amazing response by leo, i applaud your decision. Unfortunately, it seems that more and more people are getting taken in by the fake news network. Here is an article on how to spot fake news : http://www.npr.org/sections/alltechconsidered/2016/12/05/503581220/fake-or-real-how-to-self-check-the-news-and-get-the-facts?

how long is your university?

Start by watching other professors. Watch Erik Lander in MITx 7.00x as i've told you before. There is nothing wrong with valuing excitement over learning. In fact, they go togeather sometimes. Learning is exciting, you just don't know that yet. May be you can try looking at things differently, and watching professors excite you is a good way to do that (or reading exciting books about the subject). Learning isn't about reading books, it is a process of discovery. It is ingrained into reality, because that's all learning is. Here, watch this : (found it when i was watching a seminar on host microbe interaction, this is how you want to learn. Learning everything about the subject, from the people involved, to the effect it can have on your life)

Just don't get into depression later on as you might have some kind of "realization" of what you've done. Don't worry about it, just keep doing what you enjoy.

ego = the part of the mind that mediates between the conscious and the unconscious and is responsible for reality testing and a sense of personal identity. illusion = an instance of a wrong or misinterpreted perception of a sensory experience. do you understand now? its not rocket science. -

Yes it would be helpful. In fact, that is what i would like to do. As i become a scientist, i want to continue to become more aware of this new perspective. If you want to become a physicist or a neuroscientist, then we should collaborate. I am sure that if we both share our findings, and discuss this issue further, we can gain more. -
sit in a quiet place. Think back on those times you felt bad emotions. How do you feel? Why do you feel? Answer honestly, with an open mind. Don't suppress it, don't change it. Just tell yourself "I accept these emotions because they are part of me". Do it until you feel peaceful. An example of suppressing your feeling would be - constantly checking these forums for a new reply because your mind is attention deficit

start by education. Where are you on that?

so you want to pursue psychology but you don't think you will get a job?

I respectfully disagree with this sentiment. We find clues only when we are ready. The ideal teacher will show itself only when the time is right. Ideas of buddhist philosophy has been around for century, but the world is what it is, or worse. It is simply how the human mind works. We are cognitive misers, we will take the path of least resistance. Posting on social media to get likes/approval is far easier than trying to understand WHY you want to post on social media and realizing your emptiness.

why is it that every time i hear someone struggling, it reminds me of my own struggle? I can relate so well to this, it is what i am facing as well. One step at a time i guess, and enjoy the journey while i'm at it. Even if its painful, it will pass, as will all my experiences. -
I am asking because descriptions of descriptions are also descriptions. I.e, if we choose to describe the experience, or modify a description of the experience(like, "reality isn't X, its actually Y") it immediately becomes a description. Even if you meditate, and choose your perception carefully, you still have to describe it. So how do you describe what cannot be described? or do you feel no need to describe it at all.

no. Mankind will end in a whimper, not a bang. The failure is happening right now. This is pure speculation, but i do not think there will be a new opportunity. The problem with people is a psychological epidemic, a kind of mental disease. It is species wide and self propagating. Culture is self propagating. What gave rise to Trump? What gave rise to the sensational media? What gave rise to false dogma? These things were always there, since humans were born on this planet. These things helped us survive. And now they will help our demise. Just like how the dinosaurs were unable to adapt, despite them having colonized and diversified to much of the land. Their adaptation was insufficient. Our adaptation is also insufficient in dealing with our current problems. Do not think you are above the problem since you posted this. You are also a symptom, even if you can't see its invisible tendrils. And so am i.

its best not to take this forum(or anything in life) too seriously. Question: What is the "third eye"? -
Asking for the meaning of life comes from a perspective in which you are simply unable to see yourself in the grand scheme of things. You are one with the universe. You are origin for existence itself! Mere words that human minds makeup to justify this cannot do it justice. It is a clumsy attempt to hide our feet. Do you ask yourself what is the meaning of the life of an ant? What is the meaning of these rocks? What is the meaning of your neighbor's life? No, the question is always related to YOUR life. Because you experience it that way. And that is the great illusion. Self awareness is our gift, and our curse.

I see. My drive was just to understand myself and answer some simple questions. I felt happy when i embraced the fundamental contradiction, because my question was answered through my experience. Now everything i do is just a superficial add on, which makes it even more fun, and gives me more motivation to do things. I am already happy, so i am free to pursue anything now. But that might not be the case for everyone i suppose.

I remember feeling the same way when i joined graduate school for the first time. But it was on much different circumstances, so i am not qualified to comment on your situation. However, what i did was - i quit graduate school. I had other plans for myself. Whether its good or bad, i am still in the process of executing those plans. Lets see where life takes me.

Hello, I feel very aware right now after meditating for some time. Every action i take - from walking around the house, standing in the sun, watching the feather follow the air is inconsequentially meaningless in the sense that i am simply not there I am nowhere and yet everywhere I can feel the past overlap the present overlap the future in every keystroke on the keyboard, every tick of the clock I feel stupid for once believing that meditation will change my life. Yet it was a necessary deception to experience this moment. Where are "YOU"?
