Based on the human genome they say 80 percent of our female ancestors had kids and passed on their genes, while 30 percent of our male ancestors had kids and passed on their genes. This is likely because throughout history men died much more often as they were expected to do dangerous tasks like hunt, and fight. Even today they are the significant majority of things like workplace deaths and battle deaths, because they are expected to do it due to physical strength. Just being weaker isn't always a disadvantage.

In this case it seems she was just messing with you, if they were afraid they wouldn't say anything, also they wouldn't be afraid in a group. I have noticed this as well however. I assume it's because women watch true crime all the time and believe false / exaggerated statistics about the chances of being raped or assaulted which are promoted. This generates in them a unrealistic level of fear. I'm wondering if it's a biological thing too, I have heard some women say taking testosterone reduced their emotions including fear.
