You can never not be. As an experiment, right now, try, really try, not to be. Even in trying not to be, you still are. This is undeniable verification that "you are" or 'I.. Am". You do not have to try to Be,because You already and always are. So,if you inquire "what is This, that I am" (without referring to the mind or thoughts),what are you? Timeless, boundless, total, existence. Thus, I Am the undeniable, unbound, all encompassing, totality of existence. I Am.. what IS That, I Am. -

Living is Being (i.e Existing). Ask yourself 'Am I being, (i.e., existing) in this moment right now?" Be aware of being (existing), in this moment right now. Can you Be or Exist, anywhere else other than in this moment. Now /this moment is not a "thing" that can be caught or grasped by thinking or thought". The "I" of the mind or "I" mental concept (ego) being a thought, can never get to or be in this moment because it is, (as with all thought), bound to time. To Be in this moment, the mental "I" concept drops away. It disappears and it is found that this moment is timeless. It is also found that "I" (true I or true Self),am also timeless. In essence, you are the ever existing, ever living timeless moment. Trying, (i.e. grasping), to be in the moment is what keeps it elusive. Let your thoughts, the world, everything, go, And Be Aware of Being/Existing. -

What is that by which it is known that I do or I do not know? For that to be known, it has to be beyond both knowing and not knowing. -

You are, the meaning you are searching for. The desire for meaning results in the act ,and/or action, of seeking for meaning. Turn your attention back to that which is aware of the act/action of seeking meaning. In the recognition that, "I Am That which is aware",of the act and/or action of seeking meaning, the desire and the act of seeking meaning end. The recognition that I Am That, is the recognition that "I Am The Infinite All, That Is." Therefore, "I Am the meaning, and the end, of the desire and action of seeking meaning. ?️ -

Look to your own experience. See: "I am conscious of activity"(brain or mind) "Being conscious of this activity, I am conscious of my activity: "Being conscious of my activity,I am conscious of myself" "Being conscious of myself,I am conscious of my thought of myself" "Being conscious of my thought of myself, I am just a thought" "If I am just a thought, then I am empty... (as all thoughts are empty of self-ness or self-hood.) Being empty, there is no self,no activity,no this,no that,no here,no there,no being,no non being,no other. Pure-Empty-Aware. -

What's next? You're not seeing the gift, or better yet, the gift of Grace, of "being too exhausted to think of what comes next". The "gift" , is the surrendering , of wanting or needing to know what comes next. You're being given the gift of simply Being. Living, abiding, here.... in the timeless awareness of this moment. Not thinking of a future "what's next",or a past "what was". THIS "nothing" presence, that is always and ever present here .. now... IS the"nothing" that is"everything". This "no-thing" that is also "every-thing"... is You. Looking for "what's next",is leaving the Reality of your true nature. Haven't you had enough of looking for what's next? "Blown away and exhausted from this realization to even try to think of what comes next" ... is the best thing that could have happened. That "thing", is the exhaustion, and the subsequent Surrendering to,the Truth and Reality of what IS. -

In the pondering of a concept, You are the pondering ,and that which is pondered. From where or from what, is that thing which is being pondered, conceived or "born"? That which conceives or forms a concept, idea or thought, becomes or takes the form of the thing/object/form, conceived. That which ponders,is and isn't (simultaneous paradox) the form/concept/thing pondered. In other words, Self pondering Self,Reality pondering Reality,God pondering God etc, etc. -

You were not born,You will not die.You were never young nor can You ever be old. You, have always been. Even before time. The time bound body can be young or old, but You, are not of time. Boundless, imperishable and without end,You are. -

Thought does not exist. Thought,or thoughts, are an illusory appearance that comes and go's. The thought "I" or" I-thought" that precedes all other thoughts, also does not exist and is an illusory appearance that comes and go's. No thoughts,no controller,no owner, exists. All but a dream. Wake up and realize this seemingly existent dream, is just a dream, appearing to have existence. What exists, what IS, that which has no shape or form, and never comes and go's,always, always IS. And ,since it always IS, it is always and immediately here... Now. These words are only an appearance, appearing in the dream, and do not exist -

There is only one consciousness and no such thing as "human" consciousness. "God" is conscious, formless, and his own creation of form. Since form is his creation, and is created out of his formlessness,he is both form and formless simultaneously. Thus,in being both formless and form,he is not separate. "God" can never be separate from his creation. The creator and the creation are one. The conscious creator, who's very nature is formlessness,is never bound by his creation of form. And therefore remains ever unaffected by it's destruction or dissolution. God is formless consciousness. "human being" is the manifested or created form, created out of formless consciousness or "God". Formless consciousness is the reality. Human being is the imagined creation. The reality (God,consciousness) is eternal, the manifested creation is temporary and will dissolve. Formless consciousness is the reality prior to the manifestation, and remains the reality after it's dissolution or "death". Formless consciousness is "human" consciousness,so there is no "becoming" formless consciousness. Timelessly, It is, and always was, formless consciousness. I Am That. "You" are That. All is That. THAT, IS what IS. -

A mini-universe. Microcosm. Yogi's of the distant past knew secrets of the universe through deep states of meditation, that scientists today are still discovering. Samyama, as Patanjali explains in the Yoga Sutra's, represents the last three steps of his eight-fold path put together: dharana (concentration), dhyana (meditation), samadhi (union). In samyama you become the object of your concentration. The yogi becomes the atom and therefore knows everything about it. He becomes the universe, or he becomes the light. -

The Love of God (i.e.Grace) can and does show "Joe", that he doesn't exist , and that "I, (God alone), Am" the sole reality". "Joe" is an imagination, thinking he is an individual person, capable of becoming something beyond himself. 'Joe' doesn't know he doesn't exist, and thoroughly believes,(and persists) in the imagination/dreaming of himself as being real. "Joe" revolves around in his own, compartmentalized little world of delusion, thinking he is the creator, the doer, and the chooser of his own will. If 'Joe" wakes up one day to the suffering he is causing himself, through his own self-deluded desires, choices and actions,he will seek another way, beyond his current "self." But "Joe's" idea of becoming something "better" or "other than" himself, still involves himself. "Joe", will still be Joe's idea (i.e.,imagination) of himself. "Joe" just becomes (to himself) a "more improved" ,yet again, imagined, version of himself. "Joe" can never get out of "Joe" because "Joe" will always be looking for what he thinks is good for himself. "Joe", doesn't know he isn't this person called "Joe". If Grace or the Love of God "shows up","Joe" will be shown to have always been an imagination. A dream, that never truly existed. The dissolution of 'Joe", is the "new beginning" or "re-birth", to what has always been.To ones "original face" in Zen. Or, as Jesus said: "Even before Abraham.."I Am" -

Go here , (excellent PDF by Sri Sadhu Om), and read what self inquiry is really meant to be in accordance with Ramana's teaching. It does away with many mis-conceptions regarding self inquiry and it's practice. Real self inquiry is Self-Attention,which means keeping the attention on the already inherent, unlearned, natural knowledge/knowing "I AM". It's to Be aware of Being i.e.,Be aware of your own primordial existence (amness). Minus objective thoughts (i.e.,mind), body, breath and the 5 senses(tasting, feeling, smelling, hearing, seeing). The already abiding knowledge "I AM" ,that is prior to any words, thoughts or feeling. The silent, empty background of awareness. This silent, thoughtless "I Am", is pure consciousness,Pure Being, devoid of objectness or self- individual identification. Attending to this "awareness of pure existence" is what Nisargdatta Maharaj referred to as "abiding in the knowledge/knowing (i.e.,the awareness) "I Am" , to the exclusion of all else. This is proper self inquiry or Self-attention. Who or What am I?,is a question to bring one directly to the 'emptiness" of "self" or the "small I-ego" also known as the "I-thought". Abiding in that "emptiness" of "no individual self" or "I"-thought, is an effortless relaxing of attention, and a resting (i.e.,abiding),in Pure Being. "Emptiness" or "empty" means, free of the conditioned attachment to a conflicting, dualistic and presupposed concept of a non-existent, personal identity (ego). The link above should clear up a lot of questions regarding Ramana's self inquiry. The guide also clears up the differences in his more direct teaching vs. Vedantic self inquiry. Both approaches are valid, but Raman's is more direct in avoiding a lot of the "neti, neti(not this, not this)" process involved in traditional Vedantic inquiry. Note that for self inquiry, or any contemplative technique or exercise,a quiet-silent mind is conducive and the majority opinion of those experienced with such. An agitated, busy mind is highly counterproductive to self inquiry. This is where meditation and/or pranayama as a means to quiet the inner workings/activity of the mind are invaluable. The gate-less gate to God, is in our own inner silence and stillness. -

The Buddha already tried self mortification through extreme ascetic disciplines to no avail. The problem is, what is not 'you" is believing itself to be a physical (body-mind) "thing" as an identity. This "me" or "I" body-mind that "I" thought, or assumed as being myself, may not be what I am. So, if I'm not body, mind, thought, belief or identity, what am I? Thus, the inward search or seeking for the truth begins. Have the humility to know, that you alone,of your own volition, cannot awaken to truth. How can you awaken to what you don't yet know? Any pre-concieved beliefs or ideas (yours or others), of what "I am" or truth is, will unnecessarily hinder it's possibility of happening. Not knowing, opens the door for the possibility of it revealing itself. This "Grace" is a very real "thing",and not some lofty religious concept. Grace is the movement of the divine's Love in the revealing of itself, and not something "you" do of your own volition. Humility is vulnerability, and that vulnerability allows space for that movement to happen. Ego thinks it has something to do with all or any of this, when it has no control whatsoever. It also assumes it awakens. Ego doesn't die or awaken. It's transcended and shown to be a false illusion that never was. -

Do you have any practices going? You've given up outer attachments, but truth is found nowhere else but within.
