In The Religion of Tomorrow Ken Wilbur does an excellent job of comparing traditions of raising self consciousness. Buddhist traditions are the obvious choice for comparisons and Wilber uses exactly that approach. I would be very interested I hearing Leo cover a comparison of traditional approaches, particularly the Fourth Way as taught by Gurdjieff, who made one of the first efforts I am aware of to being a “workable” approach to both living and striving to attain enlightenment (although Gurdjieff did not use that term) to the West. Gurdjieff made reference to Eastern traditions but seemed to recognize the need for Westerners to incorporate Eastern methods for raising consciousness while living a “normal” life.
