@Harlen Kelly so are you a man-made climate change denier??

@Leo Gura everyone is a scientist any time they make some observation, for some idea about that observation, and perform some experiment to test that idea. If I look outside and see raindrops, and think, 'it's raining', and I look again to confirm this.. I have done science. You are a scientist whenever you do science. -

@Gesundheit2 great question. This type of language drives me nuts. Science is a method of investigation. It has it's limits.. but to say 'Science makes claims...' is like saying, 'looking out your window makes so many claims about what's going on outside'. No.. it doesn't. -
and the problem is???

@Harlen Kelly I'm pro 'lets don't overpopulated the planet'

@Stephen any time. -
You literally quoted me and said, 'said the psychopath'.
-
@Recursoinominado this does not mean we simply disregard human life and suffering. It means we prioritize all sentient life, current and future.
-
@Recursoinominado and calling me a psychopath was a personal attack,
-
@Recursoinominado you are strawmanning my words. I did not suggest we shouldn't save the weak in order to save all other sentient beings from suffering. That's your interpretation of what I wrote, and your assumption of what I meant. My point was, and still is.. you don't know the ultimate consequences of any action, so to prescribe some action based on your limited ideas of what the outcome will be, which are often short sighted, misguided, incomplete, unknowable, etc. is foolish.

@Stephen other people exist, and they are as real as you are, because, as you said, they are you... it's all you. Recognize that even if it 'just seems like there are other people with their own perspectives etc', this is no different than there actually being other people with their own perspectives, etc.. Consider, is this conversation right now 'real' or 'just in your head'? Do you see how it doesn't matter which one it is?? It's as real as it's ever gonna get. -

my two cents: "Artificial Intelligence" is a gross misnomer. What people are actually interested in is artificial (man-made) self-awareness or artificial ego. Is it possible to create a system that is aware of what it is? -
@Recursoinominado you don't know what the ultimate consequences of 'me killing myself' would be, so you have no room to suggest that I 'should'. Perhaps my killing myself will lead to intense suffering for all sentient beings.. you don't know. That's my point.
-
@Recursoinominado you clearly don't understand my argument.
-
@Recursoinominado truth doesn't care about the personality of who speaks it. But nice ad hom.
-
@Recursoinominado GTFO with your prescriptive morality. Shoulds and Shouldnt's are subjective silliness.
-
What also indicates a lack of ego development is placing 'humans alive today' at the top of the 'should survive' hierarchy, and losing sight of the suffering of all sentient beings, present and future. By protecting the weakest members of 'the collective' we are creating a weaker 'collective'. By prioritizing human survival (we tend only to prioritize the survival of currently living humans, and don't care much about future generations), we are causing unmeasurable suffering among non-humans, and future humans that goes largely un-considered at best, or is ignored completely. People who support a vaccine mandate have no clue what the ultimate consequences of such an action will be, and then proudly take some moral high ground which doesn't really exist..

It's recognized by who? Perhaps it's more like, the imaginary separation between that which is self, and that which isn't self disappears, or ceases to be. Maybe 'Enlightenment' occurs when the Universe remembers what it is (experiences non-duality), and stops pretending it's separate from itself (duality). You, the one on this so-called spiritual path to freedom, are the whole spiritual path.. not something separate from the path which is 'on the path'. Your existence.. your 'sense of self' is 'self evident'.. you exist, haven't you noticed?. You're just confused about what you are. That's not a bad thing. It's just how it is, because that's the only way for 'being' to 'be'. Everything/Nothing seeming like Something by pretending it's not what it is. -
Mason Riggle replied to roopepa's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
It's a little paradoxical, but not really. 'ego' is just imaginary separation.. it's what happens when the Universe sprouts humans that have thoughts like, 'I am separate from that which is not me. There's a me who does things.'. But sometimes humans discover that these are just more thoughts occurring, and they recognize that they are not 'doing' even their own thoughts. They realize that what they mistook to be 'the thinker of thoughts' is just more thoughts. When these types of thoughts (imaginary separation, a doer separate from 'what's happening') cease, what is left is simply 'being' with no one 'doing' it. Everything just 'going along'. "Any attempt to change what is occurring, is just more what is already occurring." - Me There's only 1 path, and you're already on it, and any step you take to deviate from the path, is just more 'you being on the path'. To be conscious of this, is to surrender to God. -

Tarot is bunk.. but Cootie Catchers are legit. -
Mason Riggle replied to Someone here's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
Concepts. 'Nothing' and 'Everything' are irrational (illogical) concepts like 'beginning' and 'end'. They are equally 'undefined' (undefinable). Existence is self evident. There 'seems' to 'be' Something... and 'seeming to be' and 'being' are no different. -
Mason Riggle replied to PepperBlossoms's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
@PepperBlossoms We do already have the one.. our perspective is what it is, until it's something else. What we believe about reality is not up to us. My beliefs will change automatically when presented with sufficient reasons to change them, and I don't decide what qualifies as 'sufficient reasons'. I never try to change my mind.. my mind changes itself.. is changing. It's 'effortless'. -
Mason Riggle replied to PepperBlossoms's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
Everything is exactly as it seems, until it seems otherwise, at which point, everything is still exactly how it seems. -
Mason Riggle replied to PepperBlossoms's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
@PepperBlossoms recognize that if you can't tell the difference between real and imaginary, and you can't, then there is effectively no difference... it doesn't matter to you which it is. Consider: Is this conversation we're having right now real, or does it just seem real? What would be the difference? Is there a difference between 'seeming real' and 'being real'? Either there REALLY IS no difference, or it SEEMS like there's no difference, but once again, it doesn't matter which it is. -
