Any attempt to change what's occurring is just more 'what's occurring'. Woulds, Coulds (and Shoulds) are always actually, 'would ifs' and 'could ifs' (and 'should ifs')... This 'would' happen IF conditions are such that it happens. This 'could' happen IF conditions are such that they do happen. Conditions at any moment are whatever they are, and never other than what they are. -

@Dodo if the Justice System was no longer based in the idea that individuals are personally responsible for their actions, it would switch from a more 'retributive' system to a more pragmatic system, where it removes people from society to protect society, acts as a deterrent, and focuses more on rehabilitation, than punishment. -

@Dodo what happens happens.. is happening.. and continues to happen.. exactly if, when, and how it WILL.. -

@WelcometoReality yes, recognizing that there is no freedom, is counterintuitively... absolutely liberating! -
from wikipedia - Promiscuity in adults[edit] Sexual promiscuity in adults, as with adolescents, presents substantial risks to physical, mental, and socioeconomic health. Having multiple sexual partners is linked with risks such as maternal deaths and complications, cancers, sexually transmitted infections, alcohol, and substance use, and social condemnation in some societies.[11] A higher number of sexual partners poses a greater risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases, mental health issues, and alcohol/substance use.[11] Adults, however, are generally found to be less at risk of certain pregnancy and labor complications, such as cephalopelvis disproportion, than adolescents, while being at higher risk for other labor complications.[5][7] Physical health effects[edit] Promiscuity in adults has detrimental effects on physical health. As the number of sexual partners a person has in his or her lifetime increases, the higher the risk he or she contracts sexually transmitted diseases.[11] The length of a sexual relationship with a partner, the number of past and present partners, and pre-existing conditions are all variables that affect the development of risks in a person's life.[12] Promiscuous individuals may also be at a higher risk of developing prostate cancer, cervical cancer, and oral cancer as a result of having multiple sexual partners, and combined with other risky acts such as smoking, and substance use, promiscuity can also lead to heart disease.[11] Despite the frequency of HIV/AIDS cases decreasing as medical treatment and education on the matter improve, HIV/AIDS has still been responsible for over 20 million lives in 20 years, greatly affecting the livelihoods of whole communities in developing nations.[13] According to the World Health Organization, over 40 million people are currently infected with HIV/AIDS, and 95% of these cases are in the developing world.[13] Over 340 million treatable sexually transmitted diseases infect people around the world each year, which presents a great risk to individuals as they become more susceptible to HIV and more likely to spread the virus.[13] Studies have also shown that individuals who engage in long-term relationships, as opposed to hypersexual and promiscuous behavior are less likely to fall victim to domestic violence.[11] Mental health effects[edit] While some studies claim that the number of sexual partners is directly correlated with mental health disorders, others find that promiscuity only results in substance use with no effect on depression or anxiety.[14] According to research conducted by Sandhya Ramrakha of the Dunedin School of Medicine, the probability of developing a substance use disorder increased linearly with an increase in the number of sexual partners.[14] This was particularly greater for women, however, there was no correlation with other mental health risks.[14] This contrasts other studies that find there indeed is a correlation between mental health risk and multiple sexual partners.[15]

The 'no-self' is already permanent.. what happens is, often times the belief in a 'separate self' arises, and other times it's not there. With practice, some humans get very consistent at remembering that the 'self' is a belief in something that isn't there, if that occurs. You can't dispel 'the self', because there's no 'you' to dispel, and no 'you' who might dispel it.. There are organisms, that don't have a self, that sometimes have thoughts that they do.. -
Mason Riggle replied to SQAAD's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
^exactly. Nobody acts like they have free will, because there is no such thing as 'acting like you have free will'. No one has any idea what 'acting like they have free will' is like. Consider what it would be like for a whirlpool to discover it wasn't causing itself to swirl around.. what would that change for the whirlpool? Would it suddenly stop swirling? Of course not. There are certain behaviors, of course, that were influenced by 'the belief in having free will', that change when that belief is dispelled. For example, when it's recognized that no one is authoring their own thoughts, it ceases making sense to treat others as if they are personally responsible for being how they are, and so things like 'judgement' also stop making sense.. and so a being who is successful in consistently dispelling their own belief in 'free will', will be more successful at 'not judging'.. not because 'not judging' is a good thing to do.. but because the alternative no longer makes sense. -

@ivankiss for me, recognizing that there's nothing for me to do besides 'be myself', which I'm always already doing effortlessly, is Absolutely liberating. -
Mason Riggle replied to ivankiss's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
@ivankiss I don't discount the relative. I'm here talking to you, relatively speaking, and that's amazing! I'm just aware it's also me talking to myself. Both. But becasue I know they are the same thing, I accept that whatever is happening (including whatever I'm doing or thinking, or working on, or not working on) is what I'm doing exactly how I am doing it because that's what I love to do... either relatively, or Absolutely. -
Mason Riggle replied to ivankiss's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
@ivankiss nothing taken personally, no worries. Apparently I love these conversations too, or I'd be doing something else. I have no say in shit, not becasue of determinism (I'm more incompatiblist, neither determinism, nor indeterminism, give rise to freedom of 'what will'.. in fact, I don't know what the word 'free' means in this context.. free of what?), but because there's no 'me' who might have a say. I am a thing that happens, not a thing that does stuff. I have become directly aware of this. I never suggested spiritual practices aren't useful, relatively speaking, but in Absolute terms, it's just more of what is already happening, which is God waking up, exactly if, and how, and when it will. Idk.. maybe I see something most people don't seem to. -

then why, when it came to making the sex parts, did he put the playground right next door to the sewage plant!? ? -

@ivankiss I'm really not. It's a serious question to contemplate. -

@gettoefl does that ever happen sooner than it does? -
Mason Riggle replied to SQAAD's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
@Dodo there's the opposite perspective of 'I'm doing all of it'.. in which case 'THIS' must be exactly what I want to be doing, otherwise I'd be doing something else. -
Mason Riggle replied to SQAAD's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
@Dodo like I said, nothing wrong with meditation.. just recognize that when you meditate, that's something your organism is doing, and not something 'you' are doing, because there is no 'you'. (yes, there is the organism called @Dodo that does what it does, but there's no 'separate you' who 'does' what your organism does. Who is growing your hair? Well, the organism is growing hair, and it's doing that automatically. Who is thinking your thoughts? Well, the organism is thinking thoughts, and it's doing that automatically. How hard are you trying to 'be yourself' right now? The answer is, not at all.. it's effortless.. you just 'are you'. -
Mason Riggle replied to SQAAD's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
@Dodo nothing wrong with meditation.. just don't be fooled into thinking that meditating is the same as 'doing nothing'. When a tree is growing leaves.. what part of the tree is 'doing that'? How hard is trying to grow leaves? Notice that even without a 'doer' inside the tree somewhere who 'grows leaves'.. leaves grow. Is a tree 'doing nothing', or 'growing leaves'? This is a silly question.. there's no 'doer'.. the tree is just being a tree. Growing leaves is happening, inseparable from the Singular Happening (Reality), which doesn't require a 'doer' to happen. Who is clouding the clouds? Who is flowing the rivers? Well, it's no one.. it's all happening together. Am I 'doing all of that'? Well, sure I am.. the same way I shine the sun and grow my hair... that is to say.. there's no 'me' who's 'doing it'. I am what is happening. -
Mason Riggle replied to charlie cho's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
@charlie cho learn to operate on a spectrum that goes from 0% trust, to 100% trust, and shy away from the extremes. Consider.. how can you even trust your experience? Perhaps this is all a dream? Maybe you're in a simulation? Or a brain in a vat hallucinating reality? You can't say with 100% certainty.. so you base what you trust on experience, which is all you have. If I tell you I my car is in my driveway.. you might be inclined to trust me.. because in your experience.. people have cars, and driveways, and it's plausible that I have one, etc.. but even if you don't know for sure whether I do or not, you don't have to trust me 100% to behave as if I do, and this would be a reasonable way to go about your day. If I tell you I have a dragon in my living room.. you probably won't trust me as much.. because in your experience.. dragons aren't really a thing.. but even if you don't know for sure whether I do or not, you don't have to doubt 100% in order to behave as if I don't. -
Mason Riggle replied to SQAAD's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
@gettoefl meh.. there's a lot that still happens, nothing to be done. Even when God pretends he's not how he is (or gets himself so drunk he forgets).. that's exactly how he is. -
Mason Riggle replied to ivankiss's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
@gettoefl how will he know what he wants next? -
Mason Riggle replied to SQAAD's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
@gettoefl when who realizes it? Some realizer? Of course there's no 'doer'.. and this is why there's nothing to be done. -
Mason Riggle replied to RMQualtrough's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
There is no 'beginning of the universe'... the same way there is no 'center of the surface of a sphere'. Reality is shaped like a strange loop. Experience is all there is. The only evidence there is of an 'experiencer' is the 'experience of an experiencer'. Sam Harris put's it this way (I know, I know, he's a materialist, blah blah blah)... "what you mistake to be the 'thinker of thoughts' is just more thought occurring now". Similarly, what is mistaken as 'the experiencer of the experience' is just more experience. -

Mason Riggle replied to ivankiss's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
@ivankiss I must? Or what? Gods perfect plan goes all wrong? And which part of 'I shine the Sun the same way I grow my hair', sounds like I don't take maximum ownership? -
Mason Riggle replied to ivankiss's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
@gettoefl perfect! I agree. There's nothing left to do, that I'm not already doing, flawlessly. I couldn't get it wrong if I tried. -
Mason Riggle replied to SQAAD's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
Even 'sitting all day meditating' is 'doing something'. ('actively not doing' is a self contradictory phrase, like 'intentionally not intending') You can't 'do nothing'.. trying to 'do nothing' is 'doing something'. To 'do nothing' is to 'not exist'.. or rather 'not be'.
