  1. @Inliytened1 doesn't matter.. Is this forum real, or does it just seem that way? It doesn't matter, you see?
  2. @Carl-Richard what's the difference between something 'actually being material' (substance) and something 'appearing to be material'(appearance)? I'm conflating the two, because there is no difference.
  3. What is a 'materialist' to someone who is not a 'materialist'?
  4. @Inliytened1 who, exactly, must discover that physical reality exists within Consciousness and there is noting independent of Mind? Some physical organism called Adeptus? If you think this, isn't it you who must discover that there is nothing independent of Mind? That there is no independent 'Adeptus' who must discover anything??
  5. @Inliytened1 not exactly 'conflating' the two, but transcending the duality of 'the separation between 'absolute' and 'relative'.
  6. "There is no doubt whatsoever that the universe is the merest illusion." - said the illusion to itself, confidently.
  7. @Carl-Richard is 'seeming real' (immaterial dream of forms) different from being real (material)? If so, how?
  8. @kinesin yes.. and now we'll have the conversation about what 'materialism' is vs. what 'realism' is.
  9. @Inliytened1 doesn't it seem a little 'pot calling the kettle black' to say 'so an so will be stuck in materialism'? Who are you talking about, if not some 'material organism who will be stuck in materialism'.. My point is, if you think someone is stuck in materialism, then you are also stuck in materialism, because you think there is a 'material someone' who is 'stuck in materialism'.
  10. @Inliytened1 but will Adeptus 'REALLY' do anything to confirm his own biases, or does it just seem that way? Who is it that will be stuck in materialism? Some 'material' organism named Adeptus or not?
  11. @Thought Art He doesn't understand that 'real' and 'seeming real' are the same thing. (Deepak perhaps misses this point as well) His example about the rock hitting his head without him being aware of it proving 'reality' is 'real' whether there's anyone 'aware of it' or not is not a sound argument, because he must be aware of 'the experience of a rock hitting his head', otherwise.. did a rock hit his head? How would he know? He must be 'aware of it'. From his perspective, the only one he has, if he doesn't experience the rock hitting his head, then this is no different from 'the rock not hitting his head'. It's 'the experience' that makes it 'real' for him. Consider.. is this forum 'actually real' (not an illusion), or does it just 'seem real' (an illusion)?
  12. @gettoefl everything that occurs is necessary. Perfect even. There is no particular way reality 'should be' other than exactly how it is. To think reality should be other than how it is, is to suffer from the suffering.
  13. @gettoefl the appearance of ego isn't a mistake. It happens. Even when God pretends it isn't what it is, that's what it is.
  14. @Joelvs perhaps consider that you (however you think of yourself, as an individual, or as everything) are being how you are, not 'doing' what you're doing. The same way a tree just IS being a tree, and never tries to do that. You are something that happens, not something that 'causes itself to happen'.
  15. “There was a young man who said though, it seems that I know that I know, but what I would like to see is the I that knows me when I know that I know that I know.” - Alan Watts There is no 'you' who 'observed'. The 'observation', along with every other experience is 'who you are'. 'You' are literally 'everything else that you don't think is you'. It's your hands, your clothes, the sounds you are hearing, this sentence, your memories, the air.. whatever 'your experience is' that's who you are. 'You' can't get beyond your ego, because you are your ego. It helps my organism to stop being so neurotic when it remembers that it functions automatically.. that is to say, my organism IS itself, effortlessly. Consider.. how hard are you trying to 'be yourself' right now? Not at all.. it's effortless. You are understanding my words without trying. You are growing your hair without trying. Thoughts of a reply are arising without trying. The thought can arise - all this is happening, and no one is 'doing it', everything happens all by itself. "What you mistake to be the thinker of thoughts, is just more thought occurring now." - Sam Harris.
  16. He might ask himself, 'where is material reality?' 'how big is material reality?' He won't be able to answer these questions, of course, because there's no frame of reference 'outside of material reality' to compare it to, to say where it is, or how big it is. The question of 'where does Reality exist?' can really make you wonder what it even means for something to 'exist'.. and bring about questions similar to the 'tree falling in the woods' question. For something to exist.. is it required that there's a subject 'for whom it exists'. Would the material world 'exist', if there was no 'consciousness' to be aware that it existed? It's possible, but we can't say for sure. We do know 1 thing for sure, however.. 'it seems like something is occurring' (consciousness). That's the 1 thing we can be absolutely sure about. We can only make assumptions about the [realness of] contents of experience (this could all be a dream, or a simulation, etc).. but we can be certain about experience itself. At the end of the day, every experience, even 'experiencing a material world', is 'the contents of experience'. That the material world exists 'within' consciousness is undeniable.. that consciousness exists within the material world is only an assumption. note: ^ these two perspectives can be transcended, to the realization that there is no difference between 'the material world' and 'consciousness'. The 'separation' between the two is illusion. We might consider.. is this forum we're now communication on 'really material' or does it just 'seem that way'? And what we find is.. it doesn't matter. It doesn't 'make a difference' because we 'can't tell the difference'. 'real' and 'seeming to be real' are the same thing. 'the material world' and 'consciousness' are the same thing.
