I never drank alcohol during my entire studies and made many friends. The main ways I made friends were: - Living with housemates / community members (for instance I lived in a green/hippy-ish student community) - Joining a choir, orchestra, jamsessions (you could replace this with any other hobby in an association) - Other hobbies such as: circus arts, nature excursions / looking for plants, mushrooms, etc, joining lectures, volunteering in vegetarian/vegan community kitchens, boardgame evenings, yoga - many people that I met here weren't that interested in drinking -Events like: authentic relating, non-violent communitcation, radical honesty, etc. also attract many people that are not interested in drinking. - Making friends during lectures - When I did go to parties, I just joined without smoking/drinking, I just drank water, and often had just as much fun (if not more, as I wasn't wasted the day after). But it was very easy to me, as I never liked alcohol. Many of the friends I made also didn't drink (a lot of) alcohol, I guess in slightly "hippy" circles, many people don't drink

What do you know that you want already? What are your dreams, what do you want to do right NOW? Start doing those things and you will come to ideas of jobs you would love. Note: I was doubting between music and my other passions as well for years. Right now I am completely sure about what I am doing. The only thing I did, was just following my intuition of things that I wanted right NOW, which ultimately led me to know to which job I wanted to work towards. Please, don't try to choose a study. Try to choose a path in life, a job, and see which studies can help you to get you there. This will help you to get the most out of your studies.

I didn't know how to delete my post. I decided not to share my story with other members of the forum anymore. Since there were no comments I assumed that there are enough diaries already and there is no particular value in sharing mine, so I will track my goals offline again

Hi Jackson, I did exactly what you want to do. I quit my studies in biology and decided to start my own company and earn my money with my passions, which were not related to my university studies. One of my dreams was to start a website too. I can also say that for sure, it is the biggest challenge I ever got: to get a following online and to create a successful website. Small steps, that I thought would take a week, take months. I think starting an online business is extremely overwhelming. One of my friends who started an online business is working 60 hours a week on her online business since 2 years and just made her first 120 dollars out of it. If you have the possibility, try to find some job at the side that can help you to support your basic costs of living and work there part time. I myself started a local business, which is way easier than an online business, and earn my living with this business. Starting this business was also a bigger challenge than I imagined, but now after about 4 months working (not full-time) I can support myself with it. Even though starting a business was more challenging than I thought, I can also definitely say that I didn't ever feel that I learned SO much, that I grew so much, and that my whole life feels purposeful in a way it never felt before.. So my very prejudiced vision is that it is one of the best things you can do for your own growth Some weeks I literally worked all the time. I never really feel like I have free time, since it is ALWAYS possible to do more. So my experience is that sometimes it can also be MUCh more stressful and less rewarding on the short term (?). So take that into account too So if you will take this step, I would say: 1. Know what you are starting on 2. Find an alternative great way to make income that is less long term. Otherwise you will literally die of stress. 3. Talk with me, I would love to get into contact with other young entrepreneurs Wish you all the best! Julia Eliza
