  1. I don't think anyone should choose how maps are redrawn. I support removing gerrymandering altogether. It should be algorithmically done to prevent any biases. It's actually not that difficult to resolve at all.
  2. That's incorrect, define what you mean by electorate? Just eligible voters, correct? Or voters by district? That's a term used broadly in politics and often times used incorrectly.
  3. Can you provide stats on this? I think getting people to vote is a whole separate issue, imo.
  4. I see you've vastly edited what you wrote previously, with much more elaboration than originally provided. So popular vote aside, strictly regarding direct voting via your district, to my point, if districts were reflective of fairly drawn maps and this has been show algorithmically via computer simulations in the 2012 case, Republicans wouldnt have had those 33 seats and wouldnt have had the majority of seats, period. Additionally, if you can draw maps of you electorate on a district basis, you there by have created a majority on a district basis, even though that wouldn't reflect the popular vote or electorate vote for the country as a whole. TA.. DA!
  5. @Devin I just explained very clearly where this was not the case, as a result of Gerrymandering. Most clear example was 2012, but there are more examples which preceeded and proceeded 2012. "In House races in 2012, 1.7 million more votes were cast for Democrats than for Republicans. And still, thanks to the way those votes were packed and cracked, Republicans came away with thirty-three more congressional seats."
  6. @Devin You're talking about presidential elections. I'm talking about specifically house of rep elections. Judgeship, first starts out at local state, etc. In many conservative leaning states, judges are appointed by governor or by state legislative committee. It is the latter where judgeships are vulnerable to gerrymandering/corruption. That was my point.
  7. @DevinThis is actually incorrect, and the contrary has been proven in the last 2 decades time and again. I could use multiple examples, but lets just take the example of 2012 elections. In House races in 2012, 1.7 million more votes were cast for Democrats than for Republicans. And still, thanks to the way those votes were packed and cracked, Republicans came away with thirty-three more congressional seats. I dont think you are fully understanding the implications of unchecked gerrymandering to our Democracy. This doesn't even touch on how this bleeds into state legislative committees appointing judgeships and the ramifications to our state and local courts, etc. or the fact that local and state legislature has more impact on our day to day lives than the federal. There are so many more ramifications I havent even touched on and yes, just by monopolizing the gerrymandering process a political minority could hypothetically control a political majority indefintiely, and no disrespect @Leo Gura, but to your comment about going out and "voting in the right way," Gerrymandering quite literally means your vote doesn't matter if you are living in a gerrymandered district that doesnt favor your politics. #expandthesupremecourtseats
  8. I don't disagree with you. But everything is relative and yes it could get worse. To your slavery nation remark, it took a civil war and millions dead for us to move past that era. I realize it's not helpful to be anxious about the future, but it is helpful to see the direction in which we are moving, imo.
  9. @Leo Gura Welp, here we go again with Climate Change. https://www.cnn.com/2022/06/30/politics/supreme-court-climate-change-epa-regulations/index.html Looks like all the progress made in the last 50 years is being rolled back. I will look to volunteer my time on climate change while I'm doing spiritual and consciousness work. Consider that my Karma Yoga. Gonna be hard not to be attached when it feels like the US is going down the toilet.
  10. Evolution is not linear, sometimes one step forward, results in 2 steps back and then three steps forward.
  11. @Leo Gura That's a fair answer. I think we still have to get to Green first.
  12. @Leo GuraI dont know of too many successful polticians that embody higher levels of spiral dynamics. It seems like individuals at higher levels of spiral dynamics don't fair too well in politics, at least at the higher levels of politics e.g. Bernie is a rare one and there's a reason he didnt take the primaries. We arent ready yet. Grassroots and local politics is viable, but senate and presidency, seems like a pipe dream.
  13. @Leo Gura A couple of things.. from your teachings, I gained that this is a small piece of the larger process of spiral dynamics and spiral dynamics is not necessarily a linear process. Eventually as a part of the evolutionary process, our society and policies will become more conscious, or we will cease to exist. That said, it may likely get worse before it gets better. We may not even see the US reach the next level of spiral dynamics in our lifetime, and the US as we know it may not even exist at the end of our lifetime. This is likely the first of a number legal and policy regressions, being pushed by a 5-4 right leaning supreme court. More right leaning than what we've seen in our lifetime. I have a couple pf questions. What does this mean for the average actualize.org follower? How can we push for change, while still remaining outcome independent and not neurotically attached to the change we want to see. Counter intuitively speaking, I'm sure some degree of acceptance is required? What would be top 3 to 5 areas an actualized.org follower can focus on to maximize possibility of change working within the system? What would be top 3 to 5 areas an actualized.org follower can focus on to maximize possibility of change working outside the system.l? As Im sure many are seeing the same thing, this is a powder keg waiting to explode. There is only so much we can be pushed, until we push back and historically speaking this has resulted in armed conflicts.
  14. @Leo Gura don't risk it. I'd hate to see you get in trouble, the info you provide is amazing.
  15. take 5meo-dmt and you will see the experiences that are spoken about in yoga are real. I've experienced many things Sadhguru talks about in my own experience. Also, Sadhguru can't really make a person understand through words, through his yoga (or any true kriya or kundalini practice) you can have many of these experiences. Take his inner engineering class (or any true kriya or kundalini practice) and be committed, I guarantee you will eventually experience a difference.
  16. @Yarco We've talked for 8 months. We've met in her home country and spent 9 days together. We have a very special and genuine connection. I met her family and we talk every day on video calls for an average an hour. @Preety_India @LobaI truly don't believe her to be a gold digger at all. If she was she'd be spending money on unneccessary crap. That's what makes this more difficult her and her family's needs are legit, but I also don't want to create a relationship of unhealthy co-dependency. After all they were surviving before I came into the picture. That's the tricky part and I forgot to mention, in her culture being a first born she's expected to help support her family even help raise her siblings (which she did they are all grown now.) So, it's likely if we were to get married, these emergencily payments would likely be made into monthly payments, that's what would be expected possibly forever. I didn't know this going into the relationship. I know the financial support would help them, but to Aurum's point, boundaries need to be established and a threshold of an amount will need to be set by me. It's difficult because her family likely thinks I'm rich (because I'm American), I'd hate to cause friction between her and her family, she's trying to play nicely between her family, while ensuring we can still build a life and not be bankrupt by her family, and I'm tallying up expenses I wasn't expecting to account for and thinking, "am I crazy for even entertaining this?", but she's someone I care for.
  17. I've fallen for this girl, which is not something I easily do, since I have a very happy independent life. She had some issues she was running into, she never asked but I offered to financially help. I was glad to help someone out. To be fair she legitimately lives in a developing nation, so it's easy to see how these things can come up, especially in times of covid, which have hit the developing world especially hard. I question how much I'm actually helping and worry that this can become a form of dependency that I've created. I really love this girl and may in the future want to move to something serious like marriage, but I never want to be a sole financial provider. I'd rather have a partner on this journey. She confirmed she's willing to be a partner not a dependent, but I worry she still may rely on me to consistently help financially during these emergencies that come up. Any thoughts on what I should do?
  18. This was a good interview. I know there are a lot of Navy Seals floating around the podcast syndicates, but I think Mark Divine is the first Navy Seal I've seen that is green/yellow. He has a very good understanding on yoga, spirituality, eastern philosophy and practices and intuition.
  19. @Mason Riggle Correct and the paradox in your ending is mentioned twice in the video, in one form or another.
  20. I just saw the latest Young Sheldon, it's a good episode, and good example of the limitations of hyper logical perspective.
  21. And that philosophy professor was just playing with kid gloves too, lol.
  22. @Forestluv my point exactly and the real issue right now and most imminent is ensuring security is up to par and can suppress another coup. No one is even talking about the biggest hack of rhe federal governement in modern history. we don't even know how bad that is because we are so distracted by this ish.
