary biology. However, autoimmunity and other conditions suggest that the body’s mechanisms can malfunction, challenging the view that the body “never attacks itself.” In conclusion, while the body’s natural healing ability is impressive, a balanced approach that combines medical science, psychological factors, and holistic practices can often be the most effective. Dismissing one perspective entirely may ignore valuable insights from another.

What I like about Chinese medicine is that it acknowledges that that body naturally heals itself. The techniques used in Chinese medicine are used to help guide and balance this natural self healing mechanism. Like, a gardener doesn’t grow the plants but by tending to the land, pruning weeds and watering them, etc… it helps the natural healing process of the body.

Brendan Burchard is great. Love his app Growth Day.

Great tune! Especially the intro.

This is a great window my Oura ring provides. I need to improve my day time stress management. The data shows this. Also, I can use this to test with data to show effectiveness of relaxation techniques. As you can see I used one recently.
